I remember when Clement was the Sonic review guy, now its kinda amusing that most of the newest fans know him as the Final Fantasy or Street Fighter retrospective guy due to how those videos blew in popularity. Good for him being known for more things.
And before he was known for Sonic, it was Mega Man
@@BH-98 Yeah it's kinda awesome that fans have different starting points. Shows how well Clement does with different franchises and interests.
@@BH-98 Back in the day, he was the go to for Sonic playthroughs. Still, I adore his newer videos.
Street Fighter? I literally do not remember that one...
@TheRezro dropped last year
34:30. Dion Bahamut is one of 3 entities in Square Enix history to perform Zettaflare. Him, Donald Duck, and Airy from Bravely Default.
Ah yes, the infamous King of Drakes, savior and destroyer of empires, destroyer of worlds... the eternal font of power that is Donald Duck.
So glad to hear from you again, Clement! Hope the schedule’s going okay, take care of yourself!
Clement, I agree this game is dark, but point is that even if life gets dark, life is still something to fight and live for. Both Clive and Jill started game wanting to die. Clive especially at the end has a total shift in character and decides to live to fight for his loved ones. I'm surprised you didn't talk about Ultima, he's a great villain.
Final Fantasy 16 end message is a positive one.
I played all the side quests and that one with the wine bottle was the only one I absolutely hated.
I find the game has some similar themes to Berserk to some regard. At least the themes of finding light in a seemingly dark and desolate world and conquering the trauma and scars of one's past.
@@FunnyMonkey781 Excellent comparison! Anyway, game is not Grim Dark. It is Noble Dark.
It really bring my memory of Final Fantasy IV, FF VI and FFVII.
I liked that side quest because everything was so dark.
@@FunnyMonkey781 An apt comparison. People compare this game to Game of Thrones, but i believe Berserk to be more similar in nature. However, Berserk is way more dark and intense.
Lord, the voice acting in this game is freaking fantastic.
It's not as good as Witcher 3 or yakuza 0
@@frogglen6350 I've never played either of them, but I've heard only good things about them.
@@frogglen6350all of them are phenomenal fuck you gotta compare for
@@frogglen6350 In what way?
@@frogglen6350well I agree that Yakuza 0’s voice acting is some of the best the industry has ever produced, but 16’s is pretty good too
And now the final fantasy retrospective continues.
Honestly bro I was hoping this would come out after all the DLC was finished but I'm just glad to be able to sit back with another "Remember Final Fantasy" video of yours, this time under a new name but with the same damn energy. That Clement. I commented on your other video but no pressure bro. Get the videos out as you can. I've rewatched all your FF retrospectives and pretty much all your retrospectives because of how they do EXACTLY as they should. Go thru the story first for context, then break down everything else after. Its some of the best and I'm thankful I found your channel while lookin for Pixel Remaster reviews to see if i should get it or not. One of my favorite finds. Love you bro. Keep it safe and give yourself grace.
There is one complaint I have regarding the "voice acting" in the game (spoilers, obvs)
It's the scene where Clive and Anabella meet in Sanbreque. The reason I say "voice acting"... is because it's not really Anabella's actress at fault. The problem is that I felt a mismatch between how she was performing the scene and how the animation was portraying her. I just felt like a disconnect between the two. That being said, everything out of Clive's mouth in that scene is 24k gold
I don't think you realia how far you've come Clement. Your Sonic 06 review allowed you to realize what was important. You value life and your taking the steps to be better. I'm proud of you.
Oh the timing, I was just binging your videos ironically. Great work, Mate!!!
Same lol.
I actually enjoyed the side quests. Yes, they weren't really well integrated into the gameplay, but they were short and provided great world building.
The major fights were so intense I physically felt drained after each major plot point. The side quests were a great way to break away from that and frame Clives journey within the context of the world.
Sure, when looking at the total count of side quests it seems like a lot, but there were only two points in the game where I felt like I was doing more than a handful at a time.
I think enjoyment of this game really comes down to what you're looking for. If you're more invested in the gameplay bit, then you're far less likely to enjoy it. If you're more invested in the story, then you may just love it, including even the side quests.
