Yeah I remember someone, it might have been Ian Wright, that said in training he was still the best player as well! Judging on the 98 World Cup I don't think there's any doubt we'd have gone close in the following years. If he'd been the job for some time he'd have got the best out of so many of the individual talents we had then. We wouldn't have had the whole Gerrard/Lampard thing and he'd have had the team picked around Scholes too I'd have thought.

Great shame that Glenn Hoddle didn’t continue as England manager. Having watched all England managers since Sir Alf Ramsey. Hoddle was the best England manager of the last 50 years. Innovative. A real student of the game, with a great philosophy about how football should be played. With Ferdinand playing in a 3, it would have revolutionised not only the England team, but also English football.

If Glenn Hoddle would have inherited the golden generation England would have been contenders for a trophy. He was a tactical master, and had the Italians in his pocket, out-playing them, when we played them on a few occassions - when the Italians were a good team. Instead Hoddle was set-up by a scab judas journalist - taking what he said out of context and who only cared about a few minutes of fame and furthering his journalist career instead of the progress of Hoddle's England team. The result was we went backwards under Erickson - they were Ferdinands words - Ferdinand also said Hoddle was ahead of his time. Hoddle was also one of the best philsophical footballers England has ever produced.

For some reason, i feel like England should've given Harry Redknapp a chance. I remember his spurs team with David Bentley, Luka Modric, etc. I think that was the revival of spurs in the modern era. He started it. The team was playing attractive attacking football, created many chances, challenged the big sides often. He might not be a coach who deploys complex systems like Guardiola or Klopp but he is top in the list of the basic system coaches. What I'm saying is Harry has a thing with coaching talented players and getting the best out of them something most england managers fail at. It's like they get brain buzzed on who to pick who to leave. Harry is always focused on attacking play, he is a risk taker. He'll put the best 11 out there, let them express themselves and put in a formation that favors them. He is bold af!

Rio Ferdinand was the best defender the premier league has seen and the best centre half the world has seen except for Baresi and Beckenbauer.
Ridiculous talent who's not appreciated enough.

This seems to always be the issue though, generational talent not utilized the way they should be and/or forced to conform to some sort of role that actually limits their God-given ability. It's happening now look at Grealish maybe what really needs to change is the profile of manager. Southgate is great for U21 but in terms of coaching great players and systems, he's not it.

Glenn had the potential to be a great manager but his climb to the top level perhaps happened too quick. He made mistakes that he could not afford that established great managers could. Getting rid of Parlour for the reasons he did wasn’t justifiable. Had Ferguson done it would have been acceptable. Hoddle ultimately lost his England job with the comments he made. Had Fergie done this he would not have been fired.

Maybe Hoddle could have got the best out of him if he wasn’t so focused on the sins of disabled people. Still don’t know how he was able to concentrate with so many “sinners” around the pitch. He’s an absolute disgrace. He has no place on TV or any other platform today.
