- Fun IFR/VFR flight in the Chicago area to show/explain the differences between the Cessna 340 and the Cessna 310. My buddy John was feeling bad for my lack of recent flight time and offered to take me flying in his beautiful 340. We were able to show off the pressurization, air conditioning, turbocharging and cabin class differences. As my air traffic control friend mentions...Go DAWGS!!

I got my privates at age 20. Haven’t flown as PIC since I was 22. I am 50 now. Something about this video is giving me the urge to start flying again. Thank you.
never too late to grab an instructor and have some fun. Life is short, do it even for a little bit if you can.
Do it and let us know how it went !
Listened yesterday while driving up I-85. Watched when I got home. Glad you got back in the air. GO DAWGS!
Awesome video! Thanks for showing the difference on your plane and the 340, also very cool seeing that twin beech at the end!
Really enjoyed that video Kevin. nice job pointing out the differences in the two planes and explaining the pressurization etc.. very interesting. looked comfortable in the cabin as well. thanks!
Nice video Kevin...love the beautiful twin beech at the end. I used to jump out of one at West Point DZ in Virginia...one of my all time favorite aircraft. I'm 55 years old and have around 33 hours towards my PPL and you are a big inspiration to me...never too late to get a license.... Keep up the great work.
Thank you and and John for this wonderful flight. My father was a king air pilot from way back, and this brings back soooo many memories. Again thank you.
You're very welcome Ray! Glad to take you back to some fond memories. :)
Great video and nice comparison between the 310 and 340. Nice to know that Aurora has K9 hangar security :) Also the twin Beech at the end is just icing on the cake! Looking forward to seeing 1BC with the new paint job. Fly safe!
I have been watching one video after another, I'm hooked! Great content and love you guys! I cant wait to see the paint job! Go Dawgs!
Thanks for the feedback Brandon and glad you're enjoying the channel!! We are excited to get her back soon. Go DAWGS!!
Really enjoyed this Kevin, even being a non-pilot I found it very interesting. Thanks to John and yourself for another great watch !
Glad you enjoyed it Barry!! :)
Another great Video! Always educational , thanks mate. Hope your 310 all works out for ya
Good to see you back in the air Kevin, strange seeing you as a co-pilot ;) Thanks to John for keeping us entertained while we wait for BC to return, I'm sure the wait will be worth it :)
Love this Vid. It always amazes me that people give these videos thumbs down. They must not be pilots or they are arrogant pilots. Love these videos Kevin. Keepm coming.
As always excellent content guys! Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.
I always enjoy watching your videos. I do appreciate how you explain aspects of the aircraft and/or flying.
Thanks for the feedback Phill....glad you're enjoying the channel. :)
@@310Pilot I like the paint job of your pickup truck
Great Video Kevin. I grew up in a 310. Now I fly the Alabeo 310R and old Carenado 340 in FSX with real wx and try to follow real procedures. Plenty of reference info on 310 and I’ve learned much from your vids. This real world practical 340 info and direct comparison is great!
Thank you very much for showing us the differences between yours and thee 340 ,look forward to seeing your new paint job all the best Paul
You're very welcome Paul...glad you enjoyed it! I've been posting some upgrade pics on Instagram of our bird. Primer went on this week!!
Great idea for a video! Thanks to both of you. I really enjoyed it!
Love the music as usual. Great to hear the differences in the 310 and 340. Semper Fi
Man I love the educational style of this video, just casual conversation while giving me loads of knowledge. Go Dawgs!
Glad you liked this one Chris! Go DAWGS!!
Great information, I am looking at a very nice 340 right now . Thanks this is very helpful
Great video gents-thanks for sharing! I’ve been flying the C340 for almost 4 years now, and it is a fantastic airplane.
Outstanding vlog Kevin. John is a really nice guy. Beautiful plane too. 1BC will be done soon. I know you can't wait! Thanks and be safe.
Great to see you flying again. Can't wait to see the new paint job!
Thanks Derek...shouldn't be too much longer now!!
This is cool as you guys communicate you include the viewer with good explanations as you have a little more freedom as non pic. Great video.
Thank you for the feedback James...glad you enjoyed it!
Hey guys,..I stumbled apon this channel by accident and I'm glad I did!..I used to fly Cessna 172's in Civil Air Patrol years ago. I miss the wind under the wings and the rush of flight. I have watched every episode,.some more than others!..I found an used 310d for sale locally raised an eyebrow!..hmmm.. I'll continue to enjoy your show.Your an outstanding team in the air.Go Dawgs!
Drone footage at the end is awesome! Looking forward to seeing 310 and her new paint scheme.
