The New 'Gang Initiation': How Britain’s Violent Gangs Target Public With Luxury Crime Wave
Vložit
- čas přidán 14. 06. 2024
- Luxury crimes are on the rise in the UK, with criminal gangs now targeting high-end designer goods such as Canada Goose jackets and AirPods. These items have become more enticing to thieves than drugs, leading to an increase in overall crime rates. Experts warn that this trend is just the beginning and that young men are often the culprits behind these offences.
In the past, young offenders would typically start with shop thefts or burglaries as an entry-level crime. However, the rise of luxury crime has replaced these traditional offences. Offenders now see expensive, easily concealable items as a symbol of status and wealth. The desire to possess these items has become a driving force behind the increase in luxury crimes.
This week former Met Detective Peter Bleksley is joined by former armed robber turned TikTok addiction mentor; Paul Simmons, business development and recoveries manager of The Watch Register Catherine Alexander, criminologist and author James Treadwell and former senior Metropolitan Police officer Leroy Logan.
Paul highlights the changing motivations of criminals. He explains that many offenders today are not driven by financial gain or desperate circumstances. Instead, they simply want to possess the items they aspire to have, regardless of the consequences. This shift in mindset has contributed to the ruthless and unscrupulous nature of these criminals.
The impact of luxury crime is evident in the disturbing footage of a recent robbery, where a man is violently attacked and robbed of his watch. This premeditated and prolonged assault highlights the extent to which criminals are willing to go to obtain high-value items. The Metropolitan Police have made it a priority to investigate such crimes, utilising the abundance of CCTV footage available in the UK.
The panel debates whether luxury crimes should be classified as organised crime. While elements of organisation are present, the cultural shift towards material possessions and consumerism plays a significant role in driving these offenses. Young people, in particular, are bombarded with messages that define their success by what they consume, leading them to target high-end designer stores during incidents like the riots in 2010.

We all have a right to protect our properties and family... but the common problem is medieval made laws in the UK
Im not sure about your age . I hope that you are a young man, but still remember Norfolk Farmer Tony Martin
He shot two convicted thieves in his farm house, back to 1999, those thieves were from up Midlands somewhere no disrespect to Gypsy communities there are wonderful trades but those thief's were from a gypsy community and convicted for burglary countless tikes etc ...Farmer Tony Martin was living alone and was fed up of his house being burgled many times was not getting any helps from the police at all so he armed himself with a rifle and shot them thieves one if them had been killed the other one became crippled then cheekily he sued Tony Martin for shot at him!!!
Anyway, Sadly, the judge by then sent Tony Martin to prison, and he spent a year in there.because of the backlash, they had to release him..
Couple of years ago a British gentleman he was caring for his wife in their bedroom his wife she was a bedridden elderly lady, then 3 thieves broked in to their house , then 3 of them became face to face with 6 foot tall elderly gentleman who over powered one of them and got the screwdriver from his hand and stabbed him so the other escaped...because of the criminals were from the Gyps community (again) the poor gentleman and his wife they had to leave their house and live somewhere with a new identity.
.so by the law, we must not use force against criminals. We must ask them if they wish to drink tea or coffee!
@@Rikki-lh2mw I think the Tony Martin case was sad and unfortunate that he did time and was due to the fact that he shot one in the back as he was escaping so I'm told plus he showed little or no remorse so sadly he kind of sealed his own fate. BS. That’s what you want to hear
@@somethinglikeanonymous1773You must have a clue
It's the courts that are the problem. All the police do is make the arrest, then it's up to the CPS to decide if to prosecute or not, then if so, it's up to the courts to try and sentence the person. If someone only gets six months for carrying a knife for example, that sets a dangerous precedent for others to think doing the same is ok. It's also a smack in the face for victims of crime as well when someone gets a puny sentence for what is really a very serious crime. The sentencing for carrying a knife in a public place should be the same as carrying a firearm, a mandatory five years at least. Sentences are not just for the convict, they are meant to be a deterrent to anyone considering committing a crime.

Apparently when your car is stolen from outside your house which has a tracking device on it and you find it parked up on the street in Croydon and contact the police to inform them you have found it and advised to go and pick it up yourself if deemed safe but no investigation whatsoever and no action taken into the theft. I’m baffled by this as this has become common practice amongst the police investigating car theft if they had investigated this crime maybe they could of prevented further crime from happening in the future and help people from becoming victims of violent crime.

That's a sad way to have to live our lives..I certainly couldn't cope in that environment.
The combination of fatherlessness and poverty for young boys is lethal.
Thing is, you don't spend £££££ on jackets, shoes, handbags, jewellery to keep in a cupboard and take out to look at once a week ... these items are purchased to be seen, so this type of theft will keep on happening and get worse. Insurance will pay, and the cycle will be repeated.
So shop in oxfam?
Who has insurance on a coat? Plus the answer can't be to pay per month just in case it gets robbed. It will only price people out of any high quality/expensive goods......or dress poor/homless so you don't get mugged.

I think as a society in the UK we glamorise crime on TV and the media. We are glamorising material needs on the media that are non essential items for the basic working class person. I've just heard after years of protest, "grand theft auto" is back as a media player for kids! TV soaps and drama producer's are showing all this rubbish to the younger generation that crime is acceptable. I have travelled the world and never seen such crime behaviour as we are seeing on the streets of London. Not even in Scotland who was at one time, the knife capital of Europe.Who were able to address this problem with excellent policies and policing.

