  • Original Xboxes have an Achilles heel in the form of a capacitor. This component that costs about a quarter can brick your machine if left unchecked. I've seen many horror pictures of people having broken traces and putting in a lot of work to fix the damage because this low quality capacitor leaked and caused damage. This one is in the minority and I got lucky on this one where it didn't leak, but most won't be so lucky. Come along and I'll show you how to take care of this permanently.

Great video. I'm planning on digging out my Xbox to do the same thing. When you were cleaning the electrolyte from you other Xbox, did you use isopropyl alcohol to remove the electrolyte?

Thanks for the support! Yes. I pretty much just use isopropyl alcohol to clean boards. Depending how much leaks or has leaked out, you may need to do a couple rounds of cleaning. Or you may get lucky and it didn't leak at all. If that's the case, still remove and/or replace it. It will still leak eventually.

Removed it manually, after boot I got an error, what could it be?

Could be any number of things. Damage to the board removing the cap, could be an improperly seated cable, another cable jostled loose. Could be anything. What does the error message say?

@@titanrepairs Fixed! It was the error number 11, basically I've replaced the drive as well but for some reasons only an old Samsung works and ofc original dvd drives.

@@karwoski91 Woot! Glad you got it working! That's news to me. As far as I knew, the drives should be interchangeable as long as it's for an Xbox. I guess I could be wrong on that one.

Wait, are you using plumbing flux?

No. It's rosin flux I believe. It's a paste for electronics soldering 🙂