Love the videos Kevin. From 310 to buggies and bines to other aviators and their rides. Awesome.
Thank you Henry...glad you enjoyed it!
Interesting that two pilots stay pretty busy handling a twin. Thanks for all the detail on instruments. the close-ups on instruments really helps. Great radio comms!
Great checklist usage. I built 340's in the 70's and instructed in one out of OWD (Norwood, MA) in the 80's. It is a fine airplane.
Your videos are great. Can't wait to see the new paint job.
Wow, that Canadian Beech 18 was Beautiful!! Nice 340 flight Kev!
Kevin, Nice job on the video. Hopefully they are finishing that plane up for you soon. At least you were able to get out and fly around though. Have a great weekend.
Your flying videos bring back some great flying memories. I used to rent Cherokees out of Aurora Airport back in the 1980’s. Also had friends that worked at ZAU. I have lived in the Seattle area ever since then. I hope to get back into flying soon.
I flew Cherokees at ARR in the '80s, too, and then I moved to Seattle. Now I'm in Portland. Small world.
Love that you give us so much information on the 2 air planes
Glad you enjoyed it Buddy!
My grandfather owned a 310, 340 and 414 with the Ram conversions at the same time because he kept upgrading and wasn’t able to sale the other 2 very quickly and they were all very practical aircraft. Really liked the 340 and 414 the most. Miss those days of flying with him.
Kevin,
Nice change of pace, but I still think your 310 is awesome! Looking forward to seeing the new colors.
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Great video. Always loved the 340 and 310s. Never been in a 340 but have been in 310 few times. Great planes.
Super! Just got my multi-commercial instrument in an old TravelAir. Really liked seeing the workings of a more advanced twin like the 340.
I love your videos!!! Different airplanes, different flying, different demands. Just viewed a single (turbo) engine Cirrus flying FL230. Just imagine going from a Stearman to a 310 to a King Aire to a F-22 Raptor, just imagine. There are a few of us that have, not me, but one can dream. I'm really looking forward to your bird with new feathers. Good flying!
Had that centerline on a rail. Nice work. Great to see two capable pilots manage a cockpit together.
Nice job keeping the vids coming even when your plane is down... Thank you! :)
The 340 is a very nice plane, a friend of mine owns one and uses it to charter mostly business people around California.
New year's Eve 2012 he flew myself and my band to San Diego so we could play a gig on a large charter boat! The ride was very smooth and the fact that the cabin is pressurized allowed us to go over a set list in flight without headphones.
Kevin, this plane would be a swell mother's day gift for your better half. ;)
Kevin I so enjoy your professional approach to flying. Small points, keeping the runway centreline on take-off and landing. A discipline I remember from my first flying lesson. A pity that the 911 crises robbed you from joining the airlines.
You had me at “Go Dawgs”. Just watched a few videos and was on the fence till I hard that!
Love your vids. Looking fwd to the new paint...
I enjoyed seeing the difference between a 310 and a 340, I'm not a pilot but always wanted to take lessons. Christmas of 2018 my wife surprises me with a certificate that can be used towards flying lessons out of Galt! I was 62 and it was easily the best Christmas gift ever!! Life is still busy but I've used a few hours, my instructor is a long time friend who was my Lieutenant when I started on the Wheeling Fire Department in 1980. He's been flying for a long time so he's patient like you are. Hopefully you get 1BC back soon, I'm looking forward to seeing the new paint scheme!
Can’t wait to see the new paint job.
Tripped over your channel. Flew in a friends 310 decades ago. Great looking aircraft. Nice upgrades. Subscribed
Glad you found us Chris and hope you find some past videos/future videos entertaining. Thanks for subscribing!!
Very nicely explained and flown. Great vid Kevin! Count me as a follower from now on.
Awesome...thanks Javier!! Hope you continue to enjoy the channel. Just picked our plane up from paint. New fun videos start back up on Friday.
Thanks for keeping us followers in the air. Great video.
Beautiful ( and highly capable ) bird !!! Thanks for the ride gentlemen .................
Your guys are so professional this seams like a flight training vid. Thank you.
Good explanation of the cabin pressurization system operation on the 340.👍
This fulfills “Any excuse to go flying!” Thanks for the flight.
Glad you got some air time, while waiting for your new paint. (And... Nice Beech 18 at the end!)
Me too Mike...it was exactly what I needed. One of these day's I'm going to get a ride on a Beech 18. :)
That was a great video very informative and 2 excellent safe flyers.
Wow, that brought back memories. Learned to fly at Aurora airport back in 1988. Commercial and CFI. Did some flight instructing out of DeKalb. Haven't flown since early 90's.