I just finished this one yesterday! Overall I was blown away multiple times throughout this game, after the titan fight I wondered “how are they going to top this?” Then you went to SPACE. I do think the game kinda loses some momentum towards the end, mainly because I indulged a little much in the sidequests to upgrade my abilities. I really loved the game still, 9/10 and my game of the year.
This was well worth the wait. Another well crafted Final Fantasy video done!
Goad to see you're back to doing retrospectives. It's actuslly shocking how short this video is compared to most you've done since FFVII.
The Great Clement has graced us once more
Clement released a new video
Jack: Bulls**t
(Walks away as “I am the Eggman theme plays)
I really liked this game, I give it a solid 8/10. I'm not sure if others are the same, but as much as I like the game I found myself liking the main cast of 15 more than the main cast of 16 (except for Joshua and Clive).
It’s hard not to prefer the bros on a road trip vibe of 15 but I prefer Clive as a main character
I love this vid but I love that we still have the not a charge shot bit as well. Love it!!!
Love your final fantasy videos. I promise I will watch it as soon as I finish 16 lmao
You've come so far, I remember finding you talking about Sonic Rivals of all things back in the day.
The timing couldn't be funnier. I was literally going to watch some of the older videos in the Final Fantasy playlist when this entered my sub notifications.
These Retrospectives are the reason I love your channel so much dude. That and the Tekken video of course lol😊
Would love to hear you talk about even more FF games. There's something about your retrospectives that are so perfect it's hard to put into words. I have probably revisited every retrospective about 20 times by now and I'm sure that will be the case with this one too.
Great video, clement, and the audio sounds really good!
Great review and i hope you do a Remembers 16 at some point. I love your analysis of the entire FF plots.
Aloha, Clement! Welcome back. Sorry you've been having an rough time last year. Hopefully things will pick back up this year.
Man just comment about the video lol he don’t know you
This was the best video on the game. I hope the lack of views doesnt dicourage you (im shocked to come back and see so few), more Clement analysis!
I’ve gotten into this series because of your taken lore video and im about to scream cause I wasn’t sure when you’ll do this game
THANK GOD SOMEONE SAID IT! Yes Clement I thought the Eikon battles went too long also!
People like you hate fun
The Final Fantasy 16 review we’ve all been waiting for.
I've been waiting for this, thank you sir
Soken did the music so well, I had to hunt down the collector's edition soundtrack for the bonus tracks. Sadly the songs he used in the Awakening trailer were not in the soundtrack.
It haunts me....
Watched this when you posted a couple weeks ago, went back through and rewatched your FF videos starting with VII and rewatched this one - great videos especially while I work. I am slogging through FF mode now to get the platinum before Rebirth. Everything was fantastic on my first play through, not having any idea what was going to happen, how epic the fights were going to be, making sure I didn’t miss any side quests and in this FF play through it’s just skip skip skip, fight, skip skip skip lol
Sticking to your goals proud of you bro
Clement you did a great job with this video expressing your opinions on XVI and honestly mine are quite similar to yours. I like XVI for what it was trying to be but I do wish they did borrow a couple of things from previous FF games to make it even better. That said though, man did I enjoy my experience with XVI quite a bit especially at launch as I was wanting a PS5 just for this game and at least to me it was worth the wait with how hectic the first few years of getting a PS5 were. I can’t wait to see how this series evolves from this and VII Remake. I’ve been watching your videos for about 4 years now with the Retrospective and as a newer fan of the series I would always watch them immediately after finishing one of older games
I know that was a long comment but seriously thanks for making all of these FF video’s throughout the years they made me get into the series more
Took me forever to find the channel was searching Final fantasy retrospective and YT won't show thisss
Soken delivered like I could never imagine, the climax being the Dion encounter
glad ur doing well clement been here since '12!
The dark material in 16, just makes the reality pop. Given how everything operates and the power being thrown around, it just makes sense. Hell our reality is absolutely bleak, if you peal back all the “barriers”. I’m not trying to be a downer, but Iv done a lot of traveling.
16 is a game with stupidly high highs but also contrastingly very deep lows.
1 moment you fighting a giant Eikon in a spectacle battle, the other moment you are doing yet another very semi sidequest or killing the same enemy for the 100th of time.
So my personal opinion. Final Fantasy XVI take position of Best Final Fantasy Game Ever Made, and that include already excellent remake of Final Fantasy7! They hit all things I actually expected from franchise. Good drama, intense plot and high involvement of godlike Summons. This game is F amazing!
