    My mother died of breast cancer and was overweight most of my childhood. My father died of advanced diabetes, heart disease and kidney disease. Both were very sedentary, both suffered from depression and slept a LOT. I remember feeling sad as a kid that they couldn't run around with me, that we'd go camping and just sit there. We didn't do things together, they watched me do them. I decided young that I didn't want to repeat that pattern, but as a naturally skinny person i was told I didn't have to exercise and wasn't taught to be active. I realized this past year that it was part of my identity to not be athletic or active. I didn't believe I could do it. I decided to change that, starting with yoga. I started cross country skiing, hiking, drinking more water and not drinking coffee. I feel so much better. Hopefully I will live a longer and healthier life than my folks and break the cycle.

      you are not them, its basic knowledge that sedentary lifestyles will speed up mortality. i dont buy into genetics too much because everything has a cause and 100% of people that say something runs in their family fail to mention that their family never exercised, ate poorly, drank poorly, slept poorly, abused excessive amounts or drugs/alcohol etc. that leads to that "it runs in my family" mentality. When anyone eating poorly and all thee above will suffer the same fate because its a fact and it happens everyday and people are warned and do nothing about it.

    Stuff like going for multiple walks per day, climbing stairs daily at a moderate pace, standing more, parking further away, running closer errands on foot instead of driving, etc..
    If someone is healthy, they should never be sitting/laying for an entire day. There should always be bouts of general movement throughout the entire day.

      You can undo it, the point she's making is is getting 30 minutes of exercise a day isn't enough, you need to be stood up for half of the day, to be in motion and move all of the time. Exercising for 30 minutes then sitting down for 16 hours invalidates that 30 minutes of exercise. I have somebody that usually complains about this kind of thing..... But even I get the point... They are not saying don't exercise because it won't help you... they are saying if you sit for 16 hours a day and exercise for 5 minutes, it is not enough to counteract the negative effects of being sedentary. They tell you what to do right in the video. People want to jump right to "I guess I don't have to exercise then"

      No, talk to your doctor first. But walking is a great exercise. Im overweight and began walking in place multiple times a day and walk my dog 1-2 times a day and I’ve lost weight and am in better shape. You can start small, 10 minutes is better than nothing you dont have to start with an hour. If your knees are okay, take the stairs. Everytime i have to go down i go back up then down so i get a little extra movement. You can even do things while sitting if you have any medical issues or pain

    • @TehLiquid
      @TehLiquid Před rokem +2

      You can undo it, the point she's making is is getting 30 minutes of exercise a day isn't enough, you need to be stood up for half of the day, to be in motion and move all of the time. Exercising for 30 minutes then sitting down for 16 hours invalidates that 30 minutes of exercise. Therefore exercise isn't enough, you need to stand up and move, every hour of being sat down you need to stand up for 20 minutes.

Kinda took the stress off me because i myself am sedentary and I see what it does to you and I am now actively turning myself around. I use to be an athlete and once you’ve seen what healthy feels like, you definitely realize what unhealthy feels like and it’s the worst.

      @Raiden-the-Goat32 Před rokem +3

      Well if they are literally home all day and have health issues this would also seem like they are on disability.
      If they are on disability and do not work this kinda would make it hard to stay in shape.
      Working out does not get you anywhere if you do not have enough nutrition.
      Just with protein if you are 160 pounds you 90-100 grams of protein a day to build muscle.
      This is not even getting into the vitamins minerals and antioxidants the human body needs per pound.
      So Honestly getting in shape requires alot of money for healthy foods and working out.
      But even both of those thing's do not mean anything if you have sleeping problems because the body need's rest.
      In some cases that people are unhealthy even if they are lazy it may not be as simple as they don't want to be healthy.
      In some cases they may not be able to sleep well so they have no energy.
      In other cases they may not have the necessary healthy food to give them energy so they will not have it.
      If the person does not have the energy how are they supposed to use it in a workout?
      I mean you can only use energy you have and the body does require enough rest.
      My point is just because someone is unhealthy and is inactive does not mean they don't want to be healthy.
      To be truly healthy requires exercise a lot of healthy food's and enough sleep.
      Also some medications make it harder to build muscle .

    I was born with asthma and respiratory issues and developed insulin resistance as a consequence of a badly prescribed drug (olanzapine) that should have never been prescribed to me. So, with such discouraging words, I rather keep my vegan anti-inflammatory diet and my meds for insulin resistance.
