Hellow y'all, as a Kenyan who loves Fella, I'll just let you know how much: I've got every single album Fela ever made! At least the ones ever put on CD! Now that's love man.
Wow. I have being waiting for someone to sing a song to these our bleached skin girls not knowing Baba 70 had already said it all. Where are they? we need them here to come feeling this quote and those our boys who are bleaching too. Respect to Fella.
Impresionate! O cara é demais! Creio que os negros tem muitos motivos para se orgulharem, mas a sonoridade e acidez política de Fela Kuti é de profundidade irreparável. Música e questões sociais nunca casaram tão bem. Muito Bom! This guy is really good!
James Brown and Fela actually met (watch Fela's documentary). Fela spent time in the USA with African Americans in the late 60's early 70's. They influenced each other I'm sure. It's all African music whether its coming from the US or Africa.
@labalaba9 I'm a greek woman.Idon't feel black or white ,in our country many many races were mixed during the centuries. So I can tell you this brothers and sisters:black is REALLY beautiful.Personally my favorite kind of beauty.LOVE AFRICA and hope to visit it all
i am white. love to all races.... no on is #1. anyone who thinks so is lowest of the lows. & love this beautiful music.. no one needs to change their looks, just their attitudes
THANK YOU!!! Let's just appreciate the music...poetically comparing skin bleaching to a sickness under the name "yellow fever"? The brotha's a genius. --------------- and reflect.
LABALABA 9 just educated me to what the title for this song is representing! from her comment ... can i just state that dark complections are beautiful im dark an all it takes is that coco butter and you'll recognise that shining young fellow! lol dunknw
black people actually have the best skin because, when they have a mark or a bruise it blends in and its hard to tell, they have glowing skin, its much harder to tell a black person age, if a black man is 60 you may think he is 40, but with white people they age faster due to geological climate, when a white person has a bruise the mark appears red all over the face, they have it worse, because the marks appear and stand out more noticeble, I thank god everyday for the skin I have
@MsWagt if you say so....i still call it the michael jackson syndrome as it has been a part of black american culture since at least the days of the black creoles of louisiana. that's not a diss on MJJ its a fact of being black in america.... his own sister said it was the case....
Your face go yellow,ur eye go yellow, you be man or woman? you go yellow pass yellow, you go catch mustache for face, your yansh go black like coal !! hahaha .... this song cracks me up ! peace n love from Washington DC .
when fela sings about "bleaching",he talks about our shrewd politicians who try to convert black to white by all means necessary; he's indirectly referring to the pretentious nature of our leaders, i don't think he is referring to bleaching literarilly.
Vybz Cartel and Sammy Sosa should have heard this song before they made that horrible choice!! Know thyself people. You can't run away from yourself!!! I hope god can help them seriously because I don't even know what can help them besides him. 0_0!!
@ladysay3 reminds me of a saying i picked up 30 years ago man is a fool, when its hot he wants it cool, when its cold he wants it hot, he always wants something he hasnt got. in fact i know that is not exactly true. he has been conditioned to be that way. 400 years of conditioning calls into question who has done the conditioning. white folk have always tanned but black folk have not always bleached.
Kululu00. Nigerian men were among the first to bleach their skin, long time before the congolese got into it. Why do u think Fela was already singing about it in the 70s? Anyway, I basically agree with your opinion on the matter. It is shameful and incomprehensible.
@truthadvance whose missing the point?? that is what i think i said.. but black people do have a mind of their own. we make choices even through conditoning... in this song fela isnt talking specifically about europeans but about the behaviors of black africans, nigerians specifically.... white folk aren't the once's bleaching... its black people and black people have minds that are capable of free thought like anyone else. we buy into bullshit! and make that bullshit our reality.
@labalaba9 Why do you blame capitalism for skin bleaching? As an Ibo, I would think it would come from the gulf between Nigerian youth and their culture.
@labalaba9 I wouldn't blame it on capitalism. When the imperial powers invaded our africa, the closer you were to white, in terms of dressing, speaking, skin color, the better you were. It's a shame that we became brain washed/white washed. We have adopted all the european ideals, while they disregard all ours. It hurts me when I hears someone make fun of another for being "too black."
For someone claiming to be constructive you don't post anything constructive. first of all nothing you're posting has anything to do with this song. and you're just perpetuating more separatism, I personally believe and want Obama to be the next US pres. but when he takes office it doesn't mean WE'RE taking over! what are you implying??
