I'm in the process of restoring a '70 CT90 and this video was exactly what I needed to get the front forks done. Good stuff! At 15:00 into the video, you said you were going to make another video showing how you polish and maintain the aluminum parts with "Gibbs Oil". I've searched your home page but can't find it. I would really appreciate seeing that if available. Thanks!!
Thanks for reminding me 😁 I need to get around to making that video some day, sorry to send you on a wild goose chase. After I polish my aluminum and clean up my chrome. I spray Gibbs Penetrating oil on a rag and wipe everything shiny down. Then every time I wash the bike, I wipe the bare aluminum and chrome with oil again. It does a great job of keeping things looking new.
@@BIGFOOTBIKESANDBREWS Appreciate the reply. My aluminum (or pot metal or whatever they are) pieces were badly corroded. I got them looking pretty good with a fine wire wheel but not as shiny as yours. How are you polishing? Why Gibbs Oil as opposed to any other penetrating oil?
@@douglascamster2789 , I use a DA sander and start with 220 grit paper to get the pits out, then 400, then 800, then I buff them on a polishing wheel. I'm sure other oils would work well too, I've just had good luck with Gibbs so I've stuck with it.
Don't worry. Its going to be stock. I "might" be painting it a different color though. That is something that can always be undone some day if we need it to be red again.
Nice video, i gotta do this too and was looking at exact Ebay fork kit today....What weight fork fluid did you go with? Do you remember how many ounces? I have a yellow 69' i just started on - pulled motor and in process of splitting cases as we speak. Subscribed 🙂👍

nice. I need to do the same thing to my S90 forks probably. looks a lot simpler than the yamaha vtx that I rebuilt the forks on a year ago!

@@nybergsgarage Oh ya, I remember watching a couple of your videos of it on your channel a while back. Looks like it does pretty great on the trails.

Nice! Sounds like a blast! I used ATF in the forks. If I remember right, the service manual calls for around 4.5 oz if dry.
