Their sound blew me away. It was alien 👽 I couldn’t be sure all the sounds were actually coming from just their guitars (and effects) and not synths or post production There’s great tutorials by snake on here too.
Such a cool guy and one of the better metal guitarists and very underrated. Great concert back in the day. Would be awesome to see the og lineup back together.
Wow, what a fantastic in depth interview, just met Scotti at a soundcheck meet n greet at Keswick Theatre in North Philly...He was so well grounded and pleasant to talk to for the short minute or two that I had.....was front row at the gig that night and got to stand 5 ft away while he played all the classic solos from the 1st and 2nd albums....one of the best nights of my life...Thanks Scotti, YOU FUCKING ROCK !!!
Great interview. Big Scotti fan here from the 80’s, he’s such a tasteful player in the vein of Lynch and DeMartini. He came across as a really nice guy.
Scotti has a great tone and has awesome note choice on his solo. His partnership with snake is legendary, and they played some of my favorite tunes in my teenage years. It's great to get to know more about him. Cool guy.
I'm 56 years old and Scotties early years are just like mine. Dyslexia and left school in the 10ths grade nobody getting what was wrong with you. My father got me my first pawnshop guitar for Christmas. It was a Kay SG and to this day SGs are my favorite go to. Never made it as a guitar player but definitely enjoyed the 80s concerts and Skid row. Keep rockin
His dyslexia story is so interesting. I have dyslexia and discalculia. And when I was at a school they stamped me as basically a “retard” who needed special education. My mom was like: “he’s verbally far advanced for his age. He’s a wizard when it comes to fixing bikes and after a summer in Austria he also speaks German, that doesn’t sound like a mentally under developed kid”. So they pulled me from that school and registers me to a Jenaplan (sort of Montisori) school. And my teacher there was actually trained as one of the few in the late 70s for dyslexia and discalculia. And she was like: “Ray, isn’t under developed. If anything, he’s very bright. But he can’t absorb the syllabus because of both dyslexia and discalculia! We need to remedial teach him.” She spend 30 minutes before school every morning and 30 minutes during the afternoon 1.5 hour break to remedial teach me and a girl. In her own time! And she helped me and the girl so incredibly much. And if anything she got me to like performing. Because of my low self esteem (I truly believed I was dumb). I started to become very withdrawn and also stopped to speak to strangers. And she got me on stage to do a little play thing. And I loved it. I owe her so much! She was hated by all kids, because she was strict and nothing went under her radar. But I always protected Anne (that was her name). And years later I saw her again and I hugged her and thanked her for being the most amazing teacher I’ve ever had, who improved my life beyond a shadow of a doubt.“ she cried and kissed me on my cheek. Suck a cool moment. And then I realized I was then the same age as when she was when she gave me remedial teaching.
I met Dave and Scotti and probably 1992 at a radio station in Columbus Georgia. I had a college internship there...I believe they stopped by to promote a show and/or their second album. I don't think there was any reception as we didn't know they were coming. They were very cool guys.
Great interview man ! I grew up in Cold Spring and remember Scotti he was a little older but watched him play in a cover band named Pegasus at a village fair . It’s cool that he made the big time
That's awesome. I grew up in Somers NY and Scotti is my hometown hero even though he grew up 40 minutes away from us. I've met him several times and he has always been super kind to me.
When I was just a teenager I borrowed some guns and roses and skid row cassettes.. skid row was more pleasing to the ear with bachs voice and a couple of great guitar works from Dave and Scotti. Next up I bought the slave to the grind tape and read it from page to page. I’m a drummer 👍
One of my hero’s right here. A guy I actually heard in radio. Bought the album and got to see live with no let down whatsoever (even though they were the opener ). Great interview. What an amazing soul he is. Authentic guy. So honest about his foibles. Glad he survived. Hope i can meet him someday. Come to Canada man. We’re so close !
This is interesting! I went to a school where you went from kindergarten through senior year under one roof. I'll check that off. Next comes the 13 year old kid to guitar lessons, check. The guitar teacher's name? Ken, or "Kenny", check. Nylon string guitar, check. First really good electric guitar was a Telecaster, check again! There are quite a few more "SAME HERE" events that are all but identical, including opening for STYX rather than KISS! This interview very telling and REALLY similar to my story including alcohol and drugs. I'm sober a long time, Godsend! Very cool interview, thanks so much! I've always admired Skid Row!
What an awesome interview! I love Scotti Hill as a guitar player and never really seen many interviews with him, so thank you for this. Also, you ask really interesting and intelligent questions and its great the guest respond. Love it. Keep up the great work!
So wonderful listening to Scotti just chat... a huge influence on me throughout my life, especially as I was that outcast teen growing up in the late 80's and learning to play guitar. I think things would have taken a very different turn had it not been for the likes of Scotti and Skid Row. Thank you!!
