    I have three red heads coming from a breeder in Arizona, but while I was at my main aquarium store they had some on hand and on special, buy two get the third one free. My water parameters are about the same as yours so hopefully I’ll have good success. They’re around 2” and haven’t colored up yet but they are still a neat fish to watch. You turned me on to these guys so thank you very much:) I’m also getting three Electric Blue Acara:) I’ll be gluing my Anubias plants to some spider wood and granite caves so they can either lay eggs if that ever happens or just a safe place to hang out. Thanks again! I enjoy watching your videos. Take care and God bless.

    Awesome coverage, thanks! Looking at a group for my 55gal with a wetdry. Is the debris a function of the filtration or the fish's feeding habits? What sand are you using? How deep should the sand be? How would they do with angelfish?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  Před 6 lety

      It's a function of both. Sponge filters doing a bad job of mechanical filtration and geos constantly sifting substrate, You will be in good shape with your set-up. I have my sand about an inch deep (when it's not being completed moved around by the fish). : -) If the geos are breeding I'm not sure how they will be with angels. If they aren't breeding I think they would leave them alone.

      This is going to be such a cool tank! They are both great fish. I have found the tapajos to be a little more aggressive, but not overly so. I personally like the surinamensis a little more once full grown, but both a great! The tapajos will stay a little smaller too.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics

      I generally keep them between 78-80 degrees. In a large tank the corys might be ok, but Tapajos do like their bottom area. The rainbow shark could be a problem when the shark gets to full size. It might work, but you will have to see how they do.

    I've been researching quite a bit on how I wanted to stock my new (to me) 55 gallon tank, I settled on geophagus, I saw a tank online with tapajos and lemon tetra, well while I was at a chain pet store I saw some serpae tetra and on an impulse bought them thinking they would look good with the tapajos. Come to find out the sepae's are apparently different than the lemon tetra and have a bit of a reputation as fin nippers...that being said, should I still introduce the young geo's to the tank with the serpae already there and wait? Or is there too much of a risk to the young geo's? The tetras look pretty young as well, there are currently 9 serpae in my 55 gallon with a couple plants.

      I don't think the lemon tetras will be an issue. I've had geos in with corys before without issues, but it was usually only one geo, so no breeding was happening. Not sure how they will react if they start protecting eggs and fry - they could get rough with them?

      Depends on your goals. If I just wanted something cool to look at in a community tank I would only get one. If you wanted to get a group, that is certainly doable, but the larger the tank the better. I have four in the 55 gallon, but I don't think that is ideal. If you go the community route, if they start to breed they will push all the other fish to the corners of the tank.

I think given the tank size now, the fact that all my fish are juveniles and after watching lots of videos I'm gonna go for a Gold Saum instead though. Upgrading tank down the line will be no issue atall if its needed, I know that for sure so I think it should work out nicely, hope I am correct. Depends on how many you keep. A group would do best in a 75 gallon or larger. One could be ok in a 40 breeder. A lof of the medium-s-zed tetras or rasboras, severums, smaller South American cichlids like nanoluteus, sajica, multispinosa, could all work.
