The VERY Strange Zombieland Series You Never Saw
Vložit

- When the original Zombieland first debuted it was an instant classic. Deep in the height of the zombie craze, Zombieland was a smart, witty, and hilarious story of found family surviving during a Zombie Apocalypse. It was so successful that Amazon attempted to remake the movie as a TV Series. Though without the original Zombieland cast, and a subpar script, it didn't make it past the pilot stage. But what made this Zombieland TV Show SO terrible?

There was a show?!
I guess there was
No wonder many people forgot about it
My thoughts as well.
Right? Literally had no idea
My thoughts exactly.
I had 0 idea there was a show lol
The fact i never even knew there was an attempt at a show kinda says it all. 😂
Right bc if YOU knew about it.. it would have been a hit right?
@acehole4788 Speaking as the general audience it could've helped if it was advertised more, maybe? Could've gotten more feedback. Seems a lot of people missed this one. So short answer, well yea. Thats how things work.
Well it was just a pilot, it’s more like at American IT Crowd remake
I remember watching this and thinking “You idiots, you’ve captured their stunt doubles!”
Yeah the pilot feels like a weird snl parody. I don’t know why they recast the characters instead of creating new ones. I legit have not thought about the pilot in eleven years lol
I’m a massive fan of the original I didn’t know this show existed until right now, so that’s probably an indication.
Same here!
It's more that I don't think it was marketed properly either. It wasn't that bad but I didn't know it existed until like 2016 or so
no literally
You’re not wrong. They should’ve had new characters. Could’ve made an episodes where they meet the original cast along their adventures an epilogue or individually like prequel to the movies. So much potential wasted
It was originally supposed to be a series, so there was never an intent to have other characters. Zland was strictly about THOSE characters.
And it would have made the sequel better in the end because that is when they could have had the casts meet.
@@livinginreality6829 I understand that. The fact that movie took off like it did they should’ve known better made than to use the Walmart versions of those same characters. No offense to those actors but they couldn’t possibly compare to harrelson, eisenberg, stone or Breslin. Imo the creators dropped the ball
At that point just make a new szombie show completely, what’s the point? It’s not like zombies are original to this universe
@@Angel-Otk then it wouldn’t be zombie land
*Had no idea this was even an idea*
On paper, a Zombieland TV series sounds awesome, but its execution left a lot to be desired. As you said, they should have had new characters rather than the ones from the movies.
Zombieland actually started out as a series pitch. That's why the film has a Zombie Kill Of The Week in it. Each episode was going to have one.
@@jun6174 We know, they say that in the video
Even the vehicle got a downgrade from a Cadillac to a GMC lol
I never really wibed with the movie, precisely because everything about the rules and whatever else, always felt like it would work better in a serialised TV-show. So this makes the whole thing make sense now.
Also, sad that streaming services don't do the concept pilot thing for new shows. They should do that, instead of pumping out full seasons and then cancelling shows before they have the time to build a fanbase.
oooo do an episode on the Limitless TV show
i really liked it and i think it did the movie justice in its own way
Thank goodness I missed this show.
Watched Double Tap last week for the first time, and absolutely loved it. Didn't know it received a tepid response, much less they tried to turn it into a series
Yes indeed, I mean it’s not as great as the first but it’s not that far.
I thought it was terrible and an insult to the first
@@Vivi_9 you’re wrong so wrong
@@slystone4892 I wish I was, I love the first movie and have watched it so many times, the second one is a cash grab that should never have been made
@@slystone4892 I wish I was, the first movie is a classic I've watched multiple times, the second one is boring and lame, should never have been made
Even double tap wasn't that good, a few funny bits but overall not as much fun as the first one. Sometimes it's just really hard to make a sequel to a good movie.
wait there was a posible show of this ?? never even heard of this.
The problem with tv adaptations of most properties (aside from the writing becoming generic schlock) is that the cast becomes "generic above average looks person" cast in the roles where you were expecting to see your favorite actor.
Surprisingly, people in Hollywood movies typically have pretty distinct looks and aren't always "good looking" and aside from those distinct features they typically have very distinct mannerisms.
When you cast "generic above average looking person" in those distinct roles you lose all of the charm and the majority of the talent as well. Better to just create a separate story with new characters then try to convince people these cardboard cutouts are the actors they're familiar with.
Had no clue a show was even pitched, let alone piloted.
As someone who saw both films, I didnt even know there was a series so they didnt even advertise it to the people who already knew about it
Didn’t know this was a thing.
Pretty interesting and original topic ! Keep it up
Great video.
