This is an extremely useful video. I installed new bulbs today. I would have had no idea where to start. Some observations. At 1:25, the radio does not have to be removed or disconnected; just move it a few inches forward. It is not necessary to remove the screw at 2:10. It plays no part in this procedure. The procedure at 5:05 is unclear. I found that the right tab should be pushed from right to left. There is a small plastic projection in this area to which I clamped a hemostat to help withdraw the gear range selector. The connector at 5:29 proved difficult, so I just left it connected. There was plenty of room to remove the bulbs. I snapped them out and installed new bulbs into the original bases. I tested everything before I buttoned up.
    Thank you 1A Auto! :-)

I left most of the wiring harnesses plugged in (except 2 on the cluster itself). I had more than enough slack. I know the textbook procedure is to unplug everything, but I've had too many plastic clips break on me in the past. That aside, thank you for this video. It was extremely helpful.

Followed the Video and accessing the instrument panel was relatively easy, however, I decided to buy the LED lights which were great, but forgot that there is a polarity to them and I had no indication of correct way to install. Finally decided to install the lights and plug the panel in and through trial and error, finally got the correct polarity. Put everything back together and IT WORKS! thanks for the video.

So is it possible for the smaller indicator bulbs one of them or a couple of them to go bad where one or two of the dash indicators do not come on the dash like the headlights or the Park lights on notification. I ask this because I get the dinging sound when lights are on but it does not show on my dash. Working with an 08 Ford ranger. Honestly I can't remember if it ever has or not shown a notification for these lights. ?? But it works for high beam and fog lights, turn signals, engine light and so on .... ??

WARNING: The big misses on this video:
Disconnect the battery so you don't blow a fuse. It took me hours only to end up paying $70 to learn there is a second fuse box. (fine, call me stupid, but we aren't all familiar with this stuff or we wouldn't be here!)
It is easier to unhook the transmission indicator from the bottom connection (wire loop on large hook) rather than pinching out the assembly containing PRND21

I replaced all of mine with LED's. they looked great! very bright. However, 3 months later, they're now dimming and flickering. i am not sure if it is due to the quality of LED's i purchased (cheap amazon bundle package) or if it is a load recognition issue. I still haven't decided to take it on yet as the dash panel cover is quite brittle and on its last legs. So I'm not entirely sure as to how many connectors there are, especially since it's a manual and there's a lot less stuff on the dash.

@@mcfriedchicken1972 It depends on the year. On my 95 the tint is blue and the yellow light from the bulbs makes the final color green. Later years just had green tint on the cluster.

Cant i just remove the motor and transmission and take the body off and leave the instrument panel in.đŸ€”
Edit; i found a old lamp at the dump and bought a inverter and shoved the lamp under the dash and used 14 zipties to secure it. Then i got a light switch for a outside flood light and used a sawsaz to cut a hole in the roof for the chord. It was so easy.

    • @joelbritt2794
      @joelbritt2794 Pƙed 2 lety

      ok. finished.
1 - need six in my 95 ford ranger - just like the panel in the video
why sell packs of 5 for $35? - $7/bulb assy
2 - if you have oem sockets and bulbs to replace, get the panel out (multiple videos on youtube to demonstrate), remove the plastic socket (as shown in video), attempt to remove the bulb from the base (pull straight out)
CAREFUL THIS IS GLASS!!!! if you CAN remove the glass bulb from the base...
3 - buy three 2-packs (194 sylvania long life bulb) from auto parts orange zone or that green and white irish place ($7 per two-pack), install the new glass bulb into the old plastic base, and replace your REPAIRED assembly back into your panel.
one simple extra step, half the money, purchased locally, no waiting for shipping
I wouldn't be telling you any of this if 1A Auto sold a set of 6 instead of 5.
EVEN IF YOU BUY BULB AND SOCKET ASSEMBLIES DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR ORIGINAL PLASTIC BULB BASES**
NEXT TIME YOU REPLACE GET SIZE/TYPE 194 SYLVANIA for half the cost - swap out the bulbs yourself like a real man, save money like a real man, got to the auto parts store like a real man
