Not only the machine, but the set ups you put are amazing
this thing has a wonderful tone.. liked it most on the drums and base . but as mentioned before... keeping the level the same is very important to judge what the compressor really does.
That quarter sawn white oak dovetail box tho
What ever happened to the art of leveling of dry/wet signals?
It is very annoying and makes comparison difficult at best.
The bass one was an outrageous improvement! 👏💯
Sounds Magic!
Thank you very much Dr Mix that was awesome
Bro! 😂😂😂 I thought he was about to kick a verse over the beat at 4:03 😭💀😩 #OOOOH
thanks! what a great review!
I actually liked what the limiter did to the drums, especially the kick drum, would love to hear more
Hard to tell if it sounds better because it’s louder, but it’s Neve so I know it’s better sounding and louder. I say it’s “twenty-two fifty-four”
Just the same problem like in all of your videos, you need to GAIN MATCH the A/B, otherwise the louder part sounds ALWAYS better!
Sounds great!
Lindell 254E plugin sounds very similar, but still far away from original prototype.
The waves v comp plug in sounds very close but looks nothing like it (on purpose)
Amazing, I wonder if the URS compressor/limiter was an emulation of these units.
Very good. Cool 👍👍👍
The actual best master bus compressor
It's very easy to hear how gorgeous it sounds, even with the levels not matched perfectly. The sound is in the knee. You did make an adjustment that 1:23 that helped with levels though not quite a volume match. As you noted, compressor sound has tons of character compared to the limiter, so that's a good way to hear what it's doing to the sound. After watching a few of your videos with expensive gear, I'd like to hear some comparisons with less expensive analog gear. Do we just love analog, or are these instruments that much better? Hm.
yes cause the depth body and clarity :-)
Yeah sounded pretty buttery when i gainstaged it right:) and hard af at drums, would probably fit in rap beats
Tom Lord-Alge loves it on snare
When I first started in studios we had loads of those. Where did they all go?
Hi, can you pleeeaase use this first song on other gear aswell like the Zener? 🙏🙏🙏👊😎
Fing beautiful
Lol, so "the limiter just limmits" what a discovery
The limiter has a harder knee than the compressor also they happen simultaneously and then the sum comes out the exit that’s why this thing sounds so damn good
Nothing like Neve man...
Wow!!! This has a real sound of 70's!!
Take to museum
TWENTY-TWO FITTY-FO!
What is that classical song you put through the compressor? I need to get it
Chopin - Waltz L'adieu Op.69 No.1
Why does the stereo field change?
what is the classical song ?? Chopin.. ? title pls
Pretty hard to tell without the levels matched
Do you really cannot hear the difference?! Come on!
The compressor in definitely sounds louder, but its hard to hear what its doing with the dynamics until the levels are matched
Level doesn't matter because they sounded totally different.
You should hear the color not the dynamics...
+1 this would be really nice
That’s unbelievable. Where’s UAD with the plugin...?
I wonder how it sounds on vocals.
Newman Sibisi the 54 sounds amazing on vocals! It’s one of my favorite compressors. So tight and round in the bottom end
How much?
DUDE: LUFS NORMALIZE THE DIFFERENT CLIPS LOL.
AML EZ 54F50
Whats the difference between neve 2254 vs 2264? Anyone?
who has the circuit diagram
AML EZ
Twenty-Two Fifty-Four
v-comp
Double two Double five, minus one
how much is it!?i want to buy
li banx 10k
You can find the reissued version today. It's not a stereo unit, just a one rack mono but you can strap two together. Look up 2254R
I can hear what it's doing, but can't see!
double two five four... 3,2,1
To my experience there's a lot of cult and myth about compressors. So let my add my "cult", Being a Bass player theres's one favourite compressor which make helps to make a Bass (even a 5-string) loud without making it boomy: The good old DBX 163, see dbxpro.com/en/products/163 --- and it just had one slider, so even the drunk local "sound engineer" could use it. Source: 20 years of on stage experience.
just level up..
man...drive it !
" Yeaah brooo level match this shit coz we can't really hear if the 2254 is worth!! Ooh, what a waste of my 6.41 that was, oh nooo!!!! "
If mixing was all about level matching, then a finished mix would be as loud as your SM58 output :-) I think people should learn to hear past level changes, otherwise you’re in a constant state of scientific testing, instead of mixing! And besides if you’re going to crank down on that L2 anyway at the end of the mix, thrn you might use a nice piece of gear like this to get some level going!!!
@@Doctormix Of course brother, I was just making fun of the level matching comments ha ha
Listen out for the tone, not levels. Train the ears for hearing harmonics, saturation, and all that good stuff 😉
It's just a shame the fastest recovery is 400ms, that's pretty much the slowest I would go. The 800ms and 1500ms are pretty much unsuable, I wish they had 100ms and 200ms like the 33609 has.
Macht meine Radio vom Aldi auch...
Nice compressor with very impressive character just by passing through the sound.
However, a stereo image of sound is disturbed. It is a device with large individual difference.
Not particularly interested in the limiter module, a software limiter is better as usual.
and you forgot to match the in-out levels... (aka fooling yourself)
wrong way to use
and the kick sound distortion all the time
This compressor is fool proof all the settings sound good just don’t clip it cuz it doesn’t forgive when u do go on the red
Actually, after you used it I see why one would NOT want to use it on classical, especially piano.
i pronounce it 2254
Cool dumb... Happy ?
gain match or no point
Gain match ever?
First of all what you should have done is proper gain (level) matching!
To all concerned about levels: even if they were correct, your plugins will still sound shit.
Millmoor Michael whats your problem bro ? really
Enis Duman Problem? Just stating the obvious.
@Afrom ham, You have to factor in that most top mix engineers are using source material that's been recorded on consoles. So even if they do "mix" with plugins, you most likely won't get the same results sonically as the Pros unless your source material has also been summoned on analog gear. Not to mention the final product that you'll end up hearing (Album, radio, youtube, etc...) will be that of the mastering engineer who will most likely end up using a few analog pieces even if the person who mixed it didn't.
ima be real with you bro you are probably a miserably bad engineer
levels not matched
Oh you noticed.
perhaps THE SINGLE WORST ever demo of a comp. useless first track with no dynamics, classical is meaningless volume addition, the drums are just distorted and the rest is just a waste of space. it's all just level enhancement .... total rubbish-10
come'on guys .. any free plugin do exactly the same ! ... it's just hipster toy !
Lol
