    I’ve seen a similar sandwich served in Dominican restaurants often, but they usually just call it a toston sandwich. The Jibarito seems attributed to Pruerto Rico. Is there a difference between the Dominican version and Puerto Rican version?
    Great channel btw.

      Yes, it goes by the name Patacón (some also call it a Dominican Burger). The difference I believe is what goes in between. The Jibarito traditionally comes with marinated steak. But what is the same for both is that the tostones are used as the bread and that’s just freaking genius 😆 Thank you and appreciate your comment 🙏🏾

    I feel like the amount of canola oil is going to give me a heart attack just from watching this video.
    Still determined to make this dish at home, but I’ll use unrefined olive oil.

      If you don’t want to fry the tostones in oil, you can air fry them. I personally like the texture traditional frying gives the tostones. Thanks for watching 🙏🏾

      The problem isn’t frying, the problem is frying them in chemically refined oil full of oxidised fats that is known to increase the risk of heart disease.
      If you fried them in olive oil, butter, lard or some other natural fat, they would have the same texture, be healthier and possibly even tastier. After all, people have been frying plantains for centuries while canola oil is a late 20th century invention from Canada which tells you that it’s not what they originally used. I have been witnessing couple of my family members living with heart disease (to a large extent caused by food) for over three decades and trust me, no food is worth it, no matter how tasty or crispy.
