    Good information on chinking. Hope y'all are doing good. We are finally getting some cooler weather down here. Much needed relief from a hot summer. Love seeing an old cabin still providing shelter and someone who cares enough to keep it maintained so it will be around for many more years. Y'all have a Blessed Day Friends!

    I'm in the process of restoring my home which is 1937 built log cabin up in the Monteagle Tennessee area. I have a really good log restoration guy that helped me replace some of the rotted logs, & I'm about to start chinking myself. Everyone is "advising" me to use synthetic chinking, & I just don't see the benefit. For one, it would cost me about $5,000.00 in synthetic chinking alone! (My chink joints are about 5 inches wide on average) so for maybe $600 at most for the cement, sand, & lime, I can do this & it will be much better long term. I love watching your videos Jared! You are an inspiration!

    I stumbled upon your channel yesterday morning before I went to work.I love everything about it.I would love to get my hand on a old cabin like that but unfortunately it's not many old cabins in Alabama so I will have to build my own. I was wounding if you might help me out buy answering a few questions.What do you think is the best species of wood to harvest your logs form as for as rot resistant ,bug resistant and for longevity?I want to build a home that will be standing 200 years.My cabin I will be built after the old cabins like your with flat fancier boards and I want to build it as accurate as possible.How thick is your logs?I'm think about going with the dove tail notches on the coners in you opinion is that the best notch to keep moisture out of the would or do you prefer another notch?Like I said I love your channel.I love your cabin.I love the fact that your humble.But the thing I love the most about you channel is you reference the Lord.Faith can't work without Love.Love you Brother.

      Thank ya!! My logs are between 6 and 7 inches thick, not sure what trees y’all have in Alabama but my cabin is mostly poplar and pine with hemlock in bottom run, cedar lasts for ages, most importantly build it off the ground good, and good overhangs and dovetail botch I highly recommend

    I know y'all are already in the cabin but I was wondering if you had any video footage or suggestions on running the plumbing and electrical inside the cabin. We may build a flat log style house soon and I am not finding much on YT about the challenges of doing that where you don't have the benefit of the 2x4 walls to hide it in. Thanks for the videos.

    • @FlutyLickHomestead
      @FlutyLickHomestead  Před 5 lety +1

      Hello I don’t have any footage but can give you some advice. For the electric I ran many wires threw the cracks, also as you lay your logs up take a large drill bit and drill holes in the logs and you can pull wires up threw them into the cracks. All my plumbing in log part I came threw the floor. If you need plumbing in an upstairs of logs you’ll have to come up with some kind of wall to take them up threw.
