- Today we restore the badly rusted Pet 4032 AC Power Supply and reform the large (and expensive) filter capacitor.
I WANT TO THANK MY Patrons! The ticker I had doesn't work in the new editor and I ran out of time before I have to get on a plane!
This is my first video using DaVinci Resolve so its a bit rough but I think this will be much better in the long run. I cannot justify continuing to pay Adobe $600 per year for buggy software that I cannot afford.

I'm also in process of restoration of one chiclet PET 2001. So far found burned CPU, one PIA, 4 logic IC's in video part, one video RAM, voltage regulator in monitor, one transistor and one resistor. Changed caps in monitor. Using PET ROM/RAM board finally got it working, now it's time to find which RAM IC's are burned, fix ROM's, there is issue with IEEE port, some rust on case, deal with burning dot on monitor... fun project... forgot to say that socketed were only CPU, ROM, video ROM, CIA and PIA's, rest is/was soldered to PCB.
Good luck with yours! :D
That sounds like a really amazing project. I'd love to hear how the ROM burning goes! All my socketed ICs had rusted through pins including all 5 40-pin ics and the BASIC ROM. I have spares for everything except the 6520s and the ROM.
VERY glad to see another Video out particularly on the PET where I have little experience with in repairing. I want to tackle my PET 8032 at some point (esp. After removing any RIFA Cap(s) lol. -Mark.
Heya Mark! Fortunately the Rifa caps are in the IEC connector so its an easy swap.
Fantastic! Love seeing the progress. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Racer X!
Awesome video! Really got me motivated to get going on my restoration of a similarly “well aged” 4032.
Hey Joel, It is s fun project. I hope yours goes well!
Excellent video and work!! Looking forward to your next video and seeing the PET boot up. Figures Sean would give you a big challenge but it will be awesome once done. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Rudy! It's a blast so far. I expect that mainboard is going to take a lot but at least it solders easily once the cruft is removed!
@RavenWolf Retro Tech BTW, I have shipped the missing PET key to Sean. So see him when you can.
Critical business! The wife bought me a cruise in the Caribbean so she can get some winter sunshine. My mom is with us but don't tell them i brought a bunch of notes and a binder for research and script planning 🤪
Lol it's a running gag so she would laugh if she saw it. She is a Santa Barbara girl living in Oregon so some winter sunshine is crucial. She is subbed... she starts watching each video then usually gets a cup of coffee while it plays 😁
Excellent video, and good progress. I did not know about cap reforming...!
Thanks Tim. It was a learning experience which is my favorite kind. 😁

Hi Mike, awesome work on your PET so far! I am restoring a Pet 4032 that received with a broken crt neck… (thks shipping guy). Do you have any idea where I could find a replacement crt for it? Or any compatible crt I could use?
Hey Daniel, I've tried to respond a couple times but I've had almost no internets 🤪 I'm far from a crt expert but I'd suggest checking on the vcf forums. I've read some great threads there taking about crt swaps. My skills are in the digital realm.
@@RavenWolfRetroTech thanks Mike, I’ll take a look.
