- We're making holographic gemstones that remind me of opals using a CD and a plastic bottle! They will look good in many projects - whether you want to use them for costumes, decorations or jewelry.
0:00 Intro and Materials
0:14 Difference DVDs / CDs
1:15 Plastic Bottle Dome
1:58 Smooth vs. Textured
2:42 Gemstone Setting
3:37 Paint
4:05 Droggo the Space Dragon Egg
I've already made all kinds of gemstones using plastic bottles, but these ones might be my new favorite. How can you not love rainbows captured in a gem?
I will show you the difference between CDs and DVDs for crafting and how to cut CDs without them breaking. We will also create settings for the gemstones using yarn.
These gemstones require no resin, no hot glue and no other fancy materials or tools, since it's my mission to deliver budget-friendly craft ideas ;)
Also, the gems are recycled! Eco-friendly, cheap and bling. What more do you want? :D

Love the inspection of the bottle bottoms 😂😂
Hehe, true story 😆😆
^got me to subscribe for that alone. The creator's videos are great, regardless.
WOW! What would also be cool is to paint the pupil of a dragon or tiger on top of the dvd to make it into a scary eyeball! Great for top of spell books and other journaling.
Totally! Nice idea 😉
Your wonderful humor is one thing, besides your ideas, that keeps bringing your videos to my screen! Thank you for giving me a good chuckle!
Thanks for appreciating my silly humor! 😁
I have been looking for a way to make gemstones without resin or buying stuff...this is absolutetly genius and costs only an old CD and maybe a beloved pfandflasche. Great tutorial, thank you!
I'm really glad you like it! It's fun to craft with things you have at home 😉
I always love your creative ideas!!
Thank you! ☺️
This is really ingenious! Beautiful work at a fraction of the price! THANK YOU for sharing these ideas. 💙💚💜😊👍
You're very welcome 🤗 It's nice to hear that you like it! 🌈🧡
2:02 the different disc colors are the difference between a real disc and a fake/burned disc, if you want the blue ones, just buy some cd's and put something on it, they will turn blue (at least 10 years ago that was the case)
Oh that's really good to know! Now I want to burn some CDs, hehe
Very clever way to recycle old CDs
Thank you! :)
My goodness, you're so darn clever!
Aw thank you! ☺️
Excellent---Thank You!!!

¡Gracias!
¡Gracias, me alegro!
so beautiful and unique
Thank you very much!
Love this. Love "May Unicorns fart rainbows all over your day" LOL.
Hehe I hope the unicorns feel very farty for you today! 😆

Gracias! De nada! ☺️
Very clever
Thank you! :)
Thank You.
You're very welcome! 😊
I got the same look at the home improvement store when I was looking at piping for pet toys. 😂 (Ma'am, do you need help with that? "No, just trying to find a size my rat isn't too fat for." 😅
Haha, I bet they didn't expect that 😆

Muito obrigada! :)
Wow genial ❤ and you make me laugh a lot😂
I'm glad I could make you laugh 😉
Cd's are easier to cut if you dip them in a pan of very hot, almost boiling water, for about 3 to 5 minutes then cut them while still very warm. They usually wont split or crack while cutting them. If you see the CD start to warp in the very hot water, dont leave them in quite as long.
Thanks for the tip!
@@Randomona You're welcome!
Cool
Thank you!
Marvelous method, I'm certainly going to try this!
I've got my own method for fake gemstones, which includes aluminiumfoil (the shiny side) and blue glasspaint.
If you crinkle the aluminiumfoil beforehand (and flatten it out again) you get a disco-effect. I use aquarium-stones and clear glue to make them into gemstones that way.
Bytheway, I noticed the glue was German, but your accent sounds a tiny bit like Dutch. Are you German or Danish, perhaps?
That's an interesting technique, I like it!
Yes I speak German, I'm from Austria :)
I think your way works better...not as fiddly! Ty for sharing!
Beste Stelle: 1:21 🤣
Danke, freut mich dass ich dir was Neues zeigen konnte 😁
Haha, ist mir genauso passiert 😆
How do I make the swirl and inwards ones? Can you do a tutorial for that to? I understand if you can't I'm just asking 🥰
If you have blank CDs or blank DVDs of any size or shape, don't destroy them. Send them to me. I still use them. Also, if you have any RETAIL movies, TV shows, or music videos on VCD or DVD, send them to me as well. Please don't destroy them or throw them away! I will put them to use.
2:07 I can relate
Hehe 😆
Would the transparent hot glue method from your later video work on the DVD, or would the plastic melt and ruin the holographic effect?
I like that you're thinking outside the box! Unfortunately I have tried it a long time ago and it didn't melt the plastic, but the holographic effect kind of went away and I was just left with a silver effect. So I dont think it works.
@@Randomona ahh too bad, I thought something like that might happen. I really like the holographic effect from the discs, but do these plastic bottle gems hold up to wear and tear, or do they need to be treated delicately?
They are not super delicate, they can take some pressure and if they don't get scratched violently on a regular basis, I think they're fine :)
😃😍
😄
I tried this craft but cutting the bottle was very hard to cut. Is there an easier way to cut the bottle?
I noticed that some bottles are harder than others - you can try finding a bottle made out of very thin plastic :) or try a different part of the bottle
@@Randomona Very difficult even with thinner bottles! And very sharp scissors!
White glue works too??
Amazing video by the way!
White glue works too, yes :) Thank you!
@@Randomona thank you.
Wow❤ how do you come up with all these projects?😢
I think about it a lot ☺️
Nice video, I like it i joined you, stay connected💖
Thank you very much! Yes ❤️
i really love your vedios creative and inspiering can i get a heart plz ? thankyou :)
Thank you! Of course 😁

🙂🌟🌟🌟🌟🏅👍🏻
🙏😊
Hm.... I'll bet you can take the foil from the broken CDs and cut it up into small pieces, then stuff a bunch into the bottle bottom and fill it with glue.
Worth a try! :)
Hahaha
you have angel's hand's
Oh that's very sweet, thank you! :)
