  • Earlier in the 30-day challenge (day seven to be exact), we practiced a drill called "Wheelbase" where we used our front wheel unweight technique to roll on the back wheel for one full bike length. Now, we're going to stretch that out to two full bike lengths to see if we can get the feeling for a basic manual.

Had to catch up on the last 4 challenges after getting home from a road trip. This one wasn't too bad. Bunny hops were harder!

This is my sneaky way of teaching the basics of manuals...it might actually belong the day before bunnyhops, now that i think about it.

I'm still having problems pulling the front end up w/o a pedal push. I have a full sus MTB and it weighs a ton which I think is the problem. Still having a great time doing wheelies, and manuals with a push of the pedal. All your challenges are excellent for my MTB purposes on and off trail!

I’m having the same issue. I’d like to see him doing it on a full suspension bike. Everyone I know and ride with have fully suspended bikes, no hard tails at all.

Full suspension series is coming soon - I definitely lean even further back when I'm on my fully.

Love it, and I've been enjoying this series immensely - unfortunately I'm not with my bike as I'm on a visit overseas but I'm making a lot of mental notes here - thank you! đŸšČ
Slightly off-topic but when wheeleing - I find I can wheelie a little longer in a slightly higher gear and ease in and out of the balance point a little smoother. Should I be:
    a) continuing like that
    b) go back to trying to learn them slower in a lower gear and having to use the brake more
    c) choose one or the other depending on the mood / slope
I like that I get a smoother result with a slightly higher gear but I do wonder if I b), I'll get more sense of the balance point quicker

Keep going, for sure! I spent a ton of time working on wheelies this summer, and I realized that I had the best luck with the higher gear. Definitely the way to go, I think.
