- In this video, I reveal the new Big Block Mopar 440 build that's destined for the dyno, then goes in to a 1969 Dodge Charger R/t SE. I prep and paint this block with the KBS coatings Hemi Orange Paint. You may be interested in using this paint on your next build.

Looks great! Excellent application. 💪
Glad you like it!
Very nice Joe.
Thanks for the shout out.
Always very nice clean and sanitary job.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a great day.
Thanks, you too!
Awesome
Thanks brother
Nice job, had good luck with KBS products in the past.
Thank you!
That's very good stuff! I used it on my 68
Good to hear! Thanks brother
Neat and tidy. I always make a mess, no matter what I'm painting.
Thanks brother! I’m painting cars, engine blocks, maybe even trucks! Stay tuned!
Nice work Joe! Should be nice for years to come. I dig the color.
You and me both! Thanks buddy
Looks really good! I'm impressed
Thanks, Andy! It was a process!
Awesome job! Turned out great!👍
Thanks buddy!
Another mopar engine is about to roar to life !!
It’ll be a stout one! Excited for it!
😎👍 Today it's JustPicassoJoe - Nice work Joe, it looks great.
Haha! A variety show over here 😂
Starting the exact same thing today on a 318 block. This is the only video ive found that actually goes into detail on using all the KBS products. KBS should pay you for the informative how-to, lol. Thanks for the informative content JMJ
Thanks brother! They did leave me a good comment at least 😂
That turned out great. I really like a good self leveling paint on surfaces like an engine block. Very nice..
Thanks brother!
Nice work Joe!
Thanks, buddy!
I wouldn't be convinced that it was applied with a brush but I saw it with my own two eyes, looks so good you would think it was sprayed on, very nice work as always, thanks for sharing the process and product
Thank you! I appreciate you catching up on videos
Nice picture of the Indian Chief!! 😊
Got that from my grandpa
😊 nice 👍
Thanks brother
Well done Joe! Quality stuff!
Much appreciated!
I like the color
They say, trust the process.
The paint kit looks to be good quality, it filled in nicely on the cast surface hope to see more of the engine in the future after wear and tear set in when the restoration is completed....thanks.
Thank you! I’ll break it in on my run stand and then dyno with headers on and hot. I will update if there’s any changes.
You should have a white coat on Joe 😀 beautiful work as usual 👍🏻💯🇦🇺⛽️.
Haha! I just missed the opportunity at Halloween
That looks like a great finish on it, hope it holds up good and your buddy will be happy and be able to give you an update on it.
Thanks. Jeff!
I will be waiting for the each following video on this build I got a 440 at the machine shop right now .030 over square decked etc. I got everything for the build but watching your build and dyno I might change my mind good job as always thanks
Sounds great! I’ll share all the specs soon
The ‘E’ on the ID pad does stand for the 1969 model year. ‘68 was D, and so on.
Perfect! Thank you
Had never tried KBS before, but after watching your video, ordered some rust seal and chrysler blue for a 360 I'm putting together. Hope it lasts longer than the rattle can blue which burns off in about a year. Keep up the good work.
Good luck! It’s a process, but KBS commented under this video. I think it’s legit!
Purty! And everyone knows hemi orange adds 20 hp! Seriously, that's looking really nice! I'll be following this build closely!
Thanks, Ray! I’m excited for it
Definitely was surprised you did only the block. But yeah thats going to be sharp as hell. I think you mentioned just scraping back the overlaps on gasket surfaces with a blade, but them stones sure do a nice job too!
Im always super impressed with your attention to detail and dedication to top notch quality in your build process! You da man Joe!
I appreciate that! Thanks buddy
I hear plasma sparks help cure paint faster!!
That’ll do it😂
Joe, that looks sharp! I'm betting it adds a lot to the overall appeal of the car. Attention to detail is one of your finest qualities. Build on Brother!
Thanks, Brad! It’ll look nice on that run stand 🚀
That looks sweet!! Hell that's like 10 extra hp's there with that slick paint job! 😉
Haha! Hope to beat the 400 with this one. Better heads and more cubes!
@JustMoparJoe Oh yea definitely! Lookin forward to the build, and the Dyno results 👍
Call me Tom Sawyer, but I could watch you paint all day long. Give us a painting video that shows the entire painting of the block!
I’d have to charge all my batteries! 😂 thanks brother
As my dear mother use to tell me@@JustMoparJoe , "Don't be a weenie!" Just kidding, Love your stuff. I used to live in Owasso and miss it dearly, but I'm a westerner and must have all the land to hunt on. Absolutely love your stuff! Dude! You have a great channel!
