When Leia says "I have always known" everyone reacts like when she first saw him she was like "oh cool, my brother."
But I have always thought it was more like, she met him and felt a familiarity, she knew she had some kind of connection to him. But I dont think she knew he was her brother. She just knew she felt a connection with him early on.

the reason everyone reacts that way is because the way she says it... there is better phrasing that could have been used there, or could have put more dialog to clarify, without clarification for what she meant everyone remembers the scene they kissed and that is where their mind goes with that line whether meant that way or not.

In that scene, something very subtle was done (I hope it was intentional). Luke's tunic, up until this point, was always completely black, and we didn't know if he was going to turn to the dark side. The question of whether he would turn or not was the entire build-up of this movie, including the film's previews which showed Luke and Vader in the elevator together. By the time Luke is with a dying Vader in the hanger, the tunic is now open, revealing the white underside. If it wasn't intentional, it certainly sent the subliminal message that Luke would not turn.

It also was a life support system keeping him alive. However, when Darth Sidious (Emperor) designed his life sustaining suit, he made sure to include some quirks; it was extremely susceptible to force lightning. Also, there was a reimagining of the Obi-Wan vs. Vader fight from the first movie called SC 38, and it makes the fight look more modern while keeping the feel of the original movie intact, very fun to watch, and perfectly done with how it fits into the story.

It also ruins them since you know who makes it out alive. Which means that the rest doesn't, one can surmise even during The Phantom Menace that something like Order 66 must eventually happen. How else could the OT be the way they are? So it spoils the prequels big time. Episode order makes the fall of Sheev and the redemption of Anakin an even greater payoff. With Rogue One in the middle it becomes a 7-movie long saga with the same plotting villain in the background, finally being overthrown in this one. And you remain clueless all the way through about who survives and who doesn't.

Once you find out Vader is Anakin, then you watch the prequels as a kind of "flashback" before going to 6 to see Anakin's redemption.

17:16 The thing with the release order being "out of order" is that it's actually a brilliant way to let the audience experience what was effectively the aftermath of the rise of the Empire, and all the erasure or rewriting of history and records that presumably went along with that event. By starting the audience at movie IV, we go in ignorant of what has transpired previously, and-like Luke-we have to rely on believing what we're told. That's why the Vader=father and Leia=sister twists work so well, because we're in the dark just as much as Luke is. If the movies were aired in chronological order, chances are that those surprises would not have been surprises at all.

They didn’t know that it was sibling love and connection, and in their shoes I would probably also guess that it was a different kind of love.
