Formula racing: A female driver chases the dream | DW Documentary

  • Motorsports are one of the last male domains - a checkered ceiling 18-year-old Sophia Flörsch is out to break. Her dream is to become Formula 1 world champion. And she won't let her crash in a Formula 3 race in Macau slow her down.
Sophia Flörsch was just four years old the first time she got behind the wheel of a go-cart. She was nine when she heard for the first time that girls couldn't hold their own with the guys in motorsports - a bias that she's since disproven on the track. Women, she says, can do anything, whether climb Mount Everest or become German chancellor - or Formula 1 world champion. In November, 2018, in a Formula 3 race in Macau, she hit a wall at 270 km/h. She was on the operating table for 11 hours and in rehab for weeks. Even so, she's determined to carry on. In spring, 2019, she returned to the track. A report by Janine Berger and Theresa Dahlhoff.

If it was plain level for her, I would only regard her as a favorite driver for style of driving and personality out of the race, which i happen to like as well. Get out of your mama's basement and don't be the cliché loser that blames women for your problems. I've follow her for years and she's earn all she has. I cheer her for that.

Meritocracy doesn't exist. She is where she is, because she comes from the right family and has the connections. She has access to enough wealth and resources to train to be a racer. Her gender is secondary.

@@ShammarPrincess think before you speak divisional rhetoric.
You have to start early. These men dont just walk into a F1 contract you know, and not every boy who starts young becomes a race driver. However there are a few women who have been good enough to become pros.
It's a result business and getting bad driver can kill a teams season and cost them millions. There are loads of f1 drivers who failed to be good enough and are not in F1 anymore. It's just a skill to be able to even keep the heat in the carbon brake discs, heat too low and you're not stopping unless you hit something. Not many can do that, or even push these cars and keep them on their limit lap after lap. I'd be terrified approaching a hairpin 180 plus miles an hour wondering if my brakes are hot enough to stop me or if the grip on my tyres is still there.
F1 cars are not like your Honda, blip the gas too early in an f1 car and you spin. It's a knife edge of balance, skill and balls of steel.
How many 6 year old girls want to go karting in the rain travelling up and down the country cause I don't see many. If any. Or want to move to the UK at 18 (or younger) as most boys do, like Senna and 100s of other drivers have done and will continue to do. Senna give up his comfortable life in Brazil to live in a caravan in the UK so he could race karts. You don't earn money from karting. If you're good you will get noticed. Like he did, but even so Senna didn't walk into the best team, no the worst team, yet he as able to perform miracles with that car due to him being a god behind the racing wheel.
Oh, look up who owns and runs Williams Racing. Frank Williams retired and his daughter runs the F1 team now, I dare say Frank would of left it to his child no matter their gender. There wasn't outrage over that either.
There is ABSOLUTELY nothing stopping women from being race drivers. It takes risk, dedication, sacrifice, skill, the ability to have no fear whatsoever and a fair disposable income as it's normally the parents who pay, but it also helps if your family own a garage and have experience in mechanics and maybe racing themselves, that's why you end up with the sons of famous drivers become pros.
You should look up cookie and cars on here, Louise Cook, a pro rally driver and she is extremely good. I bet you've never even heard of her. Just giving it the gender outrage nonsense is my guess.
Or I guess you could just force women into racing against their will if you like. Or was you wanting special treatment cause..... feminism, if you shoe horn people into cars they can't handle then you're asking for trouble. Try karting for 30 mins around a track yourself in the cold windy rain and see how much you enjoy your arms aching and feeling like an ice cube. Once you know how that feels I'd say times it by 100. Just the g-force alone in an f1 car is physically exhausting. Especially on your neck.
I also know of another male dominate career, slaughterhouse work, do you find that just as disgusting that it's dominated by men?
      I bet not....

Auto racing of any form is a sport that women can compete and not only compete but win against men. It is not a sport like sprinting 100 where the top men would win and dominate the top women because of strength, size and testosterone advantages so in that sport and many other sports we have to separate the sexes in competitions. Strength, size and testosterone isn't a factor for auto racing and size can actually be a disadvantage in auto racing bringing too much weight in the car slowing you down. Alot of male drivers and alot of the top male drivers are 5'7" or 170 cm or shorter and thin on body size. Hell in dirt track 410 sprint car racing a 4'6" man competes and usually races well and wins from time to time, Rico Abreu. So auto racing is a sport women can compete against men and win against men and have won against men, especially currently in Hot Rod racing, in the NHRA with Brittany Force leading the points in Top Fuel, Erica Enders leading the points in Pro Stocks, and Angelle Sampey leading the points in Pro Stock Motorcycles. I have seen women win in sprint car racing with Brie Hershey winning multiple times in the 358 division and a few decades ago Erin Crocker win in the 410 sprint car division against the World of Outlaws beating the best of the best sprint car drivers, including the legendary Steve Kinser. Once women increase their numbers in auto racing winning will rapidly increase in all forms of auto racing for women.

Ok, first you have to be rich. If you want to make it to f3 you have to go through the other stages of motorsport (karting then f4). In order to get a seat in f4 you must prove yourself in karting first and then bring your money to f4 then hopefully if ur good and u win a championship you might be asked to join a f3 team ( assuming you still have financial backing). Also I don’t know how old you are but this has to be done fairly young. Hope this helps

Not allowed to dri've on the streets but competes in Formula. One of those aspiring drivers looking to make it to 40 points without a drivers license

sofia sera campeã mundial de formula 1 o dia que os outros pilotos ficarem em casa . Melhor ir se especializar em cuidar da casa dos filhos e ser uma boa esposa que terá mais sorte

She is the right height but looks too heavy to be a racing driver at this level especially for a 17 year old girl.
Her crash in Macou probably did her more promotion for her than ner driving ability.

Its really worrying how certain far left ideologues celebrate women engaging in what is considered male behavior.
Being a race driver, a ceo, an athlete .. Its like there is no room for women to be women anymore. At least in action because talk has been always cheap.