@@montana_garage thanks! I was up your way last summer.

Joe you put the last coating on upsidedown. 😂
That’s so the paint wouldn’t run 🏃♀️
AAAALLL right Mopar Joe.....You are the Picasso of engine prep and painting. That engines going to shine like a diamond in a goat's ass!
😂 thanks Mike
Bob Ross would be proud!
Just a happy little engine
Lmao!
🤣😂
redrill oil passages; I have found broken drill bits in the main feeds (oiling thru the flutes) also holes not drilled all the way through due to factory using resharpened too many time bits Use GLYPTOL on the inside, rust oleum and others shed metal into your motor bottom tap those bolt holes hope line bore did it before line bore you can index the cam oil feeds to around 4 o'clock by several methods drill a .040 hole in the front plugs to vent foam and oil the chain drill through the thrust into the oil feed to pressure feed the thrust, especially on a stick trans take off all the casting flash hav3 fun cut the deck for 0.0 deck with fel pro gasket and closed chamber heads, do not use open chamber stock heads
Lots of knowledge that’s lost and found 👍🏼
I don’t think this is a “facebook marketplace rebuild”. Lol
Dang right!
🍊
🫡
I believe it will go faster
Always! Thanks buddy
I still got a running healthy 440 with 727 torque flight
Excellent!
Great , that blocks pre 73' castings are the Best 🍻.
This one is really nice, after the machine work. I don’t think mopar made a we was k block. I look forward to sonic testing more with Rick Seeman.
love the tune at the end... title?
Got ya! czcams.com/video/DRyf-QqibQA/video.htmlsi=bi_KhkqLe1XUngJs
Hello Mopar Joe, sorry for my bad English. Your videos are very good and instructive. I would like to know which product you recommend for painting the inside of the block?
Thanks for the compliment! The product for painting the inside is called glyptal. I would imagine that KBS makes a coating for inside the block as well. I’ve never painted the inside of one.
Personally, I would NEVER paint the inside of any engine. I have seen the results of paint chips in the oil pump, not a pretty sight, not to mention very expensive to have to rebuild an engine again.
Could you use the first coat with a clear I like the aluminum look unless they have a aluminum color I could use for my 68 440
They have a cast aluminum color that looks great! I did the intake with it, and its available in a rattle can.
@@JustMoparJoe thank you
Rust blast smelled very familar hmmm.
Pungent stuff! Thanks John!
I think Max Wedge is right . Upsidedown !❤🤣 😂
I painted this one every which way but loose!
Hay bro in your opinion. I'm going to get a 69 Dodge dart. What would be better to build a 318 340 or 383 I'm not rich but like horse power lol
I’d go 383 all day! Add aluminum heads and it be lighter than a 360 with iron heads!
So how much paint is needed for a 440 with cast iron heads, stock oil pan and valve covers?? Chrysler blue..Going into my 73 Winnebago motorhome..
I think a pint would do it, thinned and sprayed
@@JustMoparJoe I forgot on the list of things to paint..the water pump casting..I think I will try to brush it all on..A lot more controlled that way..
This motorhome has 115,000 miles on it and the engine is original..At the machine shop right now..In places you can see the blue original color..
Never done a 440 before. All new experience ..Trans is burnt in the clutches..Someone replace the carb with an Edelbrock and did not set the linkage correctly..
So rebuilding it too..
@@MichaelJohnson-cm4wp you can get a quart to be safe. I still have to paint oil pan, water pump, and timing cover. That will be fun because it’s billet 😂
Hi. I have a Chrysler 1978 with 400 engine and the valve cover leaks. What brand of gasket would you recommend?
If you’re using stock covers, then I would go with good old cork. Be sure the rails are straight and flat. If they’re aftermarket with thick rails, I like the moroso blue rubber gaskets.
Hello. It is stock. Would this be good-FEL-PRO VS 50145 R Valve Cover Gasket?
@@belloa3026 I would rather buy FEL-VS13379.
@@JustMoparJoe Do I need sealant with that? If so what do you recommend?
Also I need to replace one of the bolts the valve cover gasket can I use grade 5 or 8 bolt?
the block is mark on N which mean night cause D=Day N=Night and it look like it at 5pm on June 03, 1968 that went in a July 1968 car cause engine is built at least 2-3 weeks before the plant finish making the car if the engine built in the 2nd week of July 1968 it will be in a August 1968 for the 1969 year model car right.
Someone identified the marking on the top pad for me
Very nice when you retire you will be a painter ( Rembrandt)😁🛻
I hope so😂