It was so much fun to watch. Thanks for putting it up. I hope you guys are doing OK
Thank you Josh...glad you enjoyed it! We are doing okay so far. Hope you and yours are doing okay as well.
Very interesting video! You both make it look easy haha!
Big little suprise is the insane reflecting polished twin radial-engine Beechcraft rolling by in the last few seconds!
When you pick up the 310 from the paint shop, and if you stop in Atl, I suggest you pay the folks at Epps Aviation a visit at PDK, if you haven't already. The Epps family is very rich in GA aviation. Pat's dad was to GA what the Wright bros were to the U.S. He built the first plane in GA while in Athens. Hence the Epps name on the airport. Pat was also responsible for the Lost Squadron being found. Really nice folks, and a good place to stop for fuel.
Love the sound of the twin engines, like a cat purring, puts me to sleep. Thanks for sharing.
Me too Dana...it's intoxicating. :)
Great video. Amazing the difference between the 310 sixes and the 340 turbo sixes.
Great Channel. My wife and I like to fly the same type of trips you guys are taking, especially to the beaches. Keep up the good work. From a fellow bulldawg flyer from Calhoun, Ga.
Thanks Tony...glad you're enjoying it! Maybe one day we'll see you around. Aviation is a small world. Go DAWGS!! :)
"Over the stacks"
I sure do miss the sounds of those Continentals... I have about 2000 hours (mostly single pilot IFR) on 310's about 30 years ago and loved every second of it. I did get a bit of 340 and 404/421 time as well and agree the 340 is just that much more versatile. I surprised myself by remembering the v-speeds and the 180 for the the first notch of flaps and 140 for the gear. I've only flown about 5 hours since then (separated by about 15 years each 2.5 hours) but it's like riding a bike. Thanks for the ride... really enjoyed it.
From a guy with zero knowledge about pressurized cabins that discussion was cool to hear. Good explanations. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it Brennan! :)
Great Video Kevin. I hope you get your 310 back from paint soon.
I can appreciate the knowledge level necessary to fly this aircraft and you both made it look easy. The pressurization and turbocharging make this model and great cross county aircraft. However, Kevin can you devel into the annual inspection cost comparison between the 310 vs 340? Thx. DD
Figure about 20% more for turbochargers and the greater complexity.
Kevin, Thank you for taking us along
Pretty flight. Also thank you for explaining
The fuel system. All ways enjoy the
Explanations
Recently received a book on Amelia Earhart’s plane.
She had a 1937 Lockheed Electra, they allowed
Me to ask a question on how the plane was
Started. I was sure you don’t just get in and
Turn the key. The procedure she had to follow
Sounds quite complex.
BR
Nice video Kevin. I've had the chance to fly in a couple 340's but I still like the 310. That Beechcraft, a G-18? I got to fly in several of those long ago. Nice experience. Look forward to you getting your plane back with the new paint job. Fly safe.
Nice episode, Kevin. Thanks to your friend John. The drone footage was a good addition.
Thanks for the feedback Karl...glad you enjoyed it!
Oh hell yea, The drone footage was the icing on the cake!
You guys ran one of the most professional cockpits I have seen. Like you have have been doing it for years. That's what happens when two excellent pilots get together. Fun and by the book.
Wow... The 340 is just different enough to be in the Creepy Valley. I'm certain it is an awesome craft, but not sure if I would want my passengers to sit backwards. Looking forward to the new paint job. Thanks as always for sharing with us land lubbers!
I didn't realize you're out of Aurora! I'm in the (far) Northwest burbs. I started watching your channel because I'm considering getting by pilot's license. Thanks for the great content!
Hmmm...is 310 Pilot going to become 340 pilot???? :) Gr8 editing the flybys and landings!!! Gr8 vid Kevin!!! Thnx fore the ride along!
Hi Kevin, LOL, second time watching this video. Love those 340 engines and props making beautiful music on the takeoff roll and climb out. I enjoyed your workmate, Eric saying "N6827L, Climb and maintain 1-2-thousand, go Dawgs", and your compulsory and expected reply, "27L up to 12 thousand, go Dawgs! Was very funny and made me chuckle. And I'm not even an American, but I know who you're talking about.
Down my way in south pacific NZL, we say "Go the 'All Blacks'", who are the world's best international rugby team, wearing only a black colored uniform of short sleeved jersey, shorts, studded football boots, mouth-guards, lots of tape around body joints, no body armor, no helmets, no black lines under the eyes, no timeouts, but our national silver fern leaf emblem on the left chest, and their 1 to 15 position numbers on their backs. We play on real grass turf with 1 team, for two 40 minute halves that don't stop active play, and mostly win against the 4 UK countries, Australia, Argentina, France, and South Africa! :)
This was fun to watch... you flew directly over my house north of Rockford!