For a "Zombieland" show to work, they need to do what "What We Do In The Shadows" did: focus on a different group of entertaining characters played by charismatic performers, with the occasional cameo from the original cast.
downloaded the premiere day of release, was very sad they never made another. Still have it saved to my hard drive to this day
I would actually love to see you do a video about Castle Rock.
I love the two movies, to me they are great obviously the first one is the best but the second one it’s not far from the first. Love them wholeheartedly.
Maiara Walsh seems to have had bad luck with remakes. She also starred in the monstrosity that we all make sure to forget deliberately: mean girls 2 😭
What about PAW Patrol and Doctor Who?
They DEFINITELY should have just made new characters. What We Do in The Shadows was a film converted into a show. New characters are the difference between a failed pilot and a 5 season show with no sign of stopping!
Funny enough, Zombieland was originally pitched as a show. Each episode would sponsor a "rule" to survival. Then, the movie was made at it was so good, that when they finally got the show the characters were so iconic they couldn't make it work. So, they made the sequel.
They really needed to make a new show in the same world using new characters. Well, and they needed a better budget than Amazon could provide. At least at the level of walking dead.
i still can't believe it was a decade ago
At this point in time
I remember seeing about this coming out ages ago, but I never got to see it and I’m pretty sure it got scrubbed from Amazon.
The pilot was rough but likeable in a way that felt like it would find it's footing as the season went on. The casting wasn't bad but the switch between the two was a huge leap that most couldn't hack. Too bad, we need more zombie TV.
Also it´s an incredibly stupid idea to NOT make the whole character build up in the series. This does not work at all, because they pick up where the movie ended, tell us some backstory to characters that were established in the movie and ALL THAT with different Actors. IF they would have REBOOTED it into a series and would have shown us how they met, the audience could have connected with the new actors. Of course just MAYBE, because it´s also the execution that matters.
The wildest part? If you make new, interesting and fun characters that are just an extension of the world, you could tell a NEW story AND include new chars in the movie sequel in a cool way that would probably feel really rewarding if you were a fan. The writer comment about "IdK WhY Y'AlL diDn'T LiKe iT" is proof that hollywood is full of walking bricks. He has no idea what was good about the first or how to do anything useful with it and is left thinking this is due to angry fans instead of the fact that they produced a BAD show that made the IP worse.
Doesn’t help that the second movie was mediocre and forgettable as hell
New characters with new states, and new rules. Keep all the weekly stuff
Didnt know this was a thing
Hi Tyler, any updates on the movie? Last update was June 2023
What movie
Zombieland was obviously planned to be a show, and I was confused why there was never a show based on it. It would've been so fun to see a comedy about people surviving a zombie apocolypse!
I remember reading about this….however, I didn’t know it ever got made. 😅
I never knew that show existed makes me kinda wanna watch it
There was a show? This is the first time hearing about it, and I would have hated it too.
There was no way that a Zombieland show without the original cast in their respective roles was going to be anywhere near as good. Their personalities, charisma, and chemistry together just weren't going to be duplicated effectively.
I remember that I saw it but if it weren't for your video, I would never have remembered that I wasted my time watching that pilot...
I remember this was being announced then it shortly got cancelled it was originally on Amazon
I remember watching this on CZcams back in the day!
7:28 "Why did you hate us changing every thing that made the movie good" How is that hard to understand?
well, the good news is we're on track for a zombieland three in just five short years
I thought you meant the series of movies, I was so confused 😂
You just blew my mind
This could've worked if they had went with a different cast of characters and built that instead of hoping to successfully flip the whole cast. If three series went well, it could've dovetailed neatly into a sequel like Double-tap including the original cast and maybe have the show cast pop up toward the climax to help out or something.
To me, you very often can’t explain why something. Usually the answer is just, they didn’t do a good job with it so nobody liked it. And when you move into a comedy, the answer is nearly always just that it’s not funny.
I swear I NEVER knew this was a thing
The first Zombieland was lightning in a bottle. I don't think you'll ever get a comedy zombie movie that good again, it would have to be really well written and cast. There are tons of comedy zombie movies on streaming, but they are so bad. I saw a VHS home movie of 2 preteens LARPing Resident Evil on streaming service, like whatttt, they will put anything on there.
That opening scene looks pretty good to be fair :p
Good no gambling ads
I'm not a huge zombieland fan, and I don't like zombies, and I think the show wouldn't pick up if they at least tried something else like Writing new characters.
I didnt even know Double Tap existed and i loved the original one.
