  • We've decided it's time for a proper British holiday. Since we don't have any plans to visit the UK anytime soon, we're recreating that experience in the next best place - Victoria, British Columbia. Our goal is to immerse ourselves in British culture and traditions as much as possible during our time in this charming city. We start by indulging in a quintessential afternoon tea at the renowned Butchart Gardens. We also explore Victoria's picturesque city center, including the Parliament building, Chinatown, and pub scene. Of course, no British holiday is complete without the best fish and chips, which we set out to find. Throughout our adventure, we're determined to fully embrace the UK vibes and make the most of this unique experience while exploring this wonderful seaside city.
This video was made in partnership with Best Western. We were thrilled to stay at the centrally located Best Western Plus Carlton Plaza Hotel, which provided the perfect home base for our British holiday in Victoria. Book your stay: www.bestwestern.com/en_US/boo...

While born in England, I grew up in BC so I have been to Victoria several times. And loved it! I live in the Yukon Territory now, and here at the end of April there is still lots of snow around, and nothing green at all yet. Seeing all the flowers there in March...

When I was last there, we had tea at a tea shop within walking distance of downtown and the harbor. It reminded me quite a bit of the small market town tea shops you'd find in the UK. Less of a high or cream tea experience, but a cozy spot for a nice cup and a few treats. Scones of course, but also things like Victoria sponge, fruit cake, and sausage rolls. Much cheaper than a fancy tea.

Great vid guys bought back lots of memories fron the 80s.
Wifes cousin lives 10 minutes from Victoria.
She's a patron of the gardens.
We hired a boat and took a trip around the locals Islands .
The one thing I unfortunately missed out on was the early morning seaplane mail flights out of Vancouver.
You could book a seat and it went up to Kamloops etc.
Ended up after taking the ferry to Seattle driving in a circle up to Lake louis stayed over night i the chatau hotel.
Cost a fortune but what a view up to the glacier.
Ended up passing Kamloops and ferry back to Victoria.
    A truely fabulous holiday .
    Thanks guys
    Lee & Christine

You should do it again in the summer - or shortly after school goes back after the summer, when the weather is warm and the streets are still looking good. Victoria is known for its hanging baskets, they spend a lot of time and money on them and they are pretty spectacular.
If you had kept going through Fan Tan Alley, you would have emerged on Lower Johnson St, which was - with China Town - the original part of the city, the buildings along there are lovely, once mostly brothels and hotels for the Gold Rush, they are now the trendy shopping area for Victoria. Also around that part of town are a couple of market squares that usually have one sort of event on on summer weekends.
Also, on Government St, not far from where you are is the Rogers chocolate store, it has all its original fittings and fixtures - wooden cabinetry, stained glass, etc. they used to ship chocolates to the UK for the queen

Hi. That brought back some great memories. I’ve been to Victoria several times. Most times I used the ferry from Vancouver. That is a very scenic ferry ride, in and out of the Islands of the gulf. Taking the very colourful little boats to get around the harbour was very satisfying. At night the provincial office is so pretty. One time I was there a branch of M&S was open, unfortunately the branch has closed now, shame. I think Vctoria is my favourite Canadian city.
Every time I get to Victoria our tour always includes the beoutiful Butchart Gardens. One year I went in February, there wasn’t much snow but when we got inland on our ways to Calgary it was much worse. Banff & Jasper was really deep snow. On Lake Louise it was completely frozen and I walked over the whole lake. The big chunks of ice they used to mah=ke an ice castle had the topaz tint to them.

Hi guys! Great video! I lived just outside of Victoria from 2001 to 2007 - I absolutely loved it! Growing up on the Canadian prairies where the winters are horrendous, Victoria was a wonderful escape from that. The whole of Vancouver Island is stunning! Miss it a lot. Thanks for bringing back great memories. Places to see in Victoria are: Craigdarroch Castle, Beacon Hill Park, Royal BC Museum (it has an Imax theatre), whale watching tours, and so much more.

That video brings back good memories of a trip I did with a good friend in the 1990s when we lived in Portland. We did the same ferry trip from Port Angeles, WA, to Victoria. We stayed at the Empress and also visited Butchart Gardens and generally enjoyed the city a lot. It was also in the springtime and we were lucky that it didn't rain much at all. I'd love to go back for another visit.

Victoria, and the whole of Vancouver Island, used to be relaxing, slow-paced holiday destinations. Butchard Gardens (pronounced bw-shard), the Forestry Museum near Ladysmith, Tofino/Ucluelet/Long Beach, and Parksville were all great getaways. Today, Victoria is rather kitsch, and effectively an English theme park for US tourists. I suggest you stray no further south than Chemainus for a real Vancouver Island experience. For laid-back Lotus Land, try the Gulf Islands. 🇨🇦

Hello Cara and Jeremy. I did go to Vancouver, but not to Victoria when I came to that area years ago. It was obviously my loss, but three months to tour North America did not leave time to go everywhere, so I make do watching videos like this and Endless Adventure. This was really fascinating. The gardens were like a place we go on holiday in Cornwall, out of season too, when the dogs can go on the beach.

    • @TheMagicGeekdom

3 months in North America is both a long time to see a lot, and not enough time to see everything. I lived 300 miles away for much of my life and only visited Victoria for the first time, but it's a wonderful city and I highly recommend visiting if you find yourself in North America again.

You peeps might enjoy looking into, like, half a dozen Ontario towns and cities with UK-related history and traditional Victorian looking main streets, and then Toronto as a centrepiece.. as a Brit, the feeling I got the first night of my first time in Toronto of “Why do I feel like I’m in London but in North America?!”, and the stereotypical Victorian downtowns in smaller cities like Guelph (and nearby tourist spot, Elora Mills, which is strikingly similar to somewhere in the Lake District or Scotland!) is almost eerie, in a nice way, and it all helps connect the dots with things like the 1812 War etc.. super interesting for Anglophiles, I promise!

    • @TheAmishGamer
      @TheAmishGamer Před měsícem

Toronto even has neighbourhood fish and chip places, not like “Hey look, we’re British!”, just because the history is so intertwined that having a “local chippy” is, and always has been, a thing! My favourites so far have been Seawitch and Hooky’s but there are dozens, even lowkey ones in blue collar neighbourhoods that look EXACTLY like a typical UK council-estate chippy!
