    This is the exact video I was looking for for my 1990 Lund Tyee. I want a bimini and a forward tower to hold rocket launncher rod holders. I'm getting into salmon fishing and going out with a dozen rods is cumbersome. Also, at my age now, the sun is kicking my ass more than it used to do in the 90's. Perfect option for me here. I'll add a quick detach base on Traxtech rails for easy removal. I appreciate this video.
    I also am working my faith and have recently accepted the truth. I used to change or just cancel videos with the JC pitch mixed in them. I embraced yours and subscribed.
    God bless Brother!

    The people around me had a heart attack when I built my rod holder out of steel, but the northwestern and the time band that I said are all made out of steel on the ocean and I’m on freshwater I had to repaint it once nice job. Nice job.

      You are 100% right. Yeah it is nice to have a stainless top, but it would be out of my price range. This top has held up in both fresh and saltwater without issue. It only requires a bit of touch up paint on occasion to keep it looking good. Thanks for watching and for your encouragement and may God bless you!

    For the tarp make a bracket to hold a piece of pvc pipe a little wider than the tarp, run a piece of round bar with a handle from end to end, router out a notch across the pipe for tarp and attach the tarp to the bar inside. So the tarp can stay rolled up into the pipe and the end doesn't have to be rolled around the back and it won't catch any wind.

    Wonder if you could substitute a retracting shade on that top🤔

    • @thefrugalsportsman
      @thefrugalsportsman  Před měsícem +1

      You probably could, but the tarp is cheap and sets up and comes down in under 5 minutes. If it tears I just buy a new one for a few bucks. So that is the route I took, but I'm sure it could be done if you wanted to go that way. Thanks so much and may God bless you!

    Excellent video. Beginning to end! I hope that I can get a boat and do this.
    Do you think this would be too top heavy, or simply too heavy for a aluminum Vhull?
    Subbed

    • @thefrugalsportsman
      @thefrugalsportsman  Před 9 měsíci

      Thanks so much for watching and for subbing! I also appreciate you kind and encouraging words as well and glad you found the video a help! As far as being top heavy it really depends on your boat. I designed this for my boat which is an older 1970 Glastron that I restored with a larger gas tank, 2 batteries and pressure treated plywood so it has a very lower and heavy ballast weight. I've been out in rougher water with it without and issue. I think the top might work for you on something like a Sea Nymph Great Lakes aluminum v hull with a wide width, but I think it would be top heavy for narrower V hull aluminum boats. You could also use aluminum tubing as a lighter choice. You would have to do some experimenting to make sure it is all safe and stay within the weight rating capacity of your boat. Hope that helps. Take care and God bless you!

    That’s really nice….could this be done with electrical emt conduit?

    • @thefrugalsportsman
      @thefrugalsportsman  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks so much! I think using EMT would be a stretch as it isn't as strong as the tubing I used and because EMT is galvanized it would make welding more difficult. And if you used EMT connectors instead of welding I wouldn't trust it. I wanted something I could grab onto in rough seas and also not worry about my rods being supported up high. EMT is also over $10 a length now for 3/4" and up. I would check with metal scrap yards in your area. The one I go to is a little over an hour away, but they have all types of steel for .55 cents a pound. Also as an FYI I did build one of these out of 1 1/4" PVC pipe that worked okay for a while, but snapped off on me when I hit a wave during a cold day out fishing. So I wouldn't trust that either. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching and sharing and God bless you!
