    I am actually confused with Catherine's dress. I understand she recycled the red dress from the Christmas event a couple of years ago as mentioned, and I understand that the dress was below the knees. The picture of Catherine walking mid-stride at about 18:23 shows the dress is slightly above the knees and I thought "oh, she hemmed it shorter". But then after Catherine got rid of the cape shown at about 20:34 the dress is below the knees 😅 is it some kind of optical illusion? Or does the dress have a slit?

    • @BeebsKelley
      @BeebsKelley  Před 5 měsíci +34

      She had a simple sheath dress underneath at just above knee length both times she wore the coat dress with the bow. It doesn't button down very far, and we saw more movement (out of the car, up the stairs) this time as compared to the xmas occasion which showed the sheath dress under more on this occasion. The cape on top was added this time and looked to be slightly longer than the coat dress so it was three layers total this time and it did look confusing 😀💛

      What about the hair style. One down and one in a chiffon? I’m confused? She’s gorgeous either way but it’s a bit confusing as to when the photos were taken.

      @@marrtianchronicles5702 I noticed that a too. I have never seen a vid when she has her hair down that she isnt fussing at it. Buy her a snood. I like it better pinned up in some fashion, not just hanging on her shouldars.

      @BeebsKelley First, thanks to the OP for asking the question that I wanted to ask but couldn't quite figure out how to word it. Everyone else seemed to understand it, so I thought I was just having a "Robin moment", so a million thank yous for voicing the question perfectly. And, Beebs, thank you for reading the comments and answering this question so thoroughly. You explained it with the extra detail that I needed to grasp the whole concept without making me feel like a fashion dummy. If I understand correctly, the sheath dress serves the purpose of a slip that the world can see. Forgive me, I just want to understand, she's wearing the proper undergarments, then the sheath dress which is most likely lined with silk, then the coat dress with the bow, and then the "cape"? Oh, she is not only beautiful, kind, genuine, a fashion icon but a bloody fashion chessmaster too! She's brilliant. One final question that does seem ridiculous at this point, but does she have a sheath dress on under every coat dress?
      And, The Meg, thought she could compete in this type of high fashion game? She's not even eligible to be on the lineup.

    It's so nice to see Princess Anne getting to wear formal wear instead of a military uniform. She looked lovely. The tiara was so pretty. I also like that she just grabs something out of the closet. She's a no fuss lady. Queen Camilla does justice to the "big guns" tiaras. The Strathmore rose was in a museum for years because it was considered too fragile to be worn again. They must have done some work on it to get it wearable again.

I do not however, remember the kidnap incident. I thought she might be mean, that she was beautiful, that all the men wanted to marry her. She got as much coverage as Catherine or Meghan. Meghan however, was the only one that believed in all that press before the world figured her out and then no more good press. Except IF there had been a Queen Diana still commanding so much attention, I don’t think you’d have the same King Charles. Having read so much about them both, Diana’s hurt brought out her vindictive side as to not being protective of the Monarchy as a whole. I understand as a WIFE, having been rejected, it does not bring out our best and to up the stress, Charles wronged her and called her nasty names but he’s still the HEIR, and so protected in doing & being protected while doing it too. But pretending they could have stayed together when Diana did such provocative things to cause outrage, Charles’ resentment over being eclipsed by his wife, would have strengthened his flaws. Diana felt free to act disrespectful, and was setting the kids to be caught in the middle, so we would not have the strong William we see now.

Anne's sash is different-that's the insignia of a Lady Companion of the Order of the Garter (the highest chivalric order). Male holders are called Knight Companion. They always wear their sashes at state occasions-its a bit like medal ribbons that the military wear with their formal dress uniforms.

Love the richness of the black fabric (velvet?) and agreed that the trim embellishment is perfect: not showy, not an afterthought but glamorous, enhancing her figure and the dress's silhouette just right. Queen Camilla's red!!! So regal and the PERFECT shade for her coloring!! The little flourishes in the cut (shoulders, sleeve cuff, neck shape, skirt filled to a perfect point)... A tiara matching with a necklace or bracelet is called a parure. It enables the set to be worn as a complimentary group and are designed to be worn together although many royals choose to wear one item (to avoid ostentatious behaviour, I expect) with a subtle pair of earrings to go with a statement tiara. 👑

      Probably not. That tiara looked like a royal knock off. I think they duped it and didn't let her wear the real one. After that hissy fit over the emerald tiara, she learned not to piss the queen off.