Yay, a new Clement video. You're sounding good, and that's great
I literally finished another rewatch of your Final Fantasy retrospective yesterday… this timing is weirdly perfect.
This was a great video I agree with a lot of your points. Although I feel like you could have talked more about the games main antagonist perhaps it was to avoid spoilers which is fair. Personally I enjoyed the side quests, although I will agree that what you do in those side quests is boring but I enjoyed the world building. Plus perhaps since I played the entire Trails series those games have conditioned me to enjoy that type of content. That series lives and dies by its world building and this is only one game where Trails is 10 and they are all interconnected and one side quest in game 2 could have a quest that continues in game 6 or from 1-10. All in all if people say they don’t like the side quests in FFXVI I agree they could be more engaging.
Yes, i am that person, I like dark themes. We should tackle dark thrmes. Also, most of us grew up with/playing ff games. Late born community really has to understand these themes happen all around the world everyday. Everything can't light hearted all the time. Contrastingly, every theme can't always be dark. Like a see saw, both are necessary within a ff game or every other ff game.
Hearing you talk about this game really makes me want to play it. You're killing it Clement.
Today the retrospective continues, today is a good day 😌
A few things I would like to say. 1) when you go through and tell everyone kupka is dead, you're doing so because they attacked the hold hideout and traumatized everyone. Especially blackthorn who hails from Dhalmekia. 2) The game is more action oriented because they want that distinction between 7 remake and this with one being more rpg more true to the og ff and this is more action oriented and its own thing. I can see if people dont like that but I personally prefer having 2 very seperate very different experiences releasing around the same time.
I'm so proud of you man. Can't wait to watch it later after I finally beat the game myself. This only gives me more motivation to do that.
Great review, we need more of those for 16. The only thing I disagree is the sidequests. Some of them are really good and give you more context for the ending
Another great video from the Great Clement
Final Fantasy XVI = Solo Leveling
i agree skip most of the side quest BUT DON'T SKIP THE SIDE QUESTS NEAR THE END, it give you different interpretation the the post credit scene who wrote the book ???
ALSO they may change the ending, with the Leviathan DLC When Clive get all the eikon...
I'M HOPING FOR CLIVE X JILL HAPPY ENDING 😉
Don't think we didn't notice you skipped Stranger of Paradise. You have to complete the circle and bring it back to 1.
Wonderful analysis of the basis on FF16. I love the game to death but I'm still torn on how they made a game with this many side quests without thinking they could trim the fat. This is the same team that's had to rework FF14 into being easier to digest for newer players but I suppose old habits old hard. I love and have cosplayed as Clive and while I understand the qualms with the "bring up and never elaborate" writing that is Jill/Anabella/etc's writing, I'm still pretty in love with the rest of the game's writing to sort of sideline it. That said I do agree that I don't like how that's the path they took with it, but other people have pointed out how the writer of FF14 Heavensward has this oddly peculiar way of writing women that could've been better had it been handled by somebody else. Still though it's an amazing game held back by some impossible to avoid flaws
Clement, I don't mind spoilers since this game isn't coming to PC for over a year and it's impossible to go silent for such a long time waiting on a PC release because people will just out of nowhere anywhere can spoil a big moment.
I don't mind just watching this anyway since been watching your videos since 2010.
Man... You. I just love your content. That is all.. Keep it up man. You're awesome.
At this point, I'd pay some pretty good money for Clement to do a 1.5-2 hr long video on his top 10 mainline Final Fantasy games.
Great work Clement! Hope you're enjoying Rebirth.
Another great FF video, Clement! I can’t wait for you to cover FF7 Rebirth!
WHOO CLEMENT’S BACK!!
You should never skip any side quests in this game.
I got the ps5 specifically for ff16. I loved many parts of it and like most of It. It's a solid 8 out of 10 for me
Also I love how Clement voiced my grievances with XVI compared to VII remake. The gameplay in VII remake was so much more dynamic and rewarding.
Hard disagree. The combo system in 16 is much more rewarding (at least to me) than 7 remake. Not to say that 7R's combat was bad, but I found more enjoyment in combining combo strings and eikon abilities than being unable to do anything but mash square until a bar fills.
