In today's video we're taking some CD's and trying out a few different things with them. Can you make cool art with them? What happens when you put them in a microwave? Can you blow bubbles with them? Can you make a DIY hovercraft? Is there a way to fix a scratched CD?

"obsolete technology"
me: looks a giant CD collection.... cries a little.
Ye. I have like 100 of my dads. He gave them to me years ago and I've been expanding ever since
don't worry, they might make a comeback, after all records are making one!
@@dissodatore No, "records" as you call it, is not making a comeback. And it's better if you say 'Vinyl', cos technically, even a CD is a record, it comes from the word 'recording', you know. But neither format is making a comeback, and the upswing noticed for Vinyl, is cos millenial hipsters deemed it as cool, while people like me, almost grew up with all formats. Cos technically, the cassette came out before I was born, I believe, pretty sure it did. But cassettes and Vinyl, were both a thing, when I started getting into music, and I still have kept my original cassettes and Vinyl, that survived. (Cos vinyl was a bit fragile, to say the least.) But when CD's came out, I preferred that. So obviously, I have more CD's (About 100+) than Vinyl, (About 5 Albums) and cassettes. (About 20 cassettes) I actually have the original cassette (AKA Tape.) of the original first album of Rick Astley, featuring 'Never Gonna Give You Up", lololololol. (Does that count as a "rickroll"?) 😆
@@JarodMoonchild1975, I'm calling them 'records' in deference to the machine that plays them being called a 'record player'.

What's up with this? They're talking about CDs in this video like they're 8-track cassettes or something. I mean, sure, CDs are declining in popularity, due to the rise of streaming services, but they're hardly obsolete. Plenty of people still listen to them, especially in cars (pretty much anyone who doesn't have a car new enough to have a Bluetooth stereo, and many people who do have one, too).
CALLIE I LOVE KINGDOM HEARTS!!! YAYYYYYY !! I saw a CD with a heartless symbol on it and I got so excited so I wrote this for you! ❤️ love ya Callie

more like "reverse building"

Now that was fun loved how you pulled the metal coating off the CD's, I tried blowing bubbles last year with them and that's where I went wrong, leaving the coating on.
You talk about CDs, like they would be a relict of ancient times?!
scar89 hello
In technology years, they are.
@@abbi1349 they sound better than mp3 though

Everyone’s so angry about them calling CDs obsolete when we could be talking about the beautiful flower Calli made.
Yes, it's really pretty
That is a beautiful flower.
I'm just not mad because at least they were destroying stuff that's still being made.
And her "DI-Why would you do that?" comment! 😂
I LOVE the rose. It looks super SUPER cool
The bubbles and CD in the microwave were the coolest! 😎
"pull the data off of them" Do you even know how to burn a CD....?
No tell me
It is possible to recovery cd's fyi :3 and to reburn them after all data has been recovered
But yes quite litterally they have pulled the data off "the data layer"
@@michaeldesmyther8768 Incorrect. The Data layer is sandwiched between two Polycarbonates. All they pulled off was the Label and the Reflective material.
Burn = putting data on the CD. Ripping = pulling data off.
HOW are Cd's DVD's obsolete when I still use plenty of them?
Jason Larson hi
Obsolete doesn't mean unusable and new doesn't always mean better.

Callie: Hey that’s a Diskman
No a walkman used cassette a discman used CD's you're wrong calli is right
Side note, Walkmans are now mp3 players.
Callie is correct. "Walkman" was Sony's portable cassette player. "Discman" was their portable CD player. Note that both were product names of Sony products specifically, and not the category of technology, either. Kinda like how not all tissues are Kleenex, and not all box mac 'n cheese is Kraft Dinner.

Just some thoughts for part two:
1) It would be interesting to see what you could do with the salvaged holographic film.
2) A heat gun and air compressor would be cool for the bubbles.
3) "Lamp working" plastic.
4) CDs VS solvents.
i still use cds to this day, theres something special about having a physical thing for your music, and people thank me when the internets out

The CD bubble thing is how they make Kroger bags lol
I like how the radio/CD player just says "nO"
So, I know this is an older video but I've watched three times and I just remembered a story to do with DVD's (or CD's).
When I was younger, my dad used to put lots of things on DVD's, like recordings, music, films, etc. but I never knew how. All I saw was him writing the names on then and voila! Whatever was on there started playing in the CD player, DVD player or whatever he used depending what was on the disk. So, for years I thought all you had to do was write what you wanted on the disk and it would work. Genuinely.
I still love CDs. I always ask for certain ones each year for Christmas.
Don't judge me but I prefer CDs and DVDs
I just like solid material
I have about 3-4 hundred DVDs in my closet and I still watch them
I won’t judge I have franklin d Roosevelt’s inauguration on a record. Along with Glenn Miller
I agree 100% when you have an actual physical copy you don't lose it. When you buy stuff now days where you download a copy you always don't have it a couple years later... like the computer or device you had it on breaks or you downloaded it on a subscription to something you are no longer subscribed to... having an actual physical object is so much better.
I still use cds how else am I gonna play games or watch movies when the internet goes out or completely dies because of a glitch or massive problem.
I'm going to have to do this in my glass blowing studio and make a video of what happens.
