My depression took years from my life that I will never get back. With therapy, medication, meditation, and regular exercise I am finally starting to feel "normal" again.
This channel has been an immense source of hope and inspiration for me in the past year or so.
Thank you, Dylan.
I don't know how bad yours was, but besides medication, yes meditation, yoga, and doing daily cardio (it had to be either running or cycling; walking didn't do anything) really helped me! Also the daily exercise was really great for removing generalised anxiety too! If I go a week without any exercise it starts coming back again!
Hey I met Jackson, he’s a pretty righteous dude and glad he turned me onto your channel.
your thoughts on solitude resonated with me Dylan and I'm grateful that you spoke them ; seventeen years ago I wrote these words - Being at home gives me opportunity to read. I read for short periods of time and during spring and summer I thoroughly enjoyed The Kite Runner (the Afghanistan tragedies).
Another book I had the time to read slowly and enjoy was The Pleasures of God (by John Piper) reminding me again of the supremacy of God in all things, and the delight that I am to him. I am currently reading Sigurd Olson’s The Lonely Land, a true tale of white-water adventure by canoe down the Churchill river.
I also get to spend much time at home in solitude and silence, a topic that came up frequently in November; I enjoyed reading Henri Nouwen's book, The Way of the Heart, perhaps because I felt it ‘validated’ my new ‘monastic’ lifestyle: “Intuitively, we know that it is important to spend time in Solitude. We even start looking forward to this strange period of uselessness.” (H. Nouwen)
This was so nice- I’m remembering sailing basics from my childhood watching this. And alone time: most of my life, vans, mountains or just alone- there’s so much to achieve inwardly/outwardly alone!
Dylan, again, thank you. Don’t know if I’ll ever go to sea but I sail vicariously in each of your videos. I really appreciate your view on being alone. I have a very quiet place in the woods I can retreat to. Being the introvert that I am I need to go there to recharge on a regular basis. But what you said rings so true with me. Even if I am by myself it is still so difficult to completely unplug and listen to the great “nothing”. It is indeed a practiced art to get there. Thank you again for what you’re doing and for sharing it with us. I always enjoy and learn from your work.
Track playing in the accordeon is called "μενεξέδες και ζουμπούλια" ,"menexedes Ke zumpulia". In case anyone is interested😊
There was a certain calmness expressed in this solo sail by night that was so peaceful. Glad to see you're becoming one with your sailboat. ⚓
Dylan, you really have a way with words. Keep it up! You are becoming one of my favorite sailing channels.
The best ;)
Yeah, what a drama queen.
You sir are an inspiration! Brilliant video's bro! One love
Great video ,solo sailing ⛵️ a big challenge, Bravo .
yet again, sooo good! Thanks
Another fantastic video!
If you haven't done so , go and explore santorini, I have sailed there many times . You won't be disappointed
The marina you passed is good for a stop,
Keep them coming my friend! Glad to see that you're out of quarantine 🤘
Greetings from Thessaloniki!! We LOVE your Channel!
Nice video. Your strategies on single handing and other musings are well appreciated. Quality of content and production. You have a nice stylistic blend of sailing, travel and philosophic thought. Subscribed. I must check more of your work.
So Soothing. Most enjoyable as always! Thanks Dylan.
Amazing! Mesmerizing and what an achievement single handed sailing
Awesome, Fantastic, Congratulations, Dylan! Beautiful job! "Tacking...Tacking...Tacking..." After too many years of not sailing/crewing I sail vicariously through/with you. Big, Big Love back at ya!
Wow this makes me want to add sailing to my bucket list! Great job, you are such a storyteller.
Finally.... I was looking forward to see your video.
me too!
So good, your a huge inspiration for me man.
great video, again
I love solo sailing video’s. Cool to see how you are planning, boat handling and overcome the challenges in sailing. Hope to find more of this kind 👍
You’re my new favourite channel 🙏🏻 thank you
awesome video
great work solo sailing D! 😲
BIG LOVE
Sweet channel.... giddy up.
you are sailinng to santorini man, its like watching my dream on a video, thanks!
Great videos, Would you consider a video that details the monthly budget and expenses related to sailing and mooring?
very good Dy,, would be better tho if you could state how much it costs you to moor / anchor whatever
Nice video! What was the price/m2 for the mooring ball at Santorini?😁👍
As always, amazing! More importantly, are you still in the area of the earthquake, and if so are you and ship okay? Sending positive thoughts!
Hey, do you have any plans to sail the red sea to the Indian ocean?? You will probably like India, my Home country and also the beautiful Andaman and nicobar, lakshadweep islands and from there you can continue towards, thailand, Indonesia etc....
Some spectacular scenery. something about the way you edit your voice over is really conducive to the sort of deep thinking that you do on your videos. I was shocked to not see one mask in the entire video. Are there no cases in these locations?
Just curious....ever thought of replacing those bright white lights with red LEDs so you dont mess up your night vision?
What type of camera can make such a wonderful night shots?
Does anyone know the size of the sailboat....30ft ?
38ft
That being said "If you're not in a hurry" there's no reason you can't drop the sails and grab a chunk of sleep right?
how can i find yannis to mooring me as well?
But where did Tara go?
why did you not fly the main to make better time? could have reefed when over canvased.
Because I was single handing. I have to do everything at the mast for the main including reefing. So it’s safer and easier to just use the headsail for a sail like that and I was keeping a decent time with the Genoa.
@@Dylanmagaster. You were doing a trip I dream about and plannig to make someday on my own boat from California. I single hand a lot myself in some pretty rough waters. I saw the lazy jacks on your main (makes the dropping of the mail sail easy) and mentally noted that having a good reef in the main before leaving the dock would have made your boat bit speed better and safer. Running a jack line and clipping in are all part of safety at sea and are a great part of sailing solo or passage making with crew. I hope you continue to have great adventures, find new places of the world to explore and with good company to share it. Fair winds.
My bus is broken down in upstate ny but i met a beautiful girl and im insulating a cabin for her to get us thru the winter :) lmk if you need a sailing buddy ive got motor boat tubing experience :P
Modern society forces people to work their lives away. Work = stress, stress = unhappyness. So quite simply work makes people depressed and we are forced to work.
I mistook all the white buildings at the top of the island for snow... I gotta get outside my box....
i am french dermatologist and i can say that , on the right cheek you get a skin disease, whose name in France is Lupus chronique. you need to protect from sun very well.
not a good new for a sailor.