I think people should be able to have the means to defend themselves these days without having the fear of going to prison or getting a criminal record, if 2 men come after your watch and they have knives, you stabbed them to defend yourself they run off the man dies. You get in trouble? Make it make sense. I'm not for one minute saying we have gun laws like america, but we should be able to defend ourselves and that's with lethal force if need be. It wouldn't stop all criminals, but it would certainly make some people think twice. My God, England has turned into a crazy place !
We've got to stop young people from thinking gang life is in any way 'luxurious' or 'romanticised'. Hollywood movies have got a lot to answer for by basically polishing turds when it comes to how these movies depict gang life. Same thing with old world pirates, when you say 'pirate' to someone and ask them what first comes to mind, they think of some swashbuckling heartthrob from movies. In reality, piracy was, and still is, a bloody, violent crime that has resulted in needless loss of life.
I would start by getting some volunteer prisoners to record videos which tell the harsh reality of gangs in the UK, and the reality of life in prison. Via such a program prisoners would be given the chance to show remorse for their crimes. No rewards should be given so that their participation is more likely to be out of remorse and willingness to prevent someone else suffering the same fate, or worse. Education is our best weapon against crime. A lot of children and young people who get sucked into gangs sadly don't even see prison and a chance to change their ways, they go straight into body bags.
Nobody needs to join a gang, use your brains to go to college or university. Even people from some of the most impoverished backgrounds go on to become doctors, scientists, vets, allsorts. Join an apprenticeship, become a CZcamsr, whatever it takes to live a good well meaning life, don't do crime, you're better than that.
I think you have a lot of good ideas. ID like to add that its not always a case of kids/adults joining gangs because its "cool"
More often than not they trick poor kids into a debt they need to pay off by committing crimes or drug running or they are threatened with violence towards themselves or their families. Before they know it they are deep in a gang and cant get out. The social workers can raise concerns but the police don't have the means/want/care to help these kids. We don't even get police coming out for robbery or muggins, whats the chance they will help that kid out?
The other angle is drug addiction, as long as using drugs is seen as a crime, people addticed to drugs will always be targeted by gangs.
I think this format suits you so much better Peter. All the best.

I don't see why people "need" expensive watches, phones or jackets as it's an advert to be mugged. I can tell the time with my eight-year-old mobile phone and my equally old fleece lined jacket cost me under twenty quid.
I like watches. It's a guilty pleasure. But I'd never buy a Rolex. At most I'll spend over a £100 on a watch. But generally for me an expensive watch ins like £50.
So can you see why people "need" to steal expensive watches, phones and jackets then?
No, sort the bloody system out, we need to come down very very hard. The Internet is warping everything, sort it out ffs
Hi I think Peter , is a very good host, and I watch him regularly . I agree with most if what he says and advises . So I will give him a thumbs up . 😇
No, you can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
You can't always get what you want
But if you carry a big knife, sometimes you'll find
You get what you need...
This is just terrible to see soon enough no businesses will open around our country
You have to have a police force to police we don't have one
Overpaid traffic wardens, that's all most of our British police are these days! And scaredy cats.
@@Fightforyourdreams2024Not really
This is why it is easier to be someone like me, I have little money, don't dress well and the tech I have is old and probably wouldn't fetch much money. If I did have money I would not wander the streets flashing high end gear or posh clothes about, that is plain silly!
I started dressing like this last year when i started listening to uk drill changing from usa music. One of thr first songs i added to the playlist was 'welcome to Brixton,' and im all the way in Ethiopia.
First time watching this video, interesting content, well presented and researched.
I wish it wasn’t true, but we have saying, with less than 5% of crimes actually being investigated, that the police wouldn’t know the QE2 was at the Pier Head in Liverpool, if someone didn’t tell them.
I've been mugged a few times in my local area (NE London) and I haven't bothered to report it to police. No-one I know has either. The event would just be compounded by wasting time at a police station knowing that nothing is going to come of it. I do wonder, if criminals are going to step outside of their local areas and target luxury shops or wealthy and influential people, where complaints are made and perhaps there's CCTV evidence, whether the cops and the courts will do their jobs and investigate, arrest and prosecute?
Research luxury watch thefts. Already happens
Very interesting thankyou
THE ONLY PROGRAMME I WATCH on this Channel.
Ive got a lovely Le Creuset frying pan if they come here, they.ll be getting that!😂😂😂
UK is getting more and more unsafe, it was not like this before, and I cannot see it getting better anytime soon.
"The suspect left before police arrival". Err....they normally don't hang around waiting for them to reach 🙄
Social Media should be Over-18's Only.
You are SO right. SM has ruined generations of young people. The damage is immense.
Agreed
The legal system in this country is to soft on criminals
The thieves that rob the luxury watches don’t keep them or wear them. There stolen to order and they get as much as half the retail price which makes the watches more profitable than robbing a bank a £50.000 watch can get the robber £25.000 and there’s plenty of buyers Hatton gardens has dozens of watch sellers willing to buy the watches no questions asked that’s why it’s becoming an epidemic in London.
