  • Buying a BMW is a bit hectic, especially if you have been told that all of them are unreliable and will break the bank.But, that is further from the truth than you might think. BMW's can indeed last more than 300k miles if you grab one of these models.
    BMW's are actually pretty reliable. All you have to do is take care of them.
    Thank you for taking your time and watching.

    I'd say you could go with pretty much anything from the late 80s to mid 90s. The golden era, modern enough, high on luxury, but still not too complex, and still made from "more oldschool" and sturdy materials. I couldnt name a single engine/modell in the lineup back then what was bad. M30, M50, M52, M60, M70, heck even the M51 diesel was great. That means e30, e31, e32, e34, e36, and early e38 and e39. Great cars, i had most of them in the last few years, except the v12, and i just cant complain. I still have my m60 40i, 350k on the clock, and its still fine. I wouldnt go though with any newer cars, vanos issues, chain guide issues, transmission issues, its just too expensive in the long run. My e34 for example was a winter car, drove it for 2 years, WITHOUT maintenance, and then sold it, it was still fine. My old e38 (2.8 m52) i had for 3 years, no problems there, one waterpump was replaced and thats all, rest is normal maintenance. The e38 i have now, (the m60), i have for 5 years now, and i havent touched the engine yet, only maintenance (oil changes and so on). I also had e36, m50 engine, for 3-4 years, nothing went wrong besides a water pump, and that was like $30. E32 with the old inline 6, massive engine, just maintain it, adjust the valves every now and then, and it goes forever. I'd never go with a newer car, lets say 2000 and upwards, including the e46. It just has a lot of problems, maybe the engine is still good, but the subframe issues, and general rust problems overshadow that. Older are just better in every way. Yes, its important to buy one it the first place wat was taken care of, these are about 30 year old cars, so if its in bad shape it doesnt matter how good it could be.

    Hey guys, im looking to buy my first car and i want it to be a BMW. I have found a 2008 bmw 316i ( e90 i believe, as its sedan?). its got 116.000 Km on it and has a price of about 10.800 euros.
    I dont want to go over 1600-1800cc as the yearly "traffic fees"(?) are way higher after that.
    its from a dealer shop which was recommended to me by a BMW dealership. Black color with Beige interior and sunroof. I'm in love with it, the only thing i dont know is if its reliable / if it would need alot of fixing. any idea?
    I've also been looking at a 2013 bmw 114i with 120.000 Km on it with about the same price. I dont know which one is more reliable as a first car to not have a lot of fixing cost after buying it...
    Both have a service book ofcourse.
    Thanks in Advance!

      go to BMW Doc, dean, for more info. The last great 6 was the N52. 3.0L. From 2006 through 2013 this engine and transmission combos were used in Z4's, 1-series, 2-series, 3-series, 4-series and 5-series cars. 3, 4 and 5-series went 4 cylinder turbo in 2012. Stay away from anything with the DCT automatic, it's an $8K grenade waiting to go off. The GM 6L45r automatic is a fine unit if serviced every 50-60k miles. It is rated for 450 NM or 331 ftlbs. That's 50% more capacity than the non-turbo N52 puts out. Change the oil, change the oil, change the oil. Don't do the factory 12,000 mile change, that's what clogs the vanos. 2012, 128i, E88, N52 second owner. Previous BMW convertible was a 1996, 328iC, E36.

      @AutoMotivate  Před 3 lety +2

      I have yet to do extensive research on the 6 series, but from what I can fathers it’s not the most reliable BMW.
      If you are wanting a dependable and in car that should be amongst the more reliable models for that year, I would look into the 3 series with the I6.
      Or, the Turbo I6 335i from 07 and a manual gearbox.
      The 07 model had stronger internals compared to the later years.