The zombieland VR game is pretty solid
I found out about this because I was Wikipedia page diving into the Cory In The House cast and read Maiara Walsh’s page and now I’m here 😅
I loved the first movie as a teen and still think both are solid...never heard of the pilot tho
The casting is obviously atrocious.
Woody Harrelson changed the role, so they'd have to undo those changes to go back to Kirk Ward.
lol, like many here, I had no clue there was a show…
This show being more Zombieland for the fans to enjoy is like season 4 of Community being more Community, but maybe even less so.
As a fan of zombie films, I enjoyed Zombieland. As far as zombie comedies go, it's not nearly as good as Shaun of the Dead or Return of the Living Dead, but it was a well written and well acted out film. I think its biggest drawback was that overly kinetic, in your face, action style that American comedies can be guilty of, which I tend to find a bit obnoxious. But that said, despite that fact, it's still a very enjoyable movie, and I enjoyed the sequel too.
It's very difficult if not impossible to recast Woody Harrelson
Love the movies and had high hopes for the show. But just like you said… the TV show felt like a really dull boring worst copy of the originals. None of the characters were likable and felt more like they were just trying to copy the movie characters and failed miserably
I watched it back then, I thought “oh no, this isn’t good for the future of Amazon originals if this is what they have in mind.” Glad to be wrong on that front lol.
I love the Zombieland movie and even liked Zombieland 2, but this pilot was like the majority of these movie to TV series that weren’t good. The replacement actors were not good and the talking car concept was lame
Both the movies are great! Didn't know there was a show 😂
I sae this when it premiered. The moment a zombie was shot in the chest, leaving a huge hole, never getting back up. That was in the first 5 minutes, and i was done. Tried to enjoy it, but is wasngood at all
I'm a massive zombie fan, shows movies books visual novels fanfic etc.
Never even heard of this, glad I didn't, it looks dumb.
the tv show zombie land chick is from Corey in the House, i know that name anywhere
How was there a character literally written FOR an actor hardly anybody even knew existed. All of these actors seem like people they grabbed off the street. Ward being the worst of them.
In the movie they had a play on the show with dollar tree versions of them
I mean...it had the spirit, definitely. You just can't make Zombieland without Jesse or Woody
Eu lembro da época que lançaram isso, eu fiquei puto. Ainda bem que não deu certo, era uma péssima ideia.
Okay Eddie, calm down lol
It's like trying to recast Ghostbusters, it's impossible, just try something new
I remember reading about this show. Glad it didn’t make it
Hold on, They made a tv show about Misery?
Why didn’t they just make them different characters?? Doomed from the start.
There is no show. About 10 years ago a tv channel did 10 1 hour episodes of shows they wanted to do. They were looking for the fans to pick the shows they wanted. Zombieland was 1 episode it was good and funny but fans didn't like the fact it was not the movie cast so it never made it to a season.
I was just thinking about this
Because instead of doing a new original story in the same universe they always try a lukewarm reboot...
I would have taken the standard cheerleader football player nerd cliche group thing and made the smart people die and stupid people live...
also
i would have hired the wayans brothers to do the show...
people are craving for a scary movie substitute...
Ruben Fleischer used to be a decent director
Now he's just another director for hire
Oh, I most certainly did witness that awful Pilot...
I think castle rock did a great job with Annie.
I never even knew this was real.
I didn’t knew 2013 had a zombieland show, the only zombie show I was aware of was the walking dead 😂
Odd feeling of deja vu...pretty sure I watched this exact video like a week or 2 back 🤔😅
Didn't know there was a TV show
No surprise I didn't know the series existed; I absolutely hated the movie.
This looks like something that would be aired on the SyFy channel
this is literally the first time I've ever heard of a Zombieland show
Zombie land does have potential as a show for sure but they probably should’ve just used different characters that’s in the same world at least
This definitely could’ve been a great series, sad it didn’t go as planned and crashed and burned.
Didn't know there was a show
I'm with the other comments i had no idea this even existed and i've had prime for years
They prolly should've had different characters and plot line entirely if they couldn't get the original actors. Like that one walking dead spin off.
No, the one movie would have been fine. They tempted fate with a second, but I still really like Double Tap as well. I don't want them to belittle what these two movies have made.
The series came out before Double Tap
@@livinginreality6829 Yes. And I'm glad it failed so we have the two films and the two films only 😉
@@jonmayer 😭
I’ve seen the original probably 10 times. Didn’t know this show was a thing lol. The clips I saw here are proof didn’t miss anything 😂
