  • It's Saturday and I've got some work to do. Best part of working on a Saturday, I get help from my son! It's a pretty chill day, we run a no heat service call on a Samsung ductless mini split and then we finish up a trim out on a renovation project. Not trying to get into too much work, but getting a few things done at the same time. It's always a treat when my boy works with me, getting him started early on the best skilled trade!

Lost him to cancer Sept 2019, now it me in the truck somedays with my 5 yr old. Enjoy it zack, cause when your sons on the other side of it hell know you love your work. Least I know my dad did. Take care and enjoy the self employed life.

I'm a journeyman fire sprinkler fitter, going into more of the service side now I wish I could take my son to some of my weekend services calls but fire is a whole other animal, fire marshals, usually some authority figures involved etc. But I did get to take him out to some of my last new construction jobs and I still take him to my new construction guys (our company) job sites on the weekends just to check things out. Keep it up bro 🙌🏽

Great point on the negative pressure air handler. But remember the Hyperion is positive pressure. I always like to do a switch on the secondary drain simply to try to catch it before it goes into my overflow pan and gets it wet & full of water.

I learned the heating side from my gpa when I was around 15 years old, he worked for old coal and oil companies back in the day. He got a good job at the post office and ran his small company on the side. I eventually went on to framing houses and then doing excavation work (because his 3 man crew including himself, my uncle and I couldn't provide enough work full time) I then came back to hvac when I was about 26 and worked with a few companies until I was 31. Got a job with new york state last year and I am now running his small business on my own. Long story short I take my 3 year old daughter with me on service calls and she absolutely loves it. Theres nothing better than spending a day with daddy or grandpa on the job. Always look forward to your videos just to see what another tech goes through on a daily basis. Keep up the good work brother

I'm in S Florida and all we deal with are air handlers... good deal not gluing the float switch, as it'll be a beating trying to remove the panel when that time comes....I do the same as long as there's an aux pan underneath to catch any leakage from... "the friction fit".

I'd make sure that the secondary drain float will activate before the primary drain pan overflows.
I would use a clean out tee rather than a union on the PVC drain line. The unions can become a location of debris buildup since it reduces the internal diameter of the PVC pipe.
I've found evaporator coils that overflow because the auxiliary drain port water level doesnt get high enough to lift the float/switch before overflowing the primary pan.
Why not use a EZ-Trap with float switch? The newer ez-traps are make from one solid piece of tubing rather than two fuses together. I've also found that I had to put 3/4" PVC plugs in the remaining drain ports because I've had condesate leaks from them on Carrier/Payne/ect Air Handlers.
    Keep up the good work.

I figured it was the back plate but when I replaced that nothing changed. Nests can be annoying

I go to school on Donelson Pike for HVAC. Remington. Been there about 7 months. Not used to Nashville traffic. 😂 About to take my EPA.
Everything is so simple, yet so hard at the same time. Just when I think I'm getting it, I don't. I feel like electrical is the easiest part, but sometimes I don't know. Especially when my own furnace went wrong! (Had to replace the board which was easy, but not to diagnose for me)
But it's really cool to scroll upon your channel. Something local I enjoy to watch. If only I had your knowledge and didn't need to go to school. 😂
But here's my question, for someone in school, what route do you recommend to take? I am thinking of going residential, and trying to work for Lee/Hiller around Hendersonville area. Where would you recommend my first steps to be? & If possible I'd like to start out in the Service side, is that a bad idea?

Hey William, I’m glad you are enjoying my videos. Means a lot. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to go straight into resi service. That being said, if you ever get opportunities to help out an installer, jump on it. The best way to learn this trade is to take every opportunity you can. Experiencing install will make you a better service technician. Wherever you decide to work, let them know your ambitions. Make sure your supervisor understands how motivated you are to learn. For ductless splits, the fan shouldn't turn on because the indoor coil needs to pre-heat .. on cooling the fan will spin all the time. Power outages generally do cause shortages but there may not be anything wrong with the unit, just the customer being impatient 😂
