I think Google Reader deserves an honorable mention: a product deemed or doomed to fail despite its users treasuring, loving and holding on to it long past its shutdown, feeling very let down by its collision course with Google+, and whatever else Google focused on next.
I would have included Google's Closed Captioning service. That thing fails most of the time, but it's false subtitles can end up as funny failed caption screenshots.

It took a long time to sort out the mess of copyright liability that was CZcams as of when they acquired it. They operated Google Video until they could sort that out and fully integrate without fearing massive litigation draining their profits.
