      Joakim Sederlin no the vro is your fuel pump you can bypass the oil side and still use it for a fuel pump. But if you remove it then yes you will have to buy a regular fuel pump.

    Have a 2000 Johnson 50hp. For a couple years it was a pain to start. Always had to start it in neutral. Finally came across this video and this weekend I did everything in this video exactly as described (minus replacing airbox). The engine turned over on the first crank and is the 1st time I've ever gotten it to start without putting it in neutral. Thank you for this video, it was a game changer!

I am getting ready to delete the vro pump on my 1990 50hp evinrude and install regular pump as you did in video..this has to be one of the best informational video I’ve seen and I’ve been watching a ton for the last 5 days lol thanks again! • @josephm40
    @josephm40 Před 4 lety +4

    Great video. I did this to my E40TLESR last year. Works good but the VRO (variable ratio oil) would adjust oil/fuel based on rpm. Now getting 50-1 full time means too much oil at idle. (Smokes like hell). The VRO would adjust to 100-1 at idle then 50-1 at full throttle.

    • @BrandonsGarage
      @BrandonsGarage  Před 4 lety +7

      But think about it... you're at idle, then you full, or heavy, throttle it to get moving, for a few seconds you're running at a high RPM while the carbs, and fuel lines are all filled with 100:1.
      Do that long enough, you'll have premature wear that wouldn't have happened on 50:1 premix.

    • @AbsolutelyNot12345
      @AbsolutelyNot12345 Před 4 lety +4

      The main point of it all is to do away with any possibility of either the sensor going bad that tells you it’s not mixing, which is yet another part that could go bad. Also, it eliminates the chance of the VRO system simply not doing its job. It could get stuck at 100:1 and you not know it. It’ll run, till it doesn’t. Too many possibilities that are simply too easily avoided by spending $30 on a complete fuel pump kit and of course you get the few hours of time away from the aggravating youngans and mouthy wife 😂

      If your OCD gets the best of you as it has done myself. Simply buy a mesh screen (more durable than fiber) and epoxy it onto the holds on right side (starboard) of engine... if you have the plastic breather cover. Just make sure whatever you get will allow air at a sufficient rate. Another option to avoid anything going into the intake breather hole(s) is to install some sort of filter at the breather hole on the engine cover itself. If you have a good deal on the gasket located on bottom of the removable part of engine cover, that will eliminates by chance of debris finding its way in their.

    Need your advice. Here's the issue. I have a 2001 Johnson 50HP. The outboard doesn't start easily. I always have to put it into neutral and rev it up in order to start. It runs well at full throttle and get up to 30mph. but when I slow down or idle it stalls out when in the water. I have rebuilt the VRO pump, rebuilt the carbs, checked for leaks, etc. I have read that bad reed valves can cause this problem. Also, a MAP sensor or the AIC could be bad. I have looked at the manual and I'm not sure my outboard even has any of these. Any advice would be appreciated.

    My pump has three nipples coming out of it part number 0438557 for a 97 Johnsons 40hp. do I use the original pulse hole to operate this pump and run a hose cause there's no hole in the back of the pump where I took the bolt out of the side of the motor to mount the pump. Now I bought a gasket for the pump and removed that bolt I hope that gasket seals that hole off from the motor if im using the original pulse outlet.

      You just go ahead and keep your complicated VRO and wait for engine failure.. It will fail..And it will ruin the engine. The warning system will likely not save you either..Anytime you can get rid of overcomplicated, expensive technology..The better off you are. Motors did without all this crap for a century.. And they were rock solid without it..
