Thanks Jim. I already have a buyer for the engine and transmission! I'm keeping the transfer case for the V8 swap. How's your Jeep coming along? Happy Thanksgiving!
JD Offline Well, I wound up replacing my gas tank and sending unit along with some hoses. It just had too much rust and corrosion. I finally got the frame cleaned up up 95% of the rust and repainted. I'm going to rebuild the heater system, new heater core, blower, etc. My plan is after the first of the year to get the transmission looked at. It shifts easily enough, but slips out of gear, and when I try to take it out on the highway I feel the engine revving up, but the vehicle struggles to get up to speed. Hopefully it won't be too costly to repair. Jim
JD Offline Hey JD, Do you know what kind of transmission your Jeep had? I've read that Jeeps had several different kinds. TR 175, SR4, etc. I believe that the 80 and 81 had an SR4. What type of transmission did you decide upon. Jim
Currently I have the T4 which is regarded as the worst transmission Jeep ever made. It will certainly not hold up to V8 power. The transmission I’m going to pair up w the 350 is the ax15. It can handle the horsepower and is a 5 speed.
Hey JD... question for you. Back when you put your lift on, did you have any issues lining up your skid plate mounting bolts and transmission bolts? I'm rebuilding an 84 cj7 and doing a frame off. I've put on a 4" lift while it was apart. Now I'm trying to reinstall the engine/trans/transfer case and suddenly the bolts dont line up. Any suggestions? Happy Thanksgiving btw!
DB, no issues with that. What kind of lift did you put on? I'm trying to think of why that would have happened. You're talking about the transmission cross member correct? Happy Thanksgiving!!
It's a rough country 4" lift and yes on the transmission cross member. I also put in new motor mounts and a new transmission mount. It's almost like the motor mounts moved the engine forward about 1/2". I've talked to just about every gear head I know, and everyone is puzzled! About the only option I have now is to open up the mounting holes on the skid plate to allow it to line up with the holes in the frame.
That’s to offset the change in angle to your drive lines from the lift. I wouldn’t think that would alter the mounting location of your cross member. I have the 4 inch bds lift and it has those same spacers and it didn’t change my transmission mounting location. Based on what you’ve said so far I would still suspect the motor mounts.
@@JDOffline if your motor mounts are still attached to your frame, is there anyway you can post pics of them (up close)? I wonder if its possible to install them either upside down or on the wrong side and if that would change the front to back location of the engine? Also...which set of holes were used on your transmission mount?
Great video. Looking forward to seeing your progress. By the way, your old engine looked terrific. Anyway good luck and Happy Thanksgiving.

What size tire you got on that CJ
Hey Charles. They are 35s. Check out my other Jeep updates on my channel.

@@JDOffline I thought so too BUT... the lift did have me install the drop pucks on the skid plate...maybe changed the angle or something?
