The Metacast Music Dudes is a monthly show where four friends get together and share music with one another. In each episode one person will introduce a musician or band they are a fan of but feel the rest of the group may have either overlooked. After presenting three songs to the group the other members will vote if they want to hear an ENCORE or if they have heard enough!

I'm so grateful, as a young woman, to see you four appreciating and supporting her music. Your commentary is truly lovely.
Just to make my own pitch here, if y'all like Julien, I highly recommend giving Frightened Rabbit a listen. I actually heard about Julien through them, in a way. She considers them a major inspiration and used to (not sure if she still does?) cover some of their songs at her shows. I found her while looking for live clips of Frightened Rabbit, and one of her covers came up. There was definitely a mutual admiration between them, too. After Scott Hutchison - their vocalist/main writer - died in 2018, the remaining members gathered several other close musician friends to record cover tracks for a tribute album that they put together as a sort of a send-off. They made sure to include her in that, which I think says a lot about the respect they had for each other.

seconded!! i was the reverse - got into frabbit through julien baker, and when tiny changes (the cover album) came out i put it on repeat for months. modern leper is so good, both the original and jb’s cover have such different vibes but they’re equally good. these was such great reactions, thanks for sharing!
I can really relate to a lot of what distance is saying. I have MS and having a chronic illness/disease that isn’t terminal but is degenerative and will eventually cause you to be reliant on your loved ones (for me, I already feel like I have to be too reliant on them)… it’s like, top tier impending doom. I’m emo af at heart so I’ve found a way to feel deeply while still retaining the capacity for joy, BUT at the same time, I go to every hardcore, metal, punk, (insert other heavy music genre name/genre blend here) show possible, just in case. I could wake up tomorrow and not be able to walk anymore and a hardcore show is just different from the sidelines. Anyway, I can’t remember if you guys talked about this on the show (I listened a few days ago) but if not, y’all might appreciate this cover:

I think you nailed it - I've discovered so much of life is accepting the struggles we all have while keeping a somewhat positive outlook. As long as we don't let the things life puts in front of us overwhelm us we are doing something right.
