  • Rehab and Revive Physical Therapy is based on hands-on physical therapy treatment. That being said, we don't use a whole lot of tech during the treatments. Dr. Lin's hands are used more than anything else. But we were curious, could a massage gun perform some of the techniques that Dr. Lin does?? Dr. Lin tries out the Achedaway Massage Gun on his shin splints to see just how effective it could be!

    One of my patients has a chronic SI jt sprain and the theragun with stabilization exercises are the key to maintaining his relief. Jt mob was provocative and this technique works well. I have tapered him to once monthly tx or post-exacerbation care.

    This popped up in my feed and I've been using a massage gun for about a year, so I thought I'd leave a comment. I'm an active runner and tennis player. When I first started using the massager, it was instantly game-changing because I was able to find and work out tons of knots in my legs and lower back. Since then, I use it more in "maintenance mode" when I have those sore areas developing, and I also use it to promote circulation to warm up before exercise or recover afterwards. So if you have muscle knots it can make a very quick, large improvement and otherwise it's helpful but doesn't provide any major changes or relief. Overall still very worthwhile and I use it regularly even after a year.

    I swear by the HyperX gun. My daughter had guillen barre syndrome and left her to deal with pain everyday of her life in the legs. I was spending over 350 a month on massager . Now she uses that and she is skiing and moving around and it has saved me so much money. I swear by the massage gun. dont go cheap. If you live with daily pain you need this.

    For someone who lifts weights most of the weeks I can say these are fantastic for relieving and reducing DOMS. Feels just fantastic. Apparently its the equivalent to 3 DT massages. You can reach most of your body yourself, and unlike a massage you can target exactly where it hurts with the intensity you want. Its not going to replace physicals therapists but it certainly allows more access to the benefits

    • @xylaahto
      @xylaahto Před 2 lety +1

      Not sure where you have got the comparison to 3 deep tissue massages from but I feel that is highly unlikely. What I would say in regards to DOMS is that it’s main function is to change sensation and reduce nociceptive input from DOMS (reduce pain), but the massage gun is highly unlikely to give circulatory benefits of massage. They can also good for pre-workout as it activates the sympathetic nervous system so would be good in a warm up routine.

      Hit the gym a couple of times every week (not just most weeks), and your days of worrying about DOMS will be but a distant memory. Well, maybe you'll still get a little DOMS occasionally when your training changes dramatically, but nothing worth mentioning.

I had issues with my left knee and paid $3500 for therapy. Therapy was good and I enjoyed it but my knee was still having issues. On Christmas morning, I took my Massage gun and push against the top of my knee (closer to my thigh area), and would you believe me my knee feels great! I just bought one of those massage guns for a weird pain I was having in my right shoulder and arm. Actually, the deep ache was worse when in bed. During the day, I didn't notice it so much. But now I've added using the massager to my neck/throat area to try and stimulate my thyroid gland. I'm a 78 year old male and about 30 lbs heavier than when in high school. Perhaps running away from the dinosaurs kept me thin back then. But diet and exercise haven't produced any permanent weight loss now so I figured as long as I have the massager I might as well give it a try. I'm on Day 1 now.

      @@Steven-jf8hq Oh, back in my high school days (1958-1962) the land was filled with T-Rex's. You had to move fast. Some got gobbled up quick and some just got stepped on. For the past ten years, I've been competing in the Senior Games in the shotput and discus events. I guess that put too much stress on my old shoulder joint and rotator cuff muscles. The massage gun hasn't done much good for my shoulder or my thyroid. I was hoping, though.

    • @STBRetired1
      @STBRetired1 Před rokem +1

      @ツJamila I have dropped about 4 lbs but I think that is due more to my recent restricted size portions at meals. I just had another sonogram of my thyroid as a checkup from last year for the polyps they found. I haven't gotten the results back yet. I used to think that I may be insulin resistant but as I look at my blood test results, I have a normal glucose level. I believe my thyroid hormones were normal, too. I think that over time I just started eating larger portions. I know I do that with ice cream. A half-gallon used to last me a week. Then it was two half-gallons per week. I remember when I was young, a two egg omelet was "big". More recently, I've been eating three egg omelets. That's when I knew I had to stop eating like that and start eating like I did when I was young and active. Now, I try to eat only when I'm hungry. I've also started drinking a diluted apple cider vinegar/lemon juice drink all day. That helps stop the false hunger feelings. It's going to take awhile. I gradually stretched my stomach larger over time and that gives me a false sense of hunger. Now I have to let my stomach shrink back down so a normal size meal is "filling".

      I agree with the side sleeping comment. If you sleep on your side with your arm stretched out to the front of you, you are overstretched your rotator cuff, rear dealt, and essentially all of those back muscles that stabilize the shoulder joint. You may also want to try strengthening your back muscles and stretching out your chest. I think these things may really help you!

    I have a several questions?
    1. How long time this massager continuously used for one man? (Frequency - 15 mins)
    2. May use a set/cycle wise to use?
    3. how many times this massager could used per day?
    3. Could I use this massager every day routinely?.
    4. Could cause any side effect for over time used?

    I want to get one of these guns but my pain points are all in my upper back, shoulders and neck. All due to sitting at a desk for 30 years. I don’t know how a person would use this device on themselves when dealing with the regions that I need to address.

      I stopped getting shin splint type issues and knee pain after I stopped landing on my heel, Harvard’s human running biomechanics website has some guidance around the benefits of mid-foot striking patterns. I had to go to flat shoes, not wedge shaped running shoes, which let me run 15 to 20 miles at a time without any discomfort, compared to pain after just a few miles all growing up in regular or pronation controlling running shoes.
