Mourinho is up to something in Portugal…

  • José Mourinho was sacked about 3 months ago. While he hasn’t been seen on the touchline since then (obviously), he has been spotted in stadiums in Portugal quite frequently, namely when Benfica is involved in the matches.
However, he has also been rumoured to have been learning German, in case he is to be considered for the upcoming opening at Bayern Munich. So, with Mourinho saying he wants to work this summer, where will he end up? There is a strong case for him making his managerial return to Portugal, with jobs at both Sporting and Benfica becoming available. But with Benfica, there’s an extra touch of curiosity given the matches he has attended… So, where will Mourinho end up next?

the bigger crime is him not managing portugal during their best chances at winning the world cup being 2018 and 2022 world cups... prime cr7 in 2018 who was on fire with bruno, bernardo, renato sanches, pepe, cancelo, ruben neves, ruben dias, and then in 2022 all those players and the younger ones more experienced and familiar with the tournament, and new players like rafael leao nuno mendes etc.

Mourinho still is the only manager right now in football with 2 European finals in the laat 2 years. And he didn't do it with AC milan . Bayern. Or city . So he clearly still is a fantastic manager in European tournaments. But he has fallen off in league form so maybe the Portuguese league could be a great move. Porto or Benfica he would probably win it as its an easier league than the top 4 leagues and he would inherit the best squad in the country so in 2 years he could win at least 1 title and he would definitely do something special in Europe. Also wenger and Ferguson stopped in their 70s . Ancelotti is like 66 . Mourinho is 61 . He still has quite a few seasons to win things

You're kind of talking out of your ass.
Porto is going through a crisis.
Benfica's new strikers and left backs have all been struggling to make an impact, with so far pretty negative consequences.
The best squad in Portugal this season is by far, unquestionably, Sporting's.
Why would he "probably win" with Porto, when Conceição, who is one of the best Portuguese managers atm, is struggling to keep the third place? Porto is going through a crisis, with new presidential elections this month. Mourinho isn't coming to Porto, he doesn't want to have to deal with that crap, and if Villas Boas wins he'll be looking for new blood elsewhere.
Benfica is the more likely candidate. Yet if it were this season Mourinho would still be losing to Sporting because he's a football manager, not a magician. He could still pull upsets in Mourinho's style in the cups, but he'd struggle in the league because the opposition's players and managers aren't incompetent.

I will forever love him for his time in Real Madrid, some of the most fun, exciting and entertaining moments with so many amazing goals and matches. The rivalry was incredible, many great moments and one of the greatest times to have ever been invested in the sport, so much passion, fight and hunger to win with such a direct and lethal team. I was not even that much of a Real Madrid fan before he arrived, but it was hard to not love that direct style of play. Mourinho's Real Madrid will forever be my favourite team I have ever watched. I will never forget that Ramos penalty that landed in Pakistan...
People love to bash how his team plays but first if you don't concede you don't lose, once that is secured, play in a way that gets the best out of your creative and clinical players as these relationships develop creating moments of brilliance. In Real Madrid no players were missing, a great cover in front of the defense, he had that solid defensive structure, but on top of that he had those creative and lethal players who he was able to get the best out off. Xabi Alonso, Ozil, Di María, Marcelo, Benzema, Higuain, Ronaldo, he got the best out of all of them.
When you look at Roma, who was the creative flare... Dybala, no one else had that magic, so many diciplined but bland players with no budget, thats why Dybala had a free role being allowed to be everywhere on the pitch, they even had to bring in an old Matic from United because they had no proper defensive midfielder, and he is no creative player. If Dybala was not around, usually injured, there was little flare and creativity to get the best out of the limited attacking options, it was soulless, having to rely on that defensive structure.
In most teams he managed since Real Madrid they lacked players somewhere to allow his defensive wall or his creative attack flourish, but he still won everywhere even while lacking the tools he needed. I know Bayern fans will not like this but that team feels like a rare case of a team available where all the tools he would want are there to replicate that deadly Real Madrid clinical creative attack, as well as all the defensive assets, they just need that hunger, desire and confidence back, Mourinho feels ideal... caotic but ideal. It would be really fun to see Mourinho join a team that for once that has all pieces he would need to compete once again.

man, correct me if I'm wrong for saying this, but there was a time where Messi's Barça, or Pep's Barça was simply unstoppable, Real couldnt get the upper hand and even in europe, Barça was virtually invincible. The entire world was looking for a solution and Real got the best portuguese player ever, Ronaldo, but that still wasnt enough for Real to get the upper hand.
Then Real watched the best portuguese coach ever winning against Barça with Inter, who would become european champions and they had to get him. Only then, Real was finally able to put up a team that could actually for the first time go toe to toe with the almost perfect Barça who would still remain as good as they were for a few years, but now they had a real menace in Real for the first time in years
So yeah, although that Barça was one of the most unstoppable teams ever, Mourinho was the one to finally crack the code
my memory might be embelishing some aspects, and being portuguese yeah I focused more on the 2 portuguese juggernauts involved, but please correct me if I'm wrong because thats the version Im telling my grandkids

Mourinho is from Setúbal. His club is Vitória FC from the 4th division. They were thrown out from the 1st division a few years ago for financial irregularities and now they are fighting for promotion to Liga 3. It might seem like a random comment, but Portugal is becoming hot for foreign investment and the Saudis wanted Mourinho and are also interested in another club in Europe. A 4th/3rd division club is not idea, but they can get both a club and Mourinho at the same time. Either now or in the future. Benfica would be perfect for Mourinho and maybe Mourinho would be perfect for Benfica. Unlike with Man Utd, Tottenham or Rome, he would be managing the most financially powerful club of the country with arguably the best squad and could pick the transfers he'd want (within reason, of course) and would have a great academy full of talents at his disposal. Internally he would have every reason to succeed and bring his mentality to tournament style football like the UCL without much pressure.

With Pinto da Costa constantly tying Conceição's continuation to him winning the election and the poorest of performances Porto has fielded in living memory, the Porto job is more than open. And although Mourinho is not a portista ( he has only one true love, Vitória FC), he holds the club dear and has lots of simpathy for Porto.
