Marko has just finished an acoustic tour in Latin America with another vocalist you like a lot, Anneke van Giersbergen. In addition to solo sets by each of them, they have also performed songs together, cover versions of songs by different well-known artists (judging by the numerous live-clips you find of them on youtube). The following two songs might be of special interest to you, since one of them is a song by The Gathering and the other one by Nightwish (both performed by Anneke, Marko and an additional guitarist):

Tarja and Marko, Phantom of the Opera… This conjures up so many memories for me. Both of them were a huge reason why I was drawn to metal in the first place🖤

And I have succeeded in my goal, I have seen both of them live and I can tell you they are just as good as people say, maybe better😁

This was in a festival. Marko actually performed his own set pefore Tarja. This particular performance was in the between of Tarja's set.
They also did this same thing in Savonlinna, Finland a month later. (I got to see that one live)
The duet with Tarja and Marko you saw earlier was in 2017. It has just been 18 years since they sang the Phantom of the Opera together.
Also in my opinion the Numb cover that Tarja did was awesome but I understand why you think it might not work.
Her Unforgiven cover of Metallica is also great, that might suit you better.

But it's awesome to see and hear Tarja and Marko together again, now we just need to have Tuomas up there on the stage with them, and everything will be alright with the world. And you're absolutely right, even though I think Floor joining Nightwish is the best thing that could have happened to the band, I still love Tarja, and I have been a Nightwish fan since her days. I also happen to like Anette, and I think she does a marvelous job on Imaginaerum and Dark Passion Play. However, Floor is here and now, and therefor the one I tend to focus on when listening to Nightwish nowadays.
Hi wolf. There is also this christmas tour in Finland called Raskasta Joulua what means heavy christmas where all greatest voices of Finland get together every year.
Exsample of past years Performers on that tour.
2016 they went cracy and put these singers in same consert.
Tarja Turunen, Floor Jansen, Marko Hietala, Jarkko Ahola, Finnish Idols winner Ari Koivunen and Antti Railio.
2022 there was names like Nightwish Marko hietala, battle beast Noora Louhimo and sonata arctica Tony kakko and list goes on.
So it’s every christmas ear candy.
2023 Raskasta Joulua ( heavy christmas ) singers not released yet.

I don’t want to upset anyone, but in my opinion this performance was a sign that sometimes you have to let go of the past. Sorry for that. I could’t enjoy it. And it was not only the fancam. But when they would do a studio album, as you said, to show how the people they are nowadays are ceating something new on what both of them had gone through, I surely would listen to this. Perhaps this has to do with my own age. I would hate to repeat something I did in my earlier years and see: well it isn’t any longer how it used to be.

Singing wise, I think that was a better version.
