Alta Lakes Campground, Telluride, Colorado

Alta Lakes Campground is located high in the San Juan National Forest near the town of Telluride at an elevation of 11,597 ft. This is a free (as of 2021), designated dispersed campground with 20 sites, each with a metal fire ring. All sites are numbered. The campground is situated on the west side of Alta Reservoir # 3 at the base of Silver Mountain. Bring your own wood and water, and take your trash with you. There may not be Porta Potties early/late in the season, so go prepared.

Which campsite would you say is the best? It seems like 1 & 13 we’re good choices for 2 tents and good views.

Those two are good plus 2 & 12. The views starting at 11 are amazing…
I would park at 1 or 2 if open, then maybe walk to the other sites to see what you think.
