A lot of the faster and more experienced drivers need to understand it ain't a race. There are regular people and some that have never driven here before and to my knowledge this Nurburgring let's anyone drive as long as you own a vehicle and license while following the basic rules, correct me if I'm mistaken.

    • @danieljakobsen1289
      @danieljakobsen1289 Před 2 lety +58

You're right, but if you're following the rules, you'd rarely get any accidents or dangerous situations.
I guess when you're paying to go to Nürburgring for a drive, then you're trying to get as much action as you can, especially in front of the cameras. Which can lead to bad decisions.
But tbf we're all humans and everyone makes mistakes sometimes.

As a novice I’d say always be aware and stay right. Do not take a racing line.
There are too many impatient, dangerous, intolerant drivers pushing hard for a time not accepting there are rules on the Nurburgring and on a tourist day you are all entitled to be there.
Just stay right and stay out of trouble and let the nutcases get on with it guys.

    • @320iSTWEdition

The problem is.... if one nutcase overtakes you and clashes with another nutcase in front of you, you could find yourself right in the thick of a huge crash with no way out...... So even if you try your hardest to avoid a dangerous situation it is not fully up to you to do so...... so i'd say to you stay away for your own safety.

I really get why this year there were some bad accidents and long track closures. Some drivers are way too close to the limit to allow for a safety margin that also considers the different levels of experience, different levels of track readiness of the cars and the general vibe of Touristenfahrten. Especially if you see how many need to overtake on the right into Galgenkopf. It's the last corner, it's not a race. -_-

Nether the less the German highway code applies during Touristenfahrten so you are meant to drive in safe, respectfull way so you won't endanger other drivers. This also means no overtaking on the right side, no tailgaiting, etc. And if you want to Do same hotlaps go to a trackday instead of misusing Touristenfahrten for it. They will always look for a way not to pay so always best to take out independent insurance for that purpose. This is exactly what keeps me from going there and do my first ever lap amongst idiotic machos who think they are above you because "they've done already X laps" so you better get out of the way. I've been sim-driving the ring since I was little on Gran Turismo 4 up to a friend's beefy VR simulator set and it's been my dream to do a real lap once there, but thinking about doing it is just pure stress and no fun because apparently many people are driving against eachother, not with others.

It's not always that bad. Obviously this is a compilation of aggressive encounters, but in general you can avoid all of that by driving defensively, meaning letting the really speedy guys pass. Just hit the right blinker, let of the throttle for a moment, let them pass and get back into it. 😄 I've always been more afraid of ending up in the gravel or in a wall than hitting another car.

Soulhenge, it was always my dream and I eventually did it a few years ago.
As a novice, just be aware and stay right. Don’t take the racing line or go for a ‘time’ which would see you wandering left and right all over the place and getting in the way of the nutcases. You can still go pretty quickly and have fun but you can relax a bit and enjoy the experience too.
I did it in an airport rental Golf diesel which I picked up at Frankfurt Hahn. Plenty of torque and quite adequate for a one-off. Managed to get just one overtake but it was past an A8 Audi and it was on the Karussell!! So hey, the pros in their track prepared expensive cars might scoff at that, but the Tourist days at the ring are for living your dreams and open to everyone.
Go and enjoy my friend, start easy, be aware, stay right, build your speed gradually, and at the end you’ll have your tale and memories that last forever 😍👍👍

Go early during week days. School holiday season in Germany is even better, there’s less people. These machos are in some camping putting up with their wife’s and kids.
When you plan it make sure you do two days of ring then hit Spa in Belgium, it’s fairly close and two type of tracks. Spa being more forgiven if you spin out.

Having to pay for every yard of every lap makes people incredibly intolerant of others' behaviour. "How DARE you spoil my fast lap! I'll get you for that!"
At least the traffic's only going in one direction, so they're not likely to smash into oncoming vehicles (as they do when driving like idiots on open public roads).
But instead of it being a fun outing with the car you love, the Nürburgring experience becomes mile after mile of angry tit-for-tat swerves and blocks against some guy who's just as desperate as you are to prove he's faster and more skilled and more macho and -
And will also never get a job alongside Misha and Robert because he's a pillock.
I think some peeps genuinely would be better off driving a simulator. Getting to be a real racing driver takes years of hard work and dedication; anyone with a licence can buy a lap on the Ring - that's the whole fun of it - but nothing can buy a professional driver's temperament.

My guess is it has something to do with locals driving german cars that view tourists or rental drivers as "lesser" and need to get out of their way. Not sure what about bmw's attracts young guys with more egos than brains, we even get that over here in the states. See some e36 flying up in the lane next to you? get ready to get cut off. @@johnsullivan937 I hear you. My sentiments exactly. I'm stateside now too. I did a big round trip to buy a silly car and take it home. As soon as the M-Boys saw my toy they started driving like total morons! I too was a testosterone induced idiot. But, when you see what happens when it all goes wrong, you grow up, fast. I enjoyed your comment and glad to see I'm not alone in this thinking. Safe journeys......

Incredible how ignorant so many slower drivers are of track protocol.

When I saw that last lot going 3 wide around the corner, it made me think of Sydney morning get to work traffic

Some of the worst driving I have seen on the Nordschleife; a lot of idiots here who do not have the technical skills, to drive safely & fast, & are completely out of their league on this track😩

Sometimes you're even idiot on the public road, humans are perfect drivers, everyone makes mistakes on the road.

Disappointing to see such people, not willing to accept that this is not a racetrack and no one owes the faster vehicle anything.
I especially find it problematic to let bikers and cars on track at the same time.

I mean. It IS a race track. Just not a day for racing
