Aidan Lefeld that isn’t cancel culture. that’s literally just people using their platform to hold people accountable. cancel culture is when people are ostracized and virtually cancelled by their audience, the general public and their peers. it’s all hyperbolic and the phrase cancel culture has been overused because that never truly happens. people will almost always have their core audience and their friends back them up. and even if people do get cancelled, they almost always bounce back (logan paul) or they’re “cancelled” for being criminals, which in turn shouldn’t be considered cancel culture. outrage culture has always existed- look at the dixie chicks and celebs being blacklisted from their respective industries. but cancel culture is pure bullshit. cancel culture isn’t real outside of twitter.

i had a pretty viral tik tok with like a million likes and this girl took the exact concept and refused to credit me even after i dmed her. she got like 10M likes total i think. i get it’s just tik tok and people steal shit all the time but it made me so mad she couldn’t even just credit me

Dude that absolutely sucks. I had the same experience on instagram with my original art 😭 called out the guy so he blocked me lmao. Worst part is he has a much bigger following and makes money. So I feel you girl, share that @ so we can give you some support!
I think part of what makes it even more frustrating is that TikTok’s whole platform makes it super easy to properly credit someone(wether it be by properly labeling the audio or just redoing the tiktok(re-tokking? I dunno I’m not hip)) so in order to steal all the content that he has, he literally had to have gone out of his way in order to erase all proper credit.

Tiktok thrives on copying, but it makes very easy for people to copy it in a legitimate way, giving you the option to find the original tiktok when you see a copy. The platform thrives this way. The problem with this dude is that he goes out of the way to dribble Tiktok features.

Tiktok really does have a weird culture of being okay with not giving credit to creators. The sheer amount of art that people take off of google or Pinterest and use it for their own TikTok without even attempting to find the artists who made it is baffling. I think it's this understanding that everything on the internet is going to be uncredited or not sourced eventually but that doesn't make it okay. Artists and other creatives are making this shit for free because they enjoy it and seeing people take advantage of that shit is mad annoying.

As someone in academia, what he did is called plagiarism and is intellectual property theft. Like in academia, creators of any kind make their money off of their ideas. That means when you plagiarize them, you are *literally* stealing money from them. For a lot of people, those videos are how they eat. Copying their shit could essentially take food from their or their family's mouths.

Imo Vine was one of the first platforms to introduce a quick, simple and fast way of entretainment, you had 6-7 seconds to do something, it shaped comedy on social media in it's own way, and teenagers' sense of humor, it made it unique and introduced a sub-culture of comedy, random quirky and non-sensical jokes that people liked, youtube videos had to be substancial from beginning to end but Vine didn't, it was spontaneous. Tik Tok did it's own thing too but let's be honest it is waayy easier to profit from social media now than before so people like this guy are desesperate to have a crumb of attention despite the cost, because being stupid online is easy money, so tik tok isn't nor it will ever be up there with youtube and vine's humble era of comedy for youngsters.

I called out a lady that was lip synching a story time without crediting the original creator. She said that because she has an Irish accent naturally and the audio was American, she didn't have to put credit in the caption. Bullshit. It is your job as a "creator" to be transparent about where you are getting your content from. That's the way the law works. It's not a hint, it's not a subliminal message. It is a bold ass disclaimer stating who you got the content from. God damn.