@@ShermTank7272 oh please saying 7R combat is button mashy is like saying Sonic Unleashed day stages are “boost to win” until I watch those same people play the stages and push every button on the controller or they’re complaining that it’s the hardest sonic game every made. There’s no way in hell you got through every battle and every boss fight just by mashing Square until the stagger gauge fills. Cut it out.
Both are amazing in different ways. One is not better than the other, though. "Cut it out."
@@brycetheoddball I'll commend FF7R's combat for its variety and challenge, but as an action game it felt clunky and unresponsive at times. Some specific grievances I have are the Rufus fight and Hell House where it feels I have to take damage and attacking just feels off because of how punishing and instantly the enemy can snap to animations and negate my actions. Not to mention flying enemies just not being a good experience at all to fight.
I'm not a master at the game, I'm sure there's some obscure solution to every problem but I'd prefer the base moveset to not feel so clunky.
@@clintwaki6936 For Rufus, just build up atb, use triple slash on the dog to separate them, kill the dog first, then for Rufus when he’s reloading, hit him with Braver to stagger him automatically. With Hell house use triple slash as soon as the third of all three Tonberries drop to kill them quickly, block against the flying chairs, have proper element materia for weaknesses for whatever mode the house is in (fire, ice, wind, lightning) and keep cure on Cloud and Aerith
I thought that it was well known that standard Final Fantasy was going to be action oriented. While I haven't enjoyed the JRPG/hack and slash middle ground of previous games, I have come to accept that this is the default from now on, and I'll have the classics to go back to, which Square has been pretty good at re-releasing in recent years. At the same time, though, XVI does look really cool that I want to get a PS5 for.
I must say that. Final Fantasy IV become famous because death of protagonists was something new back then. Final Fantasy VI already have theme of Ekspres, while having amazing powers being doomed. And Final Fantasy 7 environmental message being bleak. Final Fantasy XVI was somewhat culmination of those themes. So we can't say that this game is exception, more that it was not limited by expectations of the medium. I understand your concern, but for my that is what FF was always about!
Great video Clement.
I thought you were done with the final fantasy retrospective. Welcomed surprise!
My feelings ebb and flow as time goes by. I really like it in the moment when I played it, but after finishing it sometimes I get sour, sometimes I smile thinking about it. The Kaiju fights are definitely why I signed up for it and while I do agree some of it can get long, they're still my highlight. I like the gameplay just fine. I had to remap the buttons Dark Souls style because my thumbs physically hurt in very not okay ways after intense button mashings, but I liked the momentum a lot. I must say I prefer 16's gameplay than 7R's, but I do agree that 16 could adopt the complexity 7R's gameplay has. My main problem is on Ultima as a final boss, I don't find him as compelling. His fights are easy compared to the Eikons and I felt some characters were robbed during that final chunk of the game. Like Bahamut stole all the boss fight brownie points that Ultima just felt like a mid-way boss placed at the end.
just want to say, this game looks AMAZING!
Also I'm making my own content! It's mainly inspired by your LP's but I don't want to advertise lol. Keep up the good work!
Love your content my friend - keep at it! Do not look too deep into me... just ride the popularity that you have gained.
Babe wake up, new Clement just dropped 😩
Meme is cringe ..
My stategy for the combat was
Bahamut megaflare+Lightning ball+Freeze the enemy with Shiva+ Level 5 Zantetsuken or and Gigaflare.
the biggest grin showed on my face the moment i saw this. keep up the amazing work, Clement! the quality of these keeps getting better!
Hooray! One of my favourite series of all time returns; Clement talking about Final Fantasy!
21:00 making a guess without knowing the game, the hooded figure is Joshua/his essence that split when he gave powers to our hero Sour Cream and Chives. Lets see if im right.
Just finished this game. Wasn’t convinced until seeing the intro of this video.
The king returns
What were your thoughts on Crisis Core Reunion? Do you feel the developers balanced story and gameplay? I ask in regards to side-quests; you expressed displeasure/frustration at there being 75 side-quests in this game which some will agree with while others may not. Conversely, in Crisis Core, the total number of side-quests was 300 but on the plus side, there was no prolonged cut-scene; you just accepted the quest and off to battle you went.
