@@judithbellantoni7659 Alec, for all that he is strict with himself and others, DID have multiple points about how they were breaking multiple laws and that things WOULD come back to bite them in the ass (which they did)
Alec is just the voice of reason, and gets ignoredbecaue who need a voice of reason in a teen drama. Alec is also one of the best characters in the entire show. Simon gets treated too much as comic relief-bf, even when he gets through his transformation.

@@moonpower8 Lydia is a character that was added in the shows. Per orders of the Clave she takes temporary control of the Institute. Alec decides to marry her to regain his family's honor (basically a political marriage), but Magnus barges into the wedding and the two kiss so Alec and Lydia never marry. Lidya was actually ok with this; she tells Alec herself that he deserves to be happy.
Whether Lydia is a nice character or no is up to your opinion; I personally like her.

Okay so as a person who has read all the books, I see this show kinda differently from the way Alex looks at it. I mean when Alex said that this is moving really fast and a lot of stuff happens in just 2 episodes and I agree. I think that's the issue when people want to make books into a tv series. I mean there are 8 novels and the writers of this show were like "oh yeah so what if we just throw some stuff from the first 4 books, not even in the right order, to the first season that's gonna be great, right?" I mean I just- UGHHH
trust me: season 2 and 3 are so much better. the acting has definitely improved and the plot can be a bit much at times but its easier to understand once you get further!

@@xx-ig5eq You can't judge the entire show by one episode. From what I read, the show was supposed to be longer but they got cancelled and had to rush some plot. The second part of the last season certainly feels this way, like they had to cut out half of the plot/pace.
@Jolien Deschamps Yep. I didn't even know it was rushed. I watched it on Netflix and only finished it a few days ago. After the "one year later" part I was like "hold on a second is that the last episode?" pauses "omg this really is the last episode but how". I mean some fights against Valentine were feeling more final episode than the part with Jonathan. I enjoyed the show and actually was laughing sometimes and was on the verge of tears other times but the ending left me... just emotionally neutral. Such a pity they were rushed.
Lucy Blacker yeah and the new EP’s make it 100x better. Ed wasn’t great, and you can tell wig some of the weird decisions in terms of filming and overall aesthetic.

I absolutely LOVE this show. It is really confusing at the beginning, I'll give you that. It makes a lot more sense if you read the books. I get that not everyone is going to do that, but if you like the show but want to understand it more, read the books. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. The first one is called City of Bones. They're awesome fantasy books.

I think there’s too much information because of the 6 books. It’s trying to teach us everything in the shadow hunters world in 2 episodes
I think the issue with it though is it's a book originally. And thus suffers from what most movies or shows do based on books. They try to crame the most information into each episode incase they're cancelled than to lay it out in an organic manner.
1. The circle aren't their sworn enemy. The circle are their parents. The circle disbanded almost two decades ago.
2. The institute doesn't have any mundane-free areas.
3. That Sizzy scene never happened. The most we get at that point is Simon being willing to try her soup.
4. Clary actually forgets about Simon for days, and he's left worrying about her while she's at the institute until he finds her at Luke's house.
5. Why does Hodge look likes he's their age? He literally helped raise the Lightwoods.
6. Clary doesn't learn about the mind-wipe until after she meets with the silent brothers.
7.Only Valentine was doing anything. The rest of the circle didn't trust him anymore, and they thought that he had died.
8.No one is afraid of the silent brothers. They're just mildly creeped out.
9. There was no danger of the silent brothers killing Clary.
10. Clary's father is not revaeled until a conversation she has near the end of the book with Hodge.
11. Simon didn't get kidnapped. He turned himself into a rat at Magnus' party and the vampires mistook him for one of their own.
12. It is against the law for vampires to capture mundanes unless the mundane intrudes on their property.
13. Isabelle was only attracted to Simon after he became a vampire, because she enjoyed dating guys her parents didn't approve of. She started to actually fall in love with him after they started dating.
so this is another show where the main character finds out their not only special but they are special special

The best part of your videos (besides how adorable little alex is) is that you have characters of varying ethnicities represented as both the regular people characters in your imagined skits and the characters within the shows when you animate them. Idk if it is intentional for the sake of representation or just kind of happened but I enjoy it. Especially when you draw small people, they are so cute.
I wonder how Alex would react if Shadowhunters followed the books storyline and Simon was turned into a rat and THEN kidnapped.

What he's forgetting though is that alot of people who watch the show read the books before hand. Alot of us already had the basic knowledge of characters before the show even started. That's what Freeform was counting on.
Pilots are always difficult, they're trying to shove so much information into one episode while being awkward as hell.

Honestly I don't like the show... Like the book? I love them! I love The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Bane Chronicles, Tales of The Shadowhunter Academy, but the show is just not for me. It's not just that they change a lot, it's just it's not for me. It's something about translating it into a screen seems to be getting hard for people. The movie wasn't great and the show isn't either, but I love what they're trying to do even if it doesn't work for me... That is all

I believe I read something about the writer of the books taking heavy influences from Harry Potter, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's what that line is referencing.

Cassandra Clare is known for copying from other books. Ever read her book Magisterium? It's the same story like Harry Potter.

TableWrens there was a plagiarism scandal ages ago because Cassandra Clare (known then as Cassandra Claire) plagiarised from some popular and less popular books and tv shows whilst writing a Harry Potter fan fiction. That fan fiction then went on to inspire her The Mortal Instruments series, but nothing within her published books is plagiarised. But that’s probably what you read about.
Watching the tv show is a completely different experience from reading the books and it shows

Its really annoying when people say 'Its gets better after the first episode/season you just have to carry on watching' like the whole point of the first season or episode is draw you in and make you want to watch the rest. If it doesn't do that its not a great show then is it. Like most people don't wanna waste their time watching a whole season of something they don't enjoy so they can understand something they might enjoy.

I get the first season thing isn't worth it, but some shows really do get better after the first episode. To have a great first episode is important, but just because the first episode wasn't good doesn't make it impossible to have a good show. Every show has some minor points and sometimes that can be the first episode.

it is true that the main point of the first season is to draw you in, and this show failed misserably at this. But i continued watching and now i loved it. I understand if people don't want to go through that though. i mean i would love if people did, but im not making them. i just like to enjoy a show that I KNOW its not a masterpiece and that it can even be a complete mess now in a while, instead of watching something intense and deep and genious that i normaly watch

@@wiki1507 keep watching! Season 1 was a little 'cringy' in the writing and the way they had to act, but the show gets like 80% better the second you get to the end of season 1 and start season 2.
I want a reaction to season 2 episodes, as it didn't start to get good until then. Totally agree it was crazily rushed- they were trying to catch up on all of the book content in the space of about 2 seconds, so it didn't translate well on tv

Y-Dexter 13 it's amazing but spool drawn out. Like they make all the scenes in the most recent season sooo long it bores my ADD mind and it takes alot of effort to finish an episode. And then by the end because barely anything happened, I want to watch another. But I also don't want to because it's so drawn out it's boring
