    I bought my 1000S in 2008- right new from the local Ducati Store, without any testride. It was love right from the first look! But when I rode home after 30km my neck, back, wrists- everything hurt. Just for some seconds I thought about bringing the bike back to the dealer... But luckily I decided to keep it. I startet a tour to Italy the next day. After about 2000km my body got in perfekt harmony with the bike! Today I really love everything of it! Its unique classic design, its aircooled engine, and the sound of the open termis. So happy with it!

    I am 6'3" and done trips of 350 miles + in a day. One trick I did is flip the clip on handle bars to the opposite side and upside down. It allowed me to stretch out and take pressure off the wrist and flatten out. Sounds like you need to do the pipe and emu. Lol wish I invested in the full fairing back in 2007 love the look.

  • @joenoneofyourbusiness6487

    Sport bikes like this are designed for canyon riding or race tracks. You apparently live in flatland. The way you ride this kind of bike is you grip the tank with your knees and hold your body up with your back with your arms slightly bent so that there is very little pressure on your hands. You can also lean on the tank a little bit to take the load off your hands. It's definitely a committed riding position that makes sense when you are hauling ass in the canyons, but is tiring when you just ride around on straight roads. You can see why harleys are so popular in the midwest, as there is little need to turn there.

Definitely easier on the hands and wrists into the wind, but the little bit of pain elsewhere is worth it😂. @@dorian_vlogs I actually prefer the sportbike position because I have lower lumbar disc issues. On a standard or ADV bike, unless I'm standing, my weight + my gear and the bumps from the road just transfer directly into my lower spine and after a ride I feel like I need to go to the chiro. But leaning forward, I take all that weight off. In fact, if my lower back is acting up, first thing I do after I get home is sit on my bike and the relief is instant, I can feel my spine decompress immediately.

    Beauty, but I missed the part as to why you think it failed. Some of them were a little overly committed for a street bike, that's for sure. And early 2ks were kinda the race replica era. Everyone was buying race bikes to ride wheelies down the interstate. Air cooled repli racers without the specs, weren't in big demand.
    One reason the Duc Classics got a black eye was the fuel tanks. Whatever plastic their supplier was using at the time was not compatible with the ethanol in American gas. It caused the fuel tanks to deform causing other problems.
    As I recall, Duc wouldn't recall the tanks and made it difficult to get a new one without one proving a deformation/problem existed.
    Probably still a good idea to run marine (ethanol free) gas in those bikes.

    • @dorian_vlogs
      @dorian_vlogs  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for the beauty compliments. It was lack of comfort that caused it to not do well. Even race motorcycles were easier on the wrists than this one. The warping tanks were just another issue they had. Bad press from motorcycle journalists ruined the bike's chances. They complained of wrist and back discomfort when they got off of the bike and that did it. I'd still prefer this over almost every other motorcycle. 😉
      The marine gas comment is interesting. Going to have to look into this. Makes perfect sense.

    This bike looks absolutely stunning. Must've been ahead of it's time for it to fail. I'm shocked nobody really talks about em these days.
    If the comfort was the issue I'm sure they could've tried the higher up handle bar type clip ons like on the hayabusa and ninja 250s to make it a little more upright, then if anyone wants realllll clip ons they can put em on.
    But based on the looks this would be the only Ducati I'd be in the market for.

    Would love to have one in my garage.
    You were saying about the hight of the rider but you went of topic. Are you saying that the bike might be suited to the taller rider? At 6 ft how did it fit you? Thanks 🤗

      @dorian_vlogs  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes sorry, I do that sometimes. The taller the better, 6'+ I think is ideal and I'm just there and it's borderline uncomfortable. Part of the problem is the clutch and front brake position I think. I did something very simple to make it better and it definitely helped. I filmed the modification if you're interested and already rode it and it's definitely better. 👍

    Thinking of buying a sport classic 1000. How has it been maintenance wise. Have you had any issues or learned any things you hate about it after owning it longer?

    • @dorian_vlogs
      @dorian_vlogs  Před 2 lety

      No issues whatsoever. My only issue is if you're not 6" or taller, this bike is not for you. The dynamics of it simply won't be in your favor. The distance between the tank and the handlebars is long and is better for a taller rider. The maintain is just like any other motorcycle. Don't believe the "ducati maintenance" hype. Oils, fluids etc. Just like anything else. CZcams and online groups can guide you thru maintaining and servicing it if you're somewhat mechanically inclined. The brembo brakes require a good/more experienced rider due to the lack of ABS. They've locked up on me once or twice causing me to almost lose control but that's on me. Now I'm more familiar with it and can predict brake feel a bit better. Comfort is the main issue but the attention you get is worth it to me. Hope this helps.

      If you haven't pulled the trigger yet, here's what I can tell you: In 13 years and 45k miles, I average $1k/year for routine maint, tires, desmo service, etc. It goes in 3 year cycles, 2 cheap years and then a kick in the pants with the 7,500 mile service. In all that time I've had one flat tire and a voltage regulator failure that put me on a flatbed, but otherwise, it's an air cooled, 2 valve, analog Ducati. Enjoy!

    Here’s how I fixed the riding position in my 2007, which I bought new then. Well, here’s how I made it less bad. (And also, they offered red 1000S bikes in all years the 1000S was in production.)

    I'm old enough to remember when brand-new tires had a preservative coating on them,you had to be very careful for the first few miles,but only a complete idiot puts tire shine on a motorcycle which is why it specifically instructs people to not do that on the bottle.

      His response was "I do it on my dirt bike all the time, I didn't even think about it".. all this as I'm busted up and bleeding. Needless to say I wanted to punch the guy but instead I got a significant discount on the motorcycle.

      @@dorian_vlogs oh brother!,you wonder how these people get by in life,glad you got a mighty discount,I used to run 3" of chain slack and "low" tire pressures on my dirt bike but you shouldn't need to be an engineer to know this is a bad idea on a road bike!

    Rest your belly on top of the tank on long trips. She definitely is the most uncomfortable "sporty" riding position bike of all time.