Aside from that, I enjoyed your observations and feedback to this game and look forward to more content in the future.
Cheers!
I also hope we get his thoughts on Crisis Core Reunion. My guess if we are to ever get it, will be for the Rebirth video.
Good review! Even though I didn't like FF16 as much as 7 Remake, this was still my Game of the Year and the story to 16 is the best Final Fantasy's had since 10 imo. 😎
Will we be getting a DLC Tekken Lore video? A supplemental to cover Tekken 8?
6 weeks later, on 29 February 2024, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth comes out.
This will be the continuation to Final Fantasy VII Remake, and I cannot wait for the day that this chapter of your Final Fantasy retrospective is appended.
The retrospective is not even close to be done
Happy to see you back Clement and glad to see you back into your little final fantasy element. Was not that big on this particular game in the series much like the last one but I will admit at least it was fun watching a Vtuber l like going through this and she was having a blast with it.
"I promise 2024 will be better"
**IMMEDIATELY UPLOADS FF16 RETROSPECTIVE**
Damn. You weren't kidding.
I'm surprised he didn't really give his opinion on Ultima or his goal.
Great video man I just want you to know this was a great video despite how you yourself feel about it an I personally love your entire FF Retrospective series out of all your work not just because I'm now a FF fan I actually was a Kingdom Hearts fan first and my first ff was 15 till I went backwards and kept up but I really enjoyed your stories, jokes, and what those games meant to you as you went through all the games and even got me to buy and play alot of them for myself an believe it or not I've seen the whole FF retro 3 times now and I still laugh my ass off when you talk about the quests in 13 Lightning Returns. I've been a fan since your Sonic Adventure 1 playthrough and I say that cause no matter what you decide to make a video on I know it'll be great.
That's more or less what I heard from people that played it, good but not quite the return to form I imagine people were hoping after seeing yoshi-p name attached to it. Hopefully one day it'll be ported to PC to see if I can have any actual input on my own about it, been a while since I was interested in a FF game.
I wish I liked this game more than I do. It's got some great elements, the spectacle is gorgeous, a few of the characters are great (Dion is best)...but man it is overall just everything I wouldn't want in a game. From it's tone, to it's visual style, to it's world layout...it's just not my kind of game.
I won't say it's bad, but it's definitely not a favorite in the series for me.
i dont care what people say this was a great game i did everything even beat final fantasy mode
Your ff vids are the best!
Honestly I'm hoping the series goes in the direction of FF7 Remake/Rebirth in the combat system as that one at least is still an RPG even if Action! My only gripe being an old grandpa (of 37 years who started with FF7 back in my teens on the original PSX as my entry to Final Fantasy and RPG IN GENERAL! Yeah DnD, Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, never would have found them if I never accidently rented FF7 because I was tricked by the commercial that only showed it's cutscenes LOL and it got me curious to keep on looking into this genre! Never beat FF7 and never beat FF8 till LATER on the PS3 because I didn't get a memory card for the PS1 till I got the FF that was the first one I beat! FFIX I got them on the dates they came out in USA by the way) for FF16 combat is that it doesn't even FEEL like it's an RPG PERIOD compared to the mentioned Remake which still feels like an RPG. An EXPANSION of OG FF7 systems, making the weapons have MORE purpose beyond their Materia Slots to make them more interesting for Builds, Characters have unique playstyles so it's not "slight Stat differences, weapon and limit breaks" as was in the original! Something I criticize FF16 as it really should have tried to have you play as others! While yeah frankly giving you the Eikons playstyle makes playing the Eikon Dominants irrelevant! Keeping you regulated to just SWORDS means while you can change how you fight and function with the sword fighting, you're still only using the sword! DMC gave you SOOOO many different weapons to use NEXT to Dante's fighting styles. So no surprise you get bored QUICKLY once you get a new Eikon Style as weapons feel like upgrades to the last. Which is BAD when you only have ONE CHARACTER as the only uniqueness is their appearance and that's IT! If you're sticking me with one character you better give me more then different ways to fight with the SAME WEAPON STYLE. (I'm a lover of Action, Turn-Based and In-between systems as I love the Tales of series and Pause & Play of Baldur's Gate 1 & 2! And Technically Final Fantasy was an Action RPG when the ATB system was implemented, so on it's way to being more action! And FF15, the press and hold a button to auto dodge isn't TOO bad as long as it's balanced where they're ARE a good frequency of undodgable attacks that WILL hit you if you miss the cue to FULL Dodge, meaning GET OUT THE WAY of the attack instead of relying on an auto dodge! But then a Block or GET OUT THE WAY is far better because you HAVE to pay attention!
