@@Suzanne4415 Uremia is incredibly dangerous. It happens when the kidneys shut down and can't filter blood anymore, leading to waste, or essentially urine buildup in the blood. As the waste has no other way to escape, it will escape through the skin, so a severely uremic person smells or tastes like, well, urine. At that point, death by organ poisoning is not far behind.

Keep it at your desk. And don’t lick anything. If you cough, Use your elbow.

I worked for an old doc who treated patients regularly without gloves. He often had poop under his nails. 😰 but he was a good doctor and relieved many of their disease. He wasn't stingy with pain or anxiety medication, and most, if not all respected him for it and kept to their medication schedules. My doctor feels my neck then immediately uses hand sanitizer. I think it should be opposite, he uses it before the exam - I don't think it's necessary at all. I would rather have him use gloves to examine me than to ostentatiously sanitize AFTER he touches me. It feels rude.

He pooped ?? Oh that's so great !!! He could not poop for days. (I worked a lot for veterinarians) Any animal not pooping for days is BAD..vary bad: obstruction, megacolon etc. Also, if they poop in the exam room: do a fecal floatation test (parasite ova?) Same applies to ANY animal not able to pee, that is even a worse emergency (blockage/stones?) Please pay attention to your pets peeing+pooping habits, this is what the vet will ask about a lot ! Bring a sample too ! last but not least: eating and keeping food down or vomiting ? VERY common topics of discussion :-)

Just beware examination gloves from a box on the wall. They can be bug covered from all the previous ppl pulling out their gloves (and pushing back in the extra ones they grabbed by accident.) There are times when a well washed hand can be safer than gloves for the person touched.

We were awful, but didn't think anything of it at the time. 🤷🏼😏👩🏼‍⚕️

He told me he could wear gloves or not but it would hurt more if he wore gloves, and I had to choose. It's one of my earliest memories. I know he had no bad intent but being forced to chose how badly he hurt me really fucked me up. 30+ years later, and I'm still not okay.

I have one doctor who almost always works without gloves and it's very unnerving sometimes. I had an IV team nurse trying to reestablish a line after the floor nurse blew my vein pushing phernergan as a bolus into a very ssmall cath in back of my hand - 0/10 would not recommend as it left the entire area black for 2 weeks and almost impossible to make a fist. IV nurse couldn't get it after something like 20 attempts and called someone else who was an older guy who just came in, no gloves, and got it first try. He said that he knew the risks but found it easier to feel the veins without a glove, especially for a tough stick, because veins can be so delicate and finicky and he found gloves make him question if it's the gloves or the vein he's feeling.
