- Not long ago, friends and fans gathered to pay their final respects to one of the most unlikely celebrities in sports: Zippy Chippy, a grandson of Kentucky Derby royalty, but who himself had a perfect 0-for-100 record. Correspondent Steve Hartman looks back at why Zippy Chippy - who never won a single race - was in fact an inspiration to all.

Horse's are so gorgeous those big eyes and thier sleek beauty..kind and gentle.
He lost races and was known to bite people!
THIS IS SO SWEET!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING ZIPPY CHIPPY'S BEAUTIFUL STORY WITH THE WORLD!!!
He is so fortunate that someone loved and believed in him in spite of his record. So many horses are not so lucky.
I couldn't agree more! My mare got to live out the last of her 32yrs as a loved pasture ornament. So many never get their forever home or their names in history books.
Yeah, Felix was not only great with horses he was a great guy too and a huge heart.
My Sam was 35 when he died and I had him 30 of those 35 yrs! Miss him everyday!!!
Awesome story. Rip Zippy. You will always be a winner, in everyone's hearts.
This is a sweet story. ❤
Love this for many if us who are over, not the hill, but over the heck with running. Life is good when you know there there are roses.
God blesss zippy
Sweet story as I too adopted and deeply loved a racehorse, BURGOOS FELLOW aka "Spirit", a lovely gentle giant of 17.2 with a deep pedigree Which included grand sire Nasrullah. He was an OTTB (Off the Track ThoroughBred) racehorse I lost 2 yrs ago. at age 25, adopted at age 8 from Kentucky. But they ran Zippy in 100 races, good God why? I'm so glad he was blessed with great health and strong structure AND a long life and beloved. Much more needs to be done for horses who have raced and make them ALL beloved after their careers end. After all they are only 4-6 yrs old when that occurs. Adopt a OTTB whenever you can.
I adopted Deification in 2011. He by Empire Maker out of Adoration. He was in his very first race which was a claiming race in 2009 and injured himself. He went to a rehab for close to two years. He was fully recovered when I heard about him and wanted a another horse as I had recently lost my my old quarter horse and my other one needed a buddy. Anyhow I ride him all the time here in the deserts of western Nevada. He is called Lucky and like Zippy everyone loves him. And when they find out he is American Pharoahs brother it’s picture time.
Reminds me of the old Disney cartoon, Ferdinand the bull. All he wanted to do is sit, and smell the flowers.
Some horses have the heart to run. Some have the heart to just be beautiful. RIP Zippy!
Remembering Zippy Chippy.
Fixed it for y’all, Sunday Morning.
👍 I agree. 🌹 🐎 🌹
Zippy played by his own rules.
BRAVO, Zippy! You will always be a WINNER to me!
🎇🧡🎇👍🎇🧡👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Rest in peace Zippy.
I LOVE YOU ZIPPY!!!! LONG LIVE ZIPPY!!!!
Every race horse should have that kind of retirement.
**HOW DO YOU DO THIS HARTMAN!?! I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT A HORSE AND YET IM CRYING!! HOW!?!?**
So beautiful
The 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Memorial coming up on Sunday Morning
REST EASY LITTLE FELLA
Wonderful story.
It makes me feel good to know somewhere out there in the multiverse, Zippy Chippy has won the Triple Crown.
He might have been much happier as a pet or under saddle horse. Horses that don't like to race shouldn't be raced over and over.
Sweet. So fitting, around KY Derby time.
RIP Zippy and run like the wind my friend! May you be in heaven with Felix and watch over your pal Red Down South. See you at the races Zippy, thanks for the inspiration and farewell, you lost all your races, but you won over everyone. So you are a winner.
RIP LITTLE BUD 🏇🐴❤️🥰
RIP Zippy.
There's more to a horse than a race record...
And they’re off, Zippys like not yet
Awww
Enjoy heaven zippy!!
Don't remember if I sent you this, but here it is again
Where can I buy a Zippy Chippy hat?
😓☺🌹
Open any can of Pedigree Chum and you will see horses that lost.
There are plenty of Zippies out there , they just retire before they lose 100 races ! ! !
🥰🥰
Won't be remembered as one of my favorite OTRWSH stories but interesting nonetheless.
YOU'RE A VERY SICK PERSON
❤🙏
Because life is more than winning it was all about being loved ♥️✅May you be blessed with peace and graceful healing ❤️🩹 Jesus come into my heart ❤️ Holy Spirit fill me 💦Father thank you for saving me ♥️He loves you and it is not about the medals
Why are they celebrating literally the biggest loser. Lost every single race he was in? Like what?
Because win or lose he’s a record setter.
Maybe your the biggest loser and just don't get it.
Look up the word metaphor. Kinda slow out of the gate yourself 😂
@@feddi7693 so they’re celebrating the most losses? Idk anything at all about horse racing but isn’t it like literally any other race? You know first second and third place get medals. The rest go to the glue factory or whatever right?