And I mixed with the story, I enjoyed the story, but it also had the trappings of what I expect from a "Game of Thrones" copycat (as in the SHOW! Copycats of the BOOKS tend to be alot more focus like Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War and Ogre Battle/Tactics FREAKING Ogre!) and this annoyed me. Sex Scenes and nudity did little for me and the "bedroom talk" felt like it could have been done without the sex and nudity and something among what I dislike as I mentioned! Only parts of those I say I will like is Clive x Jill! I'll give it to Square, after the fudge that was Squall and Rinoa, and whatever the fuck Noctis and Luna was! They did right with Clive and Jill. I will say the plus was the whole "following Clive's life" following his escape from a decade of slavery and how he rose to becoming a THORN in the side of "his former masters" but was slight disappointed with everything "Clive & Annabelle" as they barely interacted after the prologue and even the point they DID it. Well everyone has seen the scene, but still not being old enough, I won't spoil it! And fuck the ending, why do pretentious writers keep pulling the "did they survive or not" endings and just say "yeah they fucking survived" you are NOT Final Fantasy Tactics where the PSP version OUTRIGHT made the ambiguous ending of Ramza and Alma survival into a "yeah they survived" and even then I'll give the PSP version credit for doing this as it felt SILLY to make it ambiguous in THE FIRST PLACE! God I'm frustrated. I was likely Barnabas as the Big Bad, wish they didn't do what they did to him. Seriously they need to stop Necron-ing the visible Big Bad's
Overall, I enjoyed my time with the game (And I'm going to say this here. Fetch Quests don't disturb me! I love to see LESS of them, but there like Poison after giving my self small drops of it and surviving! You learn to develop a resistance to them LOL But again, I prefer more UNIQUE quests that are NOT fetch quests to too many of them! At least Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom weren't full to the brim with them over unique quests) though I will add I bought the game on a "blink and you miss" sale and happy I did as I don't care too much for the price asked (too much for what I got in my opinion, the sale was the PROPER price in my opinion....or close to it at least) so I'm waiting for the DLC to see if my opinion will change (and by WAIT I mean wait for a SALE! Till then I'm enjoying myself replaying FFIX as it's been so long! I already got everything I wanted out of Dead Space 1 & Resident Evil 4 Remakes! So time to move on and play em again once I forgot how I 100% them LOL)
Overall enjoyed this game. I enjoyed the story and characters and had fun with the game. Not my favorite and I know it has some flaws, but still a fun time.
We NEED Cid dlc!
"Please Don't Do the Sidequests" is absolutely terrible advice to give, especially since many of them open up game features, improve your inventory, or provide huge character depth.
39:32 he could also be compared to several characters in FFXII because he's got a very similar aesthetic. Sort of a Vaan-Larsa hybrid imo?
Bro for Tekken 8 I just watched Tekken lore video. Thank you for the effort.
I'm excited to watch street fighter.
Please can you do one for king of fightersl fatal fury
I’ve Glosed over the story of 16 because I was mostly playing on the portal and I wanted to finish this game and Mario RPG before Rebirth comes out because I know for a fact that rebirth is going to take up most of my time
Clement: don't the side quest!
Me who did the side quest: 😮😅🤷♂️
Sidequests should either have meaningful world building or character development and unique gameplay (enemies, minigames etc) or have no cutscenes and just be ‘kill X number of Y’ and things like that. Either make them compelling for those that want to see more of the characters and world or make them purely a box ticking exercise for those that feel compelled to tick those boxes
What? Side quests should expand the world or provide optional loot for doing something challenging or unique.
For example you don't need to know people in city X as main plot, but you can if you want.
What Clement was complaining was exactly that many quest were Fetch Quests, where you wasted time on pointless BS and basically didn't get anything from that. Including wasting time on unnecessary dialogue.
This is easily the darkest Final Fantasy game I ever played and it is awesome!