That was cool to see the difference between the 310 and the 340.
Nothing so sad as a pilot without his plane, LOL. I hope 1BC comes home sooner rather than later, Kevin.
That looked like a lot of fun. That Beech at the end was GORGEOUS! So is the the 340 you were in. It's nice getting back into the air isn't it? I look forward to weekends with good weather and all I'm doing is flying... it's hard to explain it to those that haven't done it.
Great drone footage! Nice touch.
I'll take one...J/K I'm a C177 guy budget. Thanks for the video Kevin...Great Plane...Looking forward to the new paint on the 310!
I enjoyed this one Kevin. We had a 414A which is very similar to the 340 in performance. I think it is time to do a C-310 v Premier 1A comparison. What do you say?
Wouldn't even compare! .......
Even you know the Cessna is way cooler Greg 😄
EspecIally $/nm or $/hr. Turbines thirsty and expensive.
Gr8 Flight..cant wait to see the 310 ,Finished!
I love 340s enemies more with the Ram and Robinson conversions and vortex generators. For the 310 I’m in love with the R models.
Enjoyed watching you guys in that 340 Kevin. Interesting the differences in planes. You'll have the 310 back before you know it.
Well Kevin if you were ever thinking about trade in value now is the time, your plane will be in it's best shape ever soon so now would be the perfect time to take it up a notch!!! But then there will always be something bigger. Thanks for the ride along!!!
This is the first time I’ve seen you in a video without sunglasses! I didn’t think it was you at first. You also sound completely different on a headset.
Not so well known is the C-335. Non pressurized version of the 340. Had the pleasure of flying one in South Africa. As I understand it, both planes have exactly the same wing as the C-310 on the equivalent years of each. Wonderful wing and love those split flaps. Great planes.
The Beech at the end is simply beautiful. One of my dream airplanes.
The twin beech was icing on the cake Scott Wheeler
Was that an Electra? (Amelia Earhart )
One day I'm going to get a ride on a Beech 18!!
From a Canadian, nice to see the Canadian markings and the Ontario flag on her!
@@310Pilot Our local parachute club had a Beech 18 for a few years. Hitched a ride once ( don't jump) great old bird, very manoeuverable but noisy.
Great Flight Kevin!
The 340 is an excellent airplane especially for getting higher with the pressurization. The more complex, the more expense however. Thanks for sharing that enjoyable primer on the 340
Very interesting seeing the 340. Thank you for sharing.
Take care,
Be safe.
Kevin, Good to see you airborne again. The withdrawal symptoms must have been getting severe by now! 😉
Thanks for the “free” flight. Enjoyed the explanation of the instruments. See you on the next one. 🛩
Always... Go Dawgs! Thanks for sharing.
You're Skyhaven neighbor has one beautiful 340!
Thank you Kevin, I learned a lot from you both today. Specifically on flight characteristics between pressurized and non pressurized aircraft.
While if flight I mean.
In flight!
Next time try the „edit comment“ feature
Nice flight. I love the explanation of the pressurization, it sure filled in some blanks. John is right, using asymmetric thrust for crosswind approches/landings is the way to go. You need to practice them though to get good at it. It sure smooths out the approach and makes you look like a pro when done correctly.
Glad you enjoyed it Richard! I'll have to toy with the asymmetric landings...I have done that for takeoff a few times. Always learning. :)
Gotta love that L5P Kevin, it is a beauty!! Black is such a tough color though.
Thanks Alan...I'm loving that truck!!
I envision Kevin stopping by 1BC’s hanger just to look where 1BC should be. Hang in there buddy, 1BC will be home soon! Oh, great video as always!
Pressurized GA are a chore! A lot to learn. Thanks.
YES THIS WAS MY SUGGESTION YOOOO THIS IS AWESOME!!!!
Thanks Will...glad you enjoyed it. :)
@@310Pilot Thanks my dad is in the process of buying one of these! We currently are in a 210
Nice dido, I love the way you comutate, and tell us how it works, and regulates, my daughter has a half brother, and he is going for his pilot’s license, and at some point owning his own plane ✈️, I like turbos ,dose it get better mileages than the other ✈️, thanks BigAl California.
I remember back in '74 that State Farm insurance in Bloomington used to fly a couple of these 340's. They were very nice airplanes 👍🇺🇸