      Probably not since she only wore a fake glass imitation😆. HMTQ felt the wife would again ‘accidentally forget’ to return that tiara (which Is what happened) she had a fake made to protect the real deal. But because the Wife did claim it’s ‘lost’, it’d be tacky to pull out the real deal and someone wear it, but it sure would be hilarious.

    I love caefwrines style, she has impeccable taste and always dresses appropriately. It’s sad for Megan that she didn’t hang about long enough to learn from Catherine. Megan seems to favour the I just got out of bed look or as an alternative, I got dressed in the dark because there was a power cut. Also MM doe t dress appropriately those shorts at the invictus games still give me nightmares !

      Thank you Beebs❣️ I always anticipate and look forward to your podcasts. They are well rounded and researched. All this in addition to a pleasant well modulated voice. Perhaps a career in voice over work in the future?
      I watched your podcast on my iPad, so I am not certain, but it looked to me that the cape embroidery had a bit of the Stathmore Rose motives. If it’s correct, more kudos to Catherine the Princess of Wales for impeccable and thoughtful presentation.
      Thank you again, and look forward to your future podcasts. They are always well rounded and researched.
      I admire princes Catherine for the excellent job she does representing the RF, despite not being born into it. I also admire Prince William for taking the time to help Catherine realize what she was taking on and help her navigate in the system. It was clear from their first joint interview after their engagement. Great Britain is lucky to look forward to a great leadership.

    Chances are Jenny Peckham used the same base pattern for the gown and changed the capelet/sleeves for the North Korean dinner. The South African gown has crystal/jewel embellishments on the bodice that would be hard to remove without damaging the dress? I think she wore a newer version of the gown. All of the designers she works with would keep a custom sloper/block specifically for her measurements, making it easier for them to reproduce, adapt and create new designs from the silhouettes she likes.

    • @czazozharris4083
      @czazozharris4083 Před 5 měsíci +1

      I had the same thought. The white/ivory sheath gown looked too similar, but the cape and capelet seemed to be integrated too much with the basic gown to be the exact same dress. Making 2 basic sheaths would be fairly easy for her tailors/designers. Then, changing the design of the outerwear to make a ke a new statement, priceless.

    You were SPOT ON about Sophie. She was wearing an aquamarine necklace too that totally got lost in the embellishment at the top of the dress. Anne's bolero look made everything look disjointed. I didn't like the look at all from her, but she isn't one for fashion, so she probably doesn't care. I loved Korea's first lady's look--so chic.

    You have completely expressed my thoughts on the royals - men and women - in this video. Catherine obviously takes the cake, with the very handsome William beside her - at both first meeting and state dinner. King Charles and Queen Camilla are a gorgeous pair themselves. As you say, Queen Camilla's dress is a beautiful shade of red, perfect for her, fitting the occasion and perfectly showcasing the stunning tiara, necklace, and earring suite she wore. I can't help notice that King Charles also wore a red ribbon for his neck medal (please forgive me, although I'm an anglophile I don't know all the medals and honors) - just another example of them planning their presentation and perfecting it. As you point out, the Duchess of Edinburgh looks completely gorgeous as well. I love that the royal ladies work together (and with their husbands) to produce a stunning, united presentation of grace and dignity. Long live the king!

    I loved The Strathmore Rose Tiara with this Jenny Packham dress. I love this dress more than the one from last year because I’m not a fan of those floor length split sleeves. It’s not a cape. The sleeves are like tubes. I DO wish the embellishments on this year’s dress had been silver to match the tiara. The capelet IS flowy & perfect, though! I think King Charles had a hand in her being able to wear that particular tiara. So kind of him. ♥️ Jessica

  • @athenastewart9167
    @athenastewart9167 Před 5 měsíci +2

    If the Princess of Wales' gown was repurposed, they also changed the neckline. That change in neckline makes a huge difference in how the cape balances the shoulders.
    In last year's dress, the neckline is narrower to echo the long sleeves. The effect is to narrow the shoulder line.
    This year's dress has a slightly wider neckline. The effect is to, again, narrow the effect of the shoulder line and make the caplet more prominent. A real masterclass in exquisite tailoring.
