The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos is the legendary modern retelling of this story you're yearning for insomuchas it reuses the planets trapped in a wee lil containers idea. To its credit, the way it depicts those containers is awesome.
I'll have to give it a rewatch some time. I had to Google 'The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos' twice to remember which episode is was.
I see it topping alot of 'Worst Modern Doctor Who Episodes' lists but I don't remember hating it...mostly coz I don't remember much of it other than it was fairly anticlimactic compared to other season finals.
@@Dirvinator yeh I think viewing it with the expectation of a season finale is setting expectation it will not fulfill. Like, it's not amazing but it's a solid ride.
I remember seeing it's name and wondering how I'll ever remember that name. It's absolutely an episode that is crucified by expectation, both coz it's a finale, and also because of its name. There is no battle, so it's set up to sound far more dramatic than it is. Much like how Journey to the Centre of the Tardis suffers massively from the expectations it places upon itself with its name.
10:04 no, I call it Douglas Adams having too much power lol 😂
Is he the funny man?
@@Dirvinator yup
I'm coming to like this funny man
I just noticed that the Season 15 Blu-ray has gone up for pre-order on JB Hi-Fi.
Yup. It's been up on the JBHiFi Australia site for a few weeks now.
Still nothing on the NZ store.
@@Dirvinator It's good to see they've got a new distributor.
Of note is the fact that this was the first DW story written by the legendary Douglas Adams, who would go on to create The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the character of Dirk Gently. His somewhat peculiar sense of humour is notable here; something which will become more prevalent in later stories.
If your tease for next week is anything to go by, I look forward to you upsetting the fan apple-cart once again.
The apple cart has been upset😵
I think I liked this one slightly more than the ribos operation but still didn't think it was anything special. I did find my attention drifting in and out so maybe I didn't fully understand what was going on. The parts where I was focusing, I really enjoyed and Tom baker really made this one. There were some really dodgy special effects in this one that made it laughable at times. I don't hate this season but judging by my reaction to the first 2 stories I don't think it's going to be one of my favourites.
I can 1000% relate to having my attention drift while trying to focus on Classic Who sometimes.
But it does make me appreciate when a story has great pacing.
