How much does Beijing control Taiwan's legislature?

  • CCP's influence operatives have strategically infiltrated Taiwanese politics. This was evident three days before Lai Ching-te's inauguration, when a melee erupted in Taiwan's parliament, resulting in five legislators being injured and one being hospitalized. The day after his inauguration, protests, both inside and outside Taiwan's parliament, further highlighted the calculated nature of these actions. These events align with Xi Jinping's Taiwan strategy, unveiled months ago by a China expert who obtained insider information. He said the CCP's strategy revolves around two high-profile Taiwanese politicians with pro-CCP leanings.
    1. Lai Ching-te's inauguration
    2. Chaos in Taiwan's Legislature and public protests
    3. Xi Jinping's Taiwan strategy revealed
    4. Is Taiwan's "house speaker" a Beijing operative?

I live in Taiwan, during the presidential campaign on 2020, the KMT candidate Han Kuo Yu was everywhere, his face was printed in all the buses, all the magazines, all TV channels, everywhere, it was absurd the amount of advertisement and media coverage this guy had. But even that he still lost. Not sure why he is the congress speaker now, he was not elected as part of the parliament.

Just like Lei, what surprised me was how he won the Mayor's race in Gaoxiong. It seems like he must have had some 'help' of some kind. Same thing with becoming 立法院長. In the U.S., while it's never happened, the House Speaker is not required to be a member of Congress. It sounds like Taiwan copied that from us.
I just read the article Lei linked to and it's really surprising. Normally I don't usually believe people who are supposed to have inside information about the CCP, but this case seems to be real. In the section "國台辦出台...", the paragraph that begins with "第三項" describes almost exactly what happened in the Taiwan legislature a few days ago. If this is true, Han Guoyu is more than just a crook, he's a traitor. That article should be spread around Taiwan social media if it hasn't already.

I knew that although the DPP won the top position in the country, they failed to win a majority in the legislature. The CCP's strategy and tactics would be to utilize this to sow discord, chaos, division, and dissent - virtually establishing gridlock. And, so it begins. This is what they also strive to do (and do) in the US.

Great video! I think the reason for trying to force the high speed rail project without review is because adding such an expensive burden to the budget could result in a reduction in defense spending, something that China obviously wants.
It's not clear that this will ultimately be good for the KMT because what they are doing is too obvious and irresponsible, and more of the public may begin to see the dishonesty and have less respect for them. That's why there are protests. The KMT have been trying to change their pro-Beijing image and this will hurt them. The TPP is also risking their future. A lot of younger voters chose the TPP as a compromise between the two other parties, and the younger voters don't like these attempts to weaken democracy. It's not what they expected from the TPP.

That high speed rail makes no sense. Taiwan is a small island and the current high speed rail gets you from one end to the other in about two hours. Also the way the coalition went about getting that proposal approved was very unusual. Seems eerily similar to the way the folks across the Taiwan strait do things. This is highly alarming. Folks in Taiwan need to wake up and realize what’s going on.

There seems to be problem in some detailing in the legislative constitution. How is it that a party leader without an elected seat, such as Han be allowed to be Legislature's speaker. Typically, one would think that they would have be elected in a congressional district before they can be a functional leader.

The Red 'throne' banner refers to Han assuming the speakers chair, or throne...your interpretation seems off. But, the CCP's United Front Works Department is trying to rip Taiwan's confidence in electoral democracy apart, as they do In most democratic states. for example, Australia, Canada and the UK have had explicit election and Gov. interference.

21:30 the second High-Speed Rail is through the remote earthquake prone eastern coast of Taiwan. My educated guess that the motive behind the opposition fifth column parties (KMT & TPP) to push this bill through is because the CCP plans to turn the eastern coasts of Taiwan to PLA military / submarine bases, and they needed ease of access to that part of the island. Currently there's only one Highway that runs through the entire region.

If France, self-proclaimed birthplace of democracy, self-proclaimed international sole representative of the "(white) Human Rights", can't let go of its former colony, Nouvelle Caledonie, I can assure you that the Chinese, as a nation, as a race, they will never let go of Taiwan. Just curious to see if the Chinese will be as united as are Japanese for instance... and find a workable one-country, two system, better than the one in HK.
