  • In this video I demonstrate how to estimate shingles for a hip roof.

    Very good. Thank you. For a rip roof as you have drawn, do you find that there is more waste that with a gable roof?

      Yes, there is more waste on a hip roof. Because of the angles there is plywood and shingles that can't be used. Where as hip roof has very little waste.

    couldnt you just divide the total square footage by 33 and get the total number of bundles?

      Since there is 100 square ft in a square and 3 bundles make a square. Each bundle covers covers about 33 square ft. So yes, you can take total square ft divide by 33 to get the number of bundles. Don't forget to add for waste.
