Its interesting that when they heard his voice before seeing him, they knew it was Kratos. This is the first game out of the total of 7 that Kratos was voiced by a new actor, who doesn't sound exactly like the original, yet they knew. Powerful
there are few characters, even in games with large people, who have such a deep echoing voice as recognizable as kratos. not to mention that the VA also controlled the voice to the specific tone to match a sort of older deeper tone that still fit with the old games and is easier to recognize
@@Heavenly-Drakian yeah he was definitely doing an impression of the original actor probably just out of respect to the actor and the character needing to be consistent, but is still older and been through a lot of things that changed how he sounds.

well the dude who was the maestro was also the music choreographer for all the music on GoW 4 and he took inspiration from the originals and blended it with nordic culture to get the masterpiece soundtrack we got. that is why, even the first few beats, even of a different song can make you think of the most famous fictional god we know
2:35 Ben says “take me to Valhalla” before even knowing the game was god of war and that it was set in the Nordic universe. That’s fucking A+ composing by Bear McCreary to get those vibes across in music

Notice how he gives the kid a little push with the knife, but then release his grip to let him finish the job himself. Just a small detail that caught my eye.
Yeah this is the right way to do story games that companies like Naughty Dog claim to be interested in making.

It's 2019, have completed the game twice and yet the reveal gives me goosebumps.
It’s 2023. Have beaten this game multiple times and Ragnarok twice, the reveal still gives me chills
Coming back here after beating the game...knowing now what ive gone through with Kratos and Atreus makes this orchestra score that much more emotional. Well deserved 10/10 for both game and reaction. L&R allies, i hope you enjoyed the game as much as the rest of us.
Does the game+ worth it?
There was so much unspoken during that demo. Kratos' hesitance to get close to his son. Accepting that to hunt means to kill. So many things that took advantage of actions rather than just words - it was wonderful to watch.
Greatest presentation of a game in video game history. Absolutely stunning, especially considering the game was two years off at the time.

2023 right now. It's awesome to know that Bear Mcreary did such an amazing job with the music score for GoW 2018 that the developers gave him an npc to play in Ragnarok with his own side quest.

Responding to this comment 10 months later but I agree. Like has there been a first reveal of a game since this that just straight up showed 15 minutes of gameplay right of the bat without any trailers or anything? And this reveal was TWO years before the game even came out. Just crazy. Also, with E3 unfortunately being dead I don't think we will ever get something like this ever again.
I find it incredible how Ben said "Take me to Walhalla" @2:25 BEFORE ANYONE was not only unsure is this really about GOW but that complete change of mythology has happened - and then to also just instinctively nail its Nordic. BEN, THAT WAS AMAZING! 😎👍

I love how the game wasn’t even HINTED at when they were about to reveal it. I wonder how many other people managed to catch on before Kratos’s big ass stepped out of the shadows during to gameplay reveal. They hit it out of the park with this reveal.
I'm glad this game turned out great, and I'm glad I watched the EZA reactions again. Huber clutching his chest at the drama of it all is just adorable.
There’s a joy when a game delivers hype of this level, then somehow far exceeds that hype when it comes out.
Anyone else who had watched this reaction video has probably either played and finished the game already or had watched playthrough videos. Imagine the next game would be where Kratos fights Thor. And then when Kratos calls for his axe, Thor's hammer came instead expressing submission to Kratos. Then the scene focuses on Thor's half surprised and half scared face. That would be epic.

Damn, that game just looks sooooo good! What I just love is that shaky camery in the cutscenes, just af if there is some third guy with atreus and cratos that follows them around.
And the music... is the MVP.
Normally not my type of game (you know, Action adventures, soulslike, stuff like that), but this just rocks.

I would say that this franchise is maturing. Maybe games in general are maturing.

Uncharted 4, Tomb Raider, Mortal Kombat X, A few racing games, and even consoles themselves are maturing

I just watched the whole thing again, but the part from 5:00 to 5:35, that, i played back to back to back! So much emotion, "Its, him, its Kratos, yeeeeeees!" from a bunch of ones and zeroes, i mean thats inspirational!
If it didn't say enough about Sony's confidence to have Bear McCreary there to conduct _anything,_ it should say so much more that they had him open the show with an entire four minute overture.

There's some strong The Last of Us vibe in this game.
Yeah I got TLOU vibes from this and Days Gone as well. This is closer in terms of perspective and AI companion while Days Gone is closer in terms of setting,
Exactly, it's not only the camera, or companion, but the way the main character suffered and changes because he is living and fighting for someone else.

I think it might be like Last of Us. Kratos seems a lot more mellowed out now, he has a (possibly adopted) son, and is teaching him how to live, though he doesn't seem to want to get too close to him. It will be cool if the story is just Kratos trying to preserve the new world from the machinations of gods and monsters.
