  • We are trying McDonald's in 7 different countries in Europe to experience the localized menu offerings of each. We start at McDonald's in Belgium, where we try McFlavor Fries topped with cheese, tomatoes, and onions, a Samurai burger, and a Chicken Big Mac. In Hungary, the highlight was the Camembert Cheese Wrap made with breaded camembert cheese. On our UK visit, we finally got to try the vegan McPlant burger as well as the Big Tasty Spicy and a Cadbury Wisper Gold McFlurry. Italy seemed to have some of the most uinque items at a McDonald's, like Panzerotti (which were like stuffed pizza pockets), parmesan snacks, and a pistachio McFlurry. In Germany, we had curly fries, a first for us at a McDonald's. We also tried a sweet chili chicken wrap, and Pizza pockets. In Austria, we LOVED the Curry Burger, but some of the other items were a miss. In France, we had to get a "Royale with Cheese", but also tried unique items like a Chicken Bacon Onion sandwich and macarons from McCafé.

I know a lot of very pretentious people like to crap on people going to McDonald's when they're in other countries, but i think it's great, it gives you a real opportunity to compare things and get a quick and cheap idea of some of that countries tastes/preferences. Sure, go to other places as well, but you're not going to have any direct comparison for what they serve as the same dish at multiple restaurants in the same country will be different, but you know that all McDonald's in a country will taste the same/have the same menu.

The American couple and their lovely dog who made this huge trip around Europe done so with nothing but respect, understanding and willingness to learn about different European cultures. The videos were fab you came to my home city of Durham my Dads hometown of Saltburn by the Sea and much much more . If they fancied a Big Mac and wished to compare them with American Big Macs and other European Big Macs so what ???? They tried every possible local food they could and to eat in swanky restaurants every night you’d need to be a few dollars behind Jeff Bezos !!!!!!!
It must of been a very expensive trip .
I adore their live of the UK and thing’s British. I’m really happy our great American cousins when they say they enjoyed their time in the UK .

I was going to ask, as i can't remember from your time here in the UK, if you ever tried Wimpy? I noticed Jeremy talk about a burger on a brown bun, which is a Wimpy thing. If you never tried it, when you're back here, i recommend it if you can find one. Unfortunately a lot of them have closed, but they used to be everywhere in the 90s. I think they're actually an American company originally, but they're thought of as being very British here, unlike McDonalds you actually get table service and things served on real plates with cutlery. On top of the normal burgers etc... You can also get a cooked English Breakfast and i'm not sure if they still do it, as the ones near me are long gone, but they used to do a desert, called something like a brown betty or derby, and i remember it being a ring doughnut with fudge sauce and ice cream, it was amazing! I looked forward to it endlessly as a child. Wimpy used to be the only fast food place my Gran would take me, as it had the plates and cutlery, lol.

My first experience of McDonald's was in Germany in 1983 as it would be another two years before Leeds got its first restaurant. I had a McRib which I liked. Sadly, within 6 months of opening in Leeds, the McRib disappeared forever.

Hello Cara and Jeremy. I toured Europe aged 17, turning 18 under the Eiffel Tower. McDonalds was a cheap and quick way to get food on the go to help budget for the good stuff from local restaurants when we had chance.
I read a response where you said the same, only in our trip we just had standard burgers, which differed hardly at all.
Pity there is no international chain of decent fish and chip outlets with curry sauce of course.

It's been quite a few years since i ate McDonalds but i know it used to be the case that the monopoly here, in the UK, gave you sometimes an instant win and sometimes a board piece. Then i remember they started to reduce the number of menu items that gave you pieces, originally if you got a meal all three items would give you pieces. They also reduced how many pieces each item gave you. Then i think they stopped making the pieces be stickers that you stuck onto a special paper “monopoly board” you'd get from them. Then they moved to it being a thing on the app, so i don't know how much it's changed from that in the few years since i last got McD's.

My family always have bad stomach issues if we eat from Macdonald's. We avoid it like the plague. We love Burger King, on our rare visits to fast food 'restaurants'. The bun isnt full of preservatives. The burgers are meaty and tasty ( unlike the dry MCDONALDS burgers) Tomatoes and onions are, obviously, prepared on the premises and are tasty and recognisable!! Unlike the dry, tiny onion bits at McD.

Come to Asia and you’ll see even stranger McDs offerings. Like the Ebi (shrimp) burger to start with or a Thai burger. And no McDonalds in the world gives you fries packed the way they do in the McDonalds of Japan. Most McDonalds give you these half deflated packs of fries whereas McDonalds in Japan those fry packets are stuffed to the max. Like you couldn’t fit even one more fry into that packet. I personally find that the McDonalds of the UK are really not holding up their end at all.
