    Good point about the car campers, which I am one. I used to tent camp, but my back can't take it anymore, no matter how nice the inflatable pad, and I'm not into those 10 inch inflatables, LOL! 😃 That's a beautiful area, I'd take that most private of spots to tent camp, if I could...thanks for sharing the beauty!

    Named, I believe, after my great great granduncle, George Priest who immigrated to Telluride from Gloucestershire, England, in 1876.

    Nice video, thanks for the info. We are hoping to venture up into southern Colorado for camping next year so this video is useful for planning.

      Thank you! More to come in this area :) And other than Telluride Town Park Campground, Matterhorn Campground is the only campground in the area taking reservations. I didn’t get to film the Matterhorn campground on this trip, maybe next year. I’d love to see a RobinT-Treehugger review of this area!

    I came face to face with a huge Moose about 3 years ago on this lake. Got some cool pictures from like 20 feet away. Fortunately I was up on the dam looking down on him, otherwise I was in trouble.

    I wanna camp here in the dead of winter, ideally in a blizzard. Any advice?

      If that’s a serious question, March is the snowiest month. Then you’ll need a 4-season tent, one with a rain fly that extends to the ground. A portable wood stove would be nice too- there are quite a few tents/stoves on Amazon to look through.

      @@highdesertcampertours thank you!! What about road conditions?

    • @highdesertcampertours
      @highdesertcampertours  Před rokem +1

      They keep hwy 145 open year round, fresh snow could close it down for a day or 2. The road in probably won’t be maintained, but I imagine locals drive on it so I would think there’ll be tracks to follow. There didn’t seem to be much dry wood around, but the market at Mountain Village had boxes of wood when I visited.