I can so identify with him about how back in the day we would go see a band, work your way to the front of the crowd just to stand there watching the guy's fingers on the guitar. It's seriously was like getting a guitar lesson. And when you left the club at 3 in the morning, you would race home just to pick up your guitar and see what you learned. And for me too, Mark Hitt was a big influence.
Love your interview with him, questions are very well thought and respectful. I don't listen to wide range of songs, the only band that i keep listen to its whole album is skid row, for 2 decades. Never sick of it. And look up to both Scotti and Dave. I followed Scotti Hill on IG and glad to know that he keep cycling around. Thanks for airing this interview which let me know about the dark side he had gone thru.
Scotti has great stage presence. Loved it when he put his beer in his back pocket. Skid Row’s new singer has breathed new life in the band. The new album is pretty darn good.
Great interview. Scottie is a killer guitar player. I'm 60 and I worked for 1.65 minimum wage I think it was in like 1977. Then I got a job at a gas station where you checked the oil and water and washed the windows, etc, but I made like 5 bucks an hour which was good money for a senior in high school at the time. 😂 It's funny and interesting how things work out. Great interview. Thanks man. ❤️🤘❤️🤘
Hey Scott. I love all your skid row riffs. Just genius. Quicksand Jesus is without a doubt the best. Can you find the time to give me just one guitar lesson. I’ve been playing for 12 years and suck. Not sure why.
I was diagnosed with dyslexia in the last year of school. Talk about slipped through the cracks! It’s no secret I flunked school. So I went and studied as a mature aged study and got a diploma.
Great interview! Thanks. Scotti and Dave .. guys who can shred... But excell cause they play to and for the song. They have a coolness and swagger that screams rock and roll beyond any technical talent. It's their band... Their love for their band and songs is manifest in that neither is "the lead" guy!
Subscribed also! I would have had one question for Scotti... where is that blue double cut away LP style guitar he played way back when. I loved that guitar!
Great interview!!! Was fortunate to meet him in 1990….he was very down to earth then…great to hear he is well & has preserved despite challenges throughout the years. Appreciate your honest, poignant questions along with Scotty’s honest answer’s & reflections.
I'd really like to know what went down with Solinger that they had to fire him the way it went down, after all the years he spent with them. 15 years. Longer than any singer
Poor guys . They can’t even muster “Sebastian Bach” . When will they ever get it? Their egos are as big as Bach’s. The interview is good but useless to talk about SKID ROW WITHOUT MENTIONING THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM!!!
A keep yr comments nice reminder befor ya comment.. as if someone that wants to leave a harsh message now wont do it bc they tapped a comment guidelines pop-up, im sick of seeing them n having to tap on it to oeave my comment.... what happened to FREE SPEACH? If youtubers feel the need to have to have a pop-up guidelines message on your youtube channel id just suggest just dont have a comment section on yr page if you get so offended by comments, and or freedom of speach... lol ok that said bc i thinks its b.s. anyways... dang it, id say that in the regular way most Americans say it but i dont want to offend anyone, O man, well crap!! now ive forgotten what good i was gonna say about this channel or this interview.
Got picked on at school, Boy Scouts, the neighborhood and at home by my stepdad! But I finally found my calling which was those strings!! I got my first junkie guitar at age 14! Then got a really good Ibanez RG550 ! Still playing today except I play 7 string guitars instead of 6…
Scotti Hill & Snake Sabo are a lethal duo on guitars!!
It was these 2 (scotti and dave) and cc Deville that got me into guitar. Slave to grind best guitar tones ever.
Seems like such a cool dude. Always loved his guitar sound.
Their sound blew me away. It was alien 👽 I couldn’t be sure all the sounds were actually coming from just their guitars (and effects) and not synths or post production There’s great tutorials by snake on here too.
what a lot of respect Scotti Hill deserves, wow, this guy is awesome in every sense of the word, I really admire him.

I was always a fan cause we have the same last name, then when I became a guitarist, I appreciated his style.
Scotti & Snake are definitely underrated as guitarists. Their playing was very unique. Compliment each other so well.
Scotti and snake very underrated in my book and are top of the stack in my book
Scottie you are an awsome player! your solo on i remember you will endure forever! is so good! melodic, anger, emotive! is pure fire! thanks for ever!
Yes, I agree @versus5150 - thanks for listening 💥 🎶 🎸 !
Great interview, Scotti is an amazing guitarist! This dude wrote a couple of the most iconic guitar solos of the late 80's
Couldn't agree more!
Awesome episode! Scotti and Skid Row still rules!
I always loved how crazed Scotti looked onstage. I saw Skid Row live in 2003. (Also saw Sebastian solo the same year.)
Right on @Dizzy1980, thanks for listening! 🎸💥🙌🏻
as a life long Skid Row fan this is one of the best interviews Ive heard. Scotti is solid human being

He said Mayberry, I'm at hollering distance from there

Craig, I grew up in Dobbs Ferry. You sound like a local guy that grew up in Westchester. Which town were you in?
Close... I'm from The Bronx, Tom
Quick Sebastian, dial them up to see if you can record the screams and get yourself some songwriting credits...
