  • We are spending the next 24 hours, trying British fast food we've never tried before, from chains like Pret a Manger that we've never been to, to trying items viewers have suggested at Greggs, to finding unusual items we don't see in the US at chains like McDonald's and Taco Bell.

      For the best fish n chips go to Whitby north Yorkshire. For the best curry experience go to Bradford or Oldham. For the best Chinese food go to Manchester Chinatown because it's cheaper and better than London. Go to Edinburgh or Glasgow for haggis, neeps and potato, or deep fried pizza, haggis or chocolate bars, just inform your cardiologist first. 😅. Go to Cardiff or Swansea or Pembrokeshire in Wales for the famous " crawl" a lamb stew, especially good in autumn or winter and bara birth cake or Welsh cakes with tea.
      Finally an Ulster fry for breakfast in northern Ireland. Soda bread, white pudding and a pint of Guinness at 8am 😮. Great stuff😂. Too much to do but this list is a small start to seeking good UK 4 nation's foods perhaps 🎉🎉🎉

    The problem with Pret nowadays it that the prices are outrageous, completely ridiculous. Those almond croissants you show on the counter used to be £1.50 three years ago, and suddenly rocketed to £1.65 pre-covid. Now, as you see, they are £2.50 - and, I think, smaller than they used to be. Stick with Greggs, or M&S take-away.

    Top tip - Chicken Selects are £4.09 for 3 (on their own). Instead, order two of the crispy version of the wrap of the day, with no salad, sauce or wrap. They’re made with two chicken selects each. This way, you end up with 4 chicken selects for £3.98, instead of 3 for £4.09.

      Back in the 1960s I was paid 2/6d per wedding to sing in the church choir. During the summer it was typically 3 weddings every saturday. So I'd earn about 7/6d. I'd usually treat myself to some fish and chips out of my earning but around 1965 a chinese takeaway opened directly opposite the church. So I'd usually spend a few bob in there every week. I was hooked.
      In about 1968 I rode my push bike into London to visit my sister. Unfortunately she was out but one of her neighbours took pitty on me and took me in to wait for her to return home. This neighbour then took us down to a KFC and treated me to some KFC, fries and rumbaba. I was blown away as it was so different to anything I'd ever had before. I eventually had to give up on my sister so rode home without seeing her but it was such a memorable day that I'll never forget my first KFC.
      The 60s was a time of many changes. Fast food was just one of them.

      @@Thurgosh_OG this is misleading. People just read an article and then jumped on it. A single group of scientists, in Belgium, so a big thing to remember is that science is about continually testing. They found that some brands of green cutlery are more likely to have FPAs than plastic, yet they don’t state the brands they tested, which is a basic in testing to show what is the standard. Already you can see by that that plastics do have them, it’s a company choice, again, we don’t know which of these brands they used to study. So a plastic one with FPAs will never break down at all, will just stay as it is, product and the acids, Paper ones, the product will break down and the acids will remain. Both are providing the same, the plastic is just leaving a physical item behind as well. The study was flawed and we have no reason to believe that a plastic company wasn’t behind that study that proved nothing but that plastics was worse and that the standard person won’t understand a medical study and the requirements for an accurate one.

    We certainly do have refried beans in the UK. It was quite a few years ago we went to a Mexican style chain restaurant and my wife ordered refried beans (we both like them). The waitress said something like "Are you sure, they have a specific taste?" We thought it was weird to question a customer's order in such a way.

    Hi Jeremy & Cara. Yes, we too in the UK like our food "on the go", as it were, but the choice here is to my mind, just as varied as in the US. Since Morgan (Spurlock) did that film "Supersize Me" all those years ago, glad to say that choice you have now is wider and more varied, if still calorific!! Aside from Micky D's, we now have Wendy's, Taco Belle, Dunkin' Donuts and all our other homegrown offerings as well, such as the ones you mention, and M&S do some pretty good turkey sandwiches at Xmas time. Had one only yesterday, managed to spill cranberry sauce all over my jacket, still great though!! Keep up the good work, from a new subscriber (only today, a few minutes ago, in fact. Happy Xmas. Greggs and others are pretty naughty with their sarnies... They put all the filling to the front, so it looks rammed, and your like "phwoooaaaarrrrrr", but, when you open it up, you discover "the void" at the back of the roll/baguette, and then when you push it all back into the bread... It's just ends up a normal sarnie! :D lol

    Gregg's is a takeaway bakery famous for it's fabulous Sausage Rolls. I've never been in a Pret a Manger or a Taco Bell, and don't intend to. The healthiest McDonald's Burger I've ever had was in Australia - the McOz burger with so much more salad and a thick slice of beetroot. A double Wimpy and chips, washed down with English Breakfast tea with milk, was something I'd have on a Saturday in my local town centre. That would be in the late 70's when I was still at school. Wimpy burgers were better than Macca's back then, but now I hear they're so so nice. My former local Wimpy restaurant is now a Burger King.

    Had they run out of the breakfast stuff behind the counter? That’s quite upsetting! Nothing beats their bacon and sausage baguettes!! Also - next time you’re near London or Surrey, you have to try Wenzels bakery… think of it as Greggs but for people who know how to wear shoes.

  • @CagedPaps
    @CagedPaps Před 7 měsíci

    Greggs breakfast is only sold in the morning, similar to McDonald's (though I appreciate most of the world has McDonald's with 24 hour breakfast). But all you're really getting is bacon and sausages for rolls, you can get a baguette and omelette too, but that's the gist. That apple Danish is a regional offering too, looking it up it's on South East, West and Scotland that get it.
