Abandoned Shell Gas Station Found In A Small California Oil Field Town

- I drove my Dodge truck up through an active oil field in California and discovered a old abandoned Shell gas station property nearby. This old gas station fueled up vintage cars and trucks from the 1940s 50s and 60s. I really enjoy discovering road side Treasures like this old gas station.  Inside the station, I noticed an old air compressor, as well as some old tires left behind from the past. Outside of Station, hidden in the trees partially was an old shell, neon gas station sign from 1940.

The Shell sign seems to be in very good shape considering that this gas station has been abandoned for quite awhile. I think it would be a very nice addition to Rob's collection. 😊😊

An interesting twist on the direction of todays video Rob, going down oil pump road. That is amazing that the Shell sign survived in such good shape for so long. Cool station! I agree with you. We cannot afford to get rid of oil. It's our life line to thousands of products. I'm all for making it clean as possible. I think has come a long way for the good.
Yes well said! I spoke to a couple of oil field workers there and they told me that they are practically being forced by regulatory agencies restricting production and exploration that workload is very minimal these days. Many employees have been laid off.
Yes I agree we have come a long way for the good as far as safe practices in producing and handling oil.

I like that tin ceiling you have with your sign collection. Also that gas station it's amazing is not graffiti up. I caught a glimpse of the old service station pumps lights. You know the lights were they would light up the gas pump Islands. There is so much in that old gas station that could be salvaged sold collected. I find it interesting that there's oil derricks pumps I should say right next to the road and there's a busier wrote on the other side of them. Reminds me of that part of Kansas that wasn't worth anyting 30 years or better ago until they found oil. That despicable City eldorado springs Kansas and yes I said that. Is in the center of it more last and that's where I learned that there were different size oil pump and Riggs. I bought a car from there. I toured an old Chevy dealership. They'd sold out all the cars because the fella had passed on. There were about six of them left down in the basement. One I was wanting to buy but I swore I'd never go back to that town. All that came to mind just from your episode. Those are old gas station when I was a kid but someone was still around and I can remember you're so wooden doors with the little black and white signs for the restrooms on the outside of the building. By the way that drinking fountain look like a repurposed 1940s bedpan. I saw one in the movies. That she'll sign I would agree with the other guy and if you bought it it would be a great item for your collection. A very interesting episode. In addition to being interesting it brought back a lot of memories. More than one that I shared. ⛽⛽⛽
Thank you for such a thoughtful comment. I also noticed that bat wing light and smiled thinking the island was probably nearby. The oil pumps are an interesting site to see and they are located right off the 101 clearly visible. I have looked over that way for many years but never took the time to stop by. I am interested in touring the oil field you mentioned in KS someday. Is the town dangerous ? You have experienced a lot in the past with great stories. I am glad this video brought back some memories.

Was the old inground lift still in there? Seen the air compressor.great find..love those old ones..still left..Ive requed air compressors . vintage ones restored them back to life..and an old Rotary inground ground lift..as well back to working order..from the 1960s

I found an old service station in Florida ..not far from my home..this place was many business since it was a gas station or repairs...I asked the property owner permission since it was going to the bulldozer ..for the old air compressor ..and the old inground lift..I tested the lift with my gas powered compressor..to see if I could get the lift up ,and hold air ..after 35 yrs sitting ..it went up with some wiggle..held up over night..they dug it out for me carefully ..and I got it home pressure washed the casing sandblasted it clean paint and truck bed liner.. installed in my home shop..now back in service..for 50 more yrs ...old school..lifts the test of time..
When I seen that old fuel station closed. There was a lot of private fuel stations at one time around me but have all gone they where every few miles apart . There is 3 main fuel stations now but all owned by big super markets like Tesco. Asda. And Morrisons on a Sunday night like last weekend I was low on fuel and you have job to get fuel on a sunday due to them closing early on Sundays. Few times I have been caught out they seem to close the pumps down not even able to do card payments. It seems the big stores are taking control
I don’t like the large corporate gas stations myself. I try to find smaller independent ones to support out here. Sounds like you very few choices to fuel ⛽️ up at. Many old stations still exist in America 🇺🇸
That paneling would indicate it closed in the 70s.
